    Great footage mate.

Wish we had the rivers like you have in Tassie to explore here in SA.

We have a few if you know where to find them but having said that I still like targeting redfin so they are the waters I fish most.

Sometimes it is just great being out in beautiful countryside and fishing.

    Love your work mate.

This video is one of several I made to the Meander River during the trout season.. Another fast water session where the Bug spinner did the job on the trout again..
    Hope you enjoy it..
    cheers

Yeah nothing worse than casting a mile then coming up solid to a clump of weed as soon as you turn the handle.
I’ve switched some of my metals trebles over to singles to help minimise this problem

And they would cast out into a wave and retrieve it with the motion of the ocean.

And even though I don't eat my catch nowadays they made me eat the fish we caught. Terrible childhood I had.

Some of my earliest memories involve those lures.

My Granddad used these on Goolwa beach when I was a wee lad.

Salmon and mulloway in the suds.

Big split cane beach rod which to me as a little kid was huge and heavy.

    And an Alvey reel.

Just remember to reel in fast when the wave is breaking so the line doesn't foul up the hook at the back.

Wish I had my Granddads rod now but I still have an Alvey reel matched up with a Wilson 10ft one piece rod that lives in my dining room.

But these days I use Spanyid Raiders or big blades coz they cast accurately right next the salmon schools and don't spook the fish.

Old metal lures are the ducks nuts coz they cast a mile and never say die but they also have some bad habits and don't copy the action of a wounded baitfish.

Big blades are also good but the trebles are prone to gathering weed at times like the Spanyids.

The old lures were more weed proof but swam too straight.

Ahh I spose retrieving with an alvey ensures you arent brining it in that quick.

I've got them on blades before but I havent thought to use metal slug type lures

Thanks for all the info Plec - I spose ID-ing a lure was alot easier back then -  as they were only 5 of them😉

How did you retrieve these metals for Mulloway - Hop hop pause or straight retrieve?

"Bernie Shzot's  Baltic series were, the Flash and Minnow which were the through line models, the Bobber which had the fixed double and the Gardie." See http://www.lurelovers.com/forum/paw-paw-and-more_topic1773.html
Being of a certain age myself, I remember when lure choice was easy in SA. The lure rack ws dominated by heavy metals: there were only Halco slices (with a red tag if you were flash), "Wonder Wobblers", "Wonder Pilchards", "Stingsildas", "WK Arrows" and "Baltic Bobbers/Gardies". Occasionally stocked were "Rebel Killers" (entire Minnows department), and "Flopys" (sole occupant of luxury, high-end soft plastics row!). Then "silver fox" VibroTails came on the scene and away it all went.......I still catch fish on my Wonder Wobblers and metal slices. I remember a summer when the mullowasy were on in the surf that I could not buy a "Gardie" anywhere

Long versions, or long copies thereof, used to be THE gun mulloway lures in the surf at the Murray Mouth (Coorong) in the 1970's !!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!

Most businesses are sold and purchased based on either an asset valuation which would include the licenses, boats, stock etc or based on potential income derived from current and past figures. I'm sure the government would want to be fair and use world standard methods of valuation to buy out peoples businesses 🤣

I am struggling to keep supporting my local tackle shop at Spot On in Salisbury coz Steve has always supplied what I need. And he is now a good mate.

My other local was St Kilda Tackle And Tucker and I cannot speak more highly of Cookie and Robyn and the crew.

BCF and Anaconda are only good when you are a member and get 50 per cent off things like swags. Problem is after you buy something they have a 3 day sale every 3 days and bombard you with emails. And most of the time they have no friggen idea what you need.

Support your local while you still can. I am worried they won't be around for much longer. And they will always try to give you a good price.

And Ray and Anne's have never let me down if I am in the area and need something.

Ray & Annes is pretty good as well as Port Adelaide Bait & tackle. SFS are really knowledgeable especially when Yatsey is there.

Agreed - but David Yates retired in December following his stroke. I do miss having some good chats with him as well - but he seems to be recovering really well
I definitely support that tackleshops that support my business as well and I also appreciate the support that I get from the general public.

    Agreed.

Just getting back into the hobby, after years of absence. Hit BCF, thinking they'd be able to give help/advice on gear etc., needed. Probably OK if you know what you need but not great with the knowledge Dept. Later, found an Indy tackle shop. Well stocked, helpful and very knowledgeable. Guess who's getting my business

While BCF and Anaconda have got the range they still aren't cheap when the sales are on.
I wanted a Shimano Sedona this week and seen them for $99 normally $124.99.
Ordered direct from overseas and is delivered to my door for $70.Not a huge saving but the gear i go through every year every bit helps to save me something,as for warranty that's virtually non existent these days.

I almost always buy online but only buy from anaconda or bcf when they have specials as i find they are almost alway more exspencive than my locally own and operated fishing store.
I don't like to support any chain stores as they don't offer good advice and seem to be answering questions without reel (pun) knowledge, i was at bcf looking at jigheads with the idea of attaching a 4" sp to a 5/0 or 4/0 3/4oz for casting at bustups while chasing tuna, one of the sales guys comes over and asks "can i help" i said no thanks im just checking out jigheads after some time he asked what i was looking for? So i explained what i was thinking about and he said for a 4" sp i needed a 1/0 to 4/0 form 1/20 to 1/8oz 🤔 i asked do you thing that this is suitable for catching and landing a 30kg tuna offshore? He looked at me puzzled and said for tuna you need bigger! You need 7 to 9" sp's for tuna! With that i said but what if they are only eating bait fish that are 4"? You have to match the hatch if you want to catch? Lol it was then that he could see he did not have the required experience to help me in what i was there for but hung around and learnt new from a novice😉
I even get similar responces from the guys in the local tackle store but they in most cases start to understand within minutes of what im getting at and then offer ideas on how to do whats required😉

Yet another DIY from your home industrial plant lol
But will be a good trial for sure.
The only thing I understand with ANC worms is that they don't like the cold.  So maybe when the cooler months come in, you may have to set up a light inside to give some warmth.
I did try Sheldon Catchall Crawlers - different I know - which claimed to be good in fresh and sea water - I used them in sea water and they died quickly .... just as if the were regular earth worms.
    http://www.sheldonsbait.com.au/catchall-crawlers/
Unfortunately, his trials showed the ANC to rate poorly against other worms, so I'm hoping you will prove this wrong

    Hey mate.
Try using some TT Snakelock weedless jigheads size 1/12 and size 4 hooks.
These should work well with your plastic grubs and stuff.
For some reason weedless hooks rarely get swallowed like standard jigheads.
Every salmon caught lately has been in the lips as well as bream.
