It was all about catching sand whiting on surface lures and how his experiences could translate to our yellowfin whiting. Starting from the beginning was gear talk; graphite rods, 1000-2500 sized reels with 6lb braid and 8-15lb leader depending on bycatch (flathead, tailor, salmon, trevally etc). Next the lures and the main three that Bushy rated highly were the Bassday Sugapen, Atomic K9 Bulldog and Zerek Trail Weaver in lures that are transparent. Instead of the trebles Bushy definitively recommended using assist hooks, home made or bought in the size 8-10 size. If making your own then have the two hook trailers staggered in length and there's no need for the middle treble so get rid of it. Also when connecting your lures to your leader, never use a loop knot or clip, always tie it directly. Where you tie it to the tow point was also a factor in your lure's action in the water and to check where it is tied after each fish so the lure maintains the best action over your fishing session.
The one key thing Bushy did mention that a lot of people don't do is to have a diamond stone hook sharpener when you're fishing and after every fish you hook, sharpen your lure's hooks. He attaches his to his fishing vest and after each hookup he sharpens the assist hooks and he believes it makes a huge difference in landing a couple or a bag out. He explained that the inside of a yellowfin's mouth is very rough and blunts hooks quickly. Little one percenters like this make a big difference.
Always throwing in a joke here or there, the night wrapped up around 9pm after a load of general questions from those present on the night. Very informative and a lot of lure sales probably occurred this week along with orders for assist hooks etc.

I know this is old but good new news there's nice size SILVER PERCH, CALLOP & landed 14 huge carp this week my 7 year old son caught an 88cm just over 10 pound on his tiny rod with 2 pound line with 10 pound leader gave him a good fight just over 15 minutes to land it was stoked to see him pull it up instead of him being pulled in Lol and the funny part is my son is just over just 100cm so the fish was nearly as big as him and he landed it.🎣

    Hi
I have always been an avid watcher of Big Angry Fish I really like the show, it has given a few ideas which I intend to try this year and see if the same techniques they use will work here in SA.
I have taken the first step in one of those ideas and now have in my possession my versions of Nathan's famous skutes. I did not tie them but I have been bitten by the bug and already have some ideas on my own versions for different species and going to teach myself how to tie them it cant be that hard .
I was fortunate to ask someone I have known for a while and here are what I picked up today
Ive got to say that I am really happy with what he produced I am now dying to get out try........if this #@%^ing wind ever stops long enough to allow me to go where I want to go. I will be making a sacrifice tomorrow on the sabbath to the weather gods

    Here's the 10 I got today

April would have to be my favourite time to go there, so you're on the money for some good fishing! Especially on the South Coast. If there are offshore winds, it would be worth having a suss at some of the main beaches down there, might come across a salmon school for endless exhausting fun. Good luck ScaledUp! Really looking forward to the report
P.S. I remember years back, I asked the same questions on this forum.. If it weren't for the help of fellow S&H'ers my trips wouldn't have been as eventful as they were! Great people make a great forum..

your videos and reports are a major part of the motivation to get there - I had already planned to check out those spots you showed.   It's really pleasing to see a young bloke like you who's passionate about being outdoors and really enjoying the big wide world.

Prime season for the mullet run. Salmon should be back too.
Defiantly be beach fishing Emu for mullet and have a go for a  toothie of a night, depending on tides.
Much of Flinder's Chase is inaccessible for fishing. Sandy Beach (walk in) and West Bay are excellent surf beaches for salmon.
    Hanson & Vivonne Bays . D'estrees Bay - Wreckers & Wheaton's beaches, a few of my faves.
I'm unfamiliar with Peneshaw thru to Emu, mainly focused on Sth Coast salmon fishing.
NFI re boating or charters. Would again depend on what you wanted to target: gar, kgw, snaps....nannies, kingies, tuna. Tuna will likely still be around and are not far offshore for the charter operators.
KI looks small but there are a lot of kms between drinks. Focusing on a couple of things is not a bad idea unless general 'exploring'. Also it's not called 'kangaroo' island for nothing. There are plagues of 'roos & wallabies, i couldn't recommend driving of a night!

"That" profile was getting around a few trout and redfin pages on facebook asking around for trout spots and the likes.
Youd be surprised how many actually messaged it back and replied to her comments....

Just a heads up guys. Came across an instagram account tonight masqurading as a young lady who fishes adelaide hills creeks and streams for trout.
None of her photos are Legit, and a reverse image search revealed at least one of the photos she is claiming as her own is actually one of Meppsta's (I presume)

The account is https://www.instagram.com/ruzzomelissa/ if anyone wants to check it out for any of there own pictures.

Alexsfishin1 reacted to Meppstas in Tasmanian freshwater lobster & Platypus...
Yesterday while heading up to Liena (Mersey River) for a spin session I came across a fresh water Lobster in the middle of the road. It had climbed up a steep bank so it could reach the on the other side of the road. This was because the poor thing couldn't reach a concrete pipe that ran under the road that the creek water flowed through.. It is now in the creek that it was trying to reach.. I was a little worried it may have been run over by a quarry truck that wasn't all that far behind me when I spotted it, lucky for it the truck missed it.. Then today as I was heading back to the car I spotted a Platypus next to the river bank so took a photo of that too.. here's a couple of pic's of some of Tasmania's wild life..

    cheers
    Adrian

Fresh water lobster, a protected species that comes with a $10,000 fine for each one that is found in a persons possession..

And here we have the little Tasmanian Platypus that is quite common in most rivers around the state.. always nice to see them in the rivers..

Any way decided I'll use these as a test photo on the new upgrade....  Wow !! it's a quick upload which is great and much easier to use...
