yeah I gotta agree with that, fish don't really care about the smell of smoke. I was fishing the other day with my rod right next to the fire (not enough to burn) and the smoke was going all throughout the line/reel. made no difference to the fish. I'm also a smoker and my friend isn't and I regularly tend to outfish him

Rotare, thanks heaps for the offer mate, much appreciated. My wonderful wife has just presented me with a $100 voucher for BCF so this will def get me back out fishing again. I'll try asking the guys at Anglers choice see if anythings been handed in there. To ease the pain my mate took me out on his boat on Tuesday to the barges and i landed my first ever snapper which went 55cms so i was pretty stoked with that!!!

So about two weeks ago i was having a little fish at the mouth of the onka, as i was walking back towards the footbridge i bumped into an English bloke and his two young boys who had just bought a little starter kit so the boys could have a fish. The bloke asked if i knew how to set the rod up as he had no idea what he was doing. Of course i stopped to give him a hand. After setting up a little running sinker rig and chopping up a few bits of pillie for them i checked out what they had in the starter pack, obviously it was pretty crap so i got my tackle box out and donated a few swivels, hooks and sinkers to them to get them started. They were very happy and i hope the fella will keep taking his boys fishing and continue learning how to enjoy our sport. I believe fishing is a great way to teach the kids how to appreciate the beautiful place we are fortunate to live.Unfortunately..... in all the good deed doing i have left my whole tackle box there with them when i walked off. Completely my own fault which makes it just a little bit worse!! I suppose the financial cost isn't huge but there is just years of accumulated hooks, swivels, clips and just general bits and bobs which are essentials and i'm just a bit gutted as it will take ages to build it all back up again (though an excellent excuse for a shopping trip)If anyone knows the bloke, has heard anything or in the unlikely event that he might be reading this i'd really appreciate my stuff back, all i know is that he was English, had two youngish sons and said he'd only emigrated a few months ago.

So this is a classic collapse scenario. The pros keep saying that catches aren't falling but the average punter sees them disappearing from areas they always were.My evidence may seem pretty slim but enough people keep saying the same thing.My primary income has never been from fishing. On Mum's Grandfather's side they were all pro hook and net fisherman. Some of the 2nd cousins still are. But sometimes enough is enough.SAVE THE CRABS

catch fillet release reacted to jimbojames in Behind the scenes Hook Line and Sinker
Well , what can i say . We will start with , what an awesome time an i was very privileged to be invited along . As far as i know there was a fair few entries asking the boys Andrew and Nick from Hook Line and Sinker to come fishing with them and out of all those entries they answer Mully Madness , Shane "mulloway" Evans to go down Goolwa beach to have a crack at some beach Mully's . I was just lucky to have Shane ask me to come along and help out . The weather was not in our favour and despite this Andrew managed his first Mulloway . Wasn't the biggest going a rough 30cm but still a Mully . Damian who was also invited by Shane landed a Gummy shark as well , that was just over legal . They got some pizzas for dinner and a few beers to wash it down . These blokes were really chill and great to have a fish with . The episode should be aired April the 13th i think . Hope it turns out well ;

catch fillet release reacted to Wahoo in PB KGW
Just been reading some of the thumper KG threads in this section & thought I'd share these.Fishie mentions in another thread the power hauling and netting that used to occur on the Stansbury Spit. For years all you could get inside the spit were undersized KGW, waste of time fishing there if you were after KGs. These 2 were caught back in early December, inside the spit in less than 3 metres of water. Both were caught using 6lb braid with 10lb mono trace and size 4 circles. Biggest (caught by the fair one) went 56cm, mine went 51cm. :woohoo: Dropped a similar size one at the boat the next day. Going back in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed.Cheers Wahoo
