I wouldn't be locking myself into any one technique. Try shorter pauses and longer rips on the blades too. In my experience they work both ways and the same can be applied to fishing plastics and hard bodies. Sometimes the lure needs to be worked faster to impart any action on it and make it look as though it's real. Alot of vibrating action or movement in general can induce the re-action bites you want and I think that sometimes going too slow will only make them think twice about whether or not they want to eat your lure. Try Gulp 2" Shrimp in Peppered Prawn and Ecogear Bream Prawn in Olive colour. For lures try Jackall Chubbies, Ecogear SX40's and Daiwa Double Clutches.

From my experience what works in one system won't necessarily work in another. Eg. Ecogear SX40 in colours 351/2 work very well in the Pat and sometimes in the Port but don't even get looked at in West Lakes.

I agree with Brenton, FG is easily the strongest in my experience. Little difficult to tie on light lines but with some practise you'll be fine.In the mean time, the improved albright is very very simple to tie and shouldn't break whilst casting. On light 4lb leader I will run 10 wraps of braid over leader (in direction of leader) then 8 wraps back over the top of the first 10 wraps (in the direction of braid). Their good but having to superglue them onto hooks so your not constantly getting your pants pulled down is a pain I use the HWS jigheads and haven't had to glue any.

Brighton is usually pretty reliable for squid. Add a dodge tide and should make for great squid fishing

Good advice already given, I'd go a minimum of 7' rod for casting lures that light as I'll assume your land based.

Load the rod on the 'back swing' and the time your release. Light braid/leader helps as does a nice slim leader knot. Mostly to do with timing the release and of course how hard you go at it.

For 15-20lb I'd def go Sunline Super PE. Easily the best value braid on the market. A 20lb leader will be plenty for throwing lures around.

Why not put some size 14 or 12 trebles on them?

There are sooo many areas in the Lake that you're allowed to fish, why take the risk and potentially spoil it for everyone.....That Trimmer Pde end of WL always attracts the bogans.

I'd be paying more attention in the rod department than the reel especially since you want to be using lures.Having said that, I do love nice spin reels!

Do you only get fish on the Grubz around the pontoons? If not how do you work them?
