I have been catching some impressive gummies around Edithburgh.Try the rips around Saltana Point around dusk.Use squid heads on a running rig.I know its not against the law to catch and keep females but after gutting a good size female a few years ago and finding over 30 pups happily swimming around inside her,i have made it my rule not to keep females. The one I am holding here is a male.

I lost my job due to my brain injury back in 2015 can’t find paid work . I will not defend Centrelink but at this time they are doing their best . I’ve had Centrelink issues cut off due to their error but back on Newstart. Sorry to everyone who has lost their job but be unemployed over 55 there are zero jobs in Adelaide. Now Wert if you think Centrelink is bad wait until you see a job provider in my case I’m with a disability employment service I heard every second meeting we will cut you off of Newstart various reasons main one attending the industrial court for my court case .
so while Centrelink isn’t great get ready job providers are worse
plus there’s no jobs for over 55s in Adelaide
And I was lucky to escape Nazi DES workers I took Centrelinks advice and volunteered for Newstart my age group 55 to 65 volunteer for 15 hours a week no need to look for jobs that aren’t there or go to meetings every two weeks or do another useless 12 month course . I was enjoying my volunteering job until they shut shop due to the virus

I am a health care worker and amateur prepper, so I'll share some of my thoughts. At this stage the restriction is only travelling interstate. Social distancing is easier out of the city and the fishing is better but there are a few down sides I can think about.

If you do go, some of the things to think about are
How is your health? Are you in a high risk group due to medical issues or age? Medical resources thin out rapidly when you get out of Metro Adelaide. While community transmission of Covid is low in SA, things are changing rapidly day to day and week to week. Also as the outbreak continues, local country hospitals will rapidly be overwhelmed and may not be able to assist you. Have you got any contacts in the West Coast that you could stay with or could help you if things get bad? Do you have any family or friends that need assistance back in Adelaide. If you were stuck somewhere are unable to get back to Adelaide, would this be an issue. I see you are reasonably self sufficient already. How much food, water and fuel do you carry and how far could you travel if suddenly things were locked down or if fuel supplies got interrupted? Would you be able to get back to Adelaide if fuel was short? How good is your phone and internet network? I had trouble calling my parents today on the mobile network. They are in Melbourne and I got a prerecorded message from telstra saying that the network was having issues. Have you got any other means of communication is mobile communication and internet go down?

Likely hood of full lockdown is low at the moment but this is what you want to be keeping an eye on
    https://www.health.gov.au/news/australian-health-protection-principal-committee-ahppc-coronavirus-covid-19-statement-on-22-march-2020
The AHPPC advise the government on public health measures. They have already spelt out their trigger for full lockdown and this will be the thing to watch

Or maybe I am overthinking this and we should all go fishing...

Just thought i'd put a thread up of some of the other lures i have painted up at the moment. Originally my main goal was to mainly paint the topwater Lures for YFW and sell them just as an hobby sort of thing. However after watching countless hours of Youtube and reading forums I now know there is alot more i can paint/create and not to pump them out quantity wise. Instead getting creative and painting for Quality and doing it more for myself.
Unfortunately I have painted up most of the blanks I originally had. I have a few hundred dollars worth of blanks, films, stencils and bits and pieces i have purchased being held as  the coronavirus hit most of the areas I purchase my gear from. So am waiting for freight companies to resume there services so i can start painting up new lures..
My main blanks I am planning to paint will be for the upcoming season. So will mainly be Trout, Redfin and Salmon lures. I have a range of Stickbaits, and metals for the Salmon. The Trout and Redfin will be a range of minnows perfect for both dams/lakes and creeks and streams.   I will keep you all up to date with the processes and what I create.  In the mean time here are a couple I have painted over the last month or so ....

    Hey mate.
Try using some TT Snakelock weedless jigheads size 1/12 and size 4 hooks.
These should work well with your plastic grubs and stuff.
For some reason weedless hooks rarely get swallowed like standard jigheads.
Every salmon caught lately has been in the lips as well as bream.

Just ate some frozen whole crab we caught at Pt Julia in March this year. Some was green and the other was steamed. I'll never boil another crab. The steamed stuff is way better. Flesh really firms up, less gunk in the body. Anyway, frozen was fine, bloody good in fact.

Mal, I met a bloke years ago who cooked them, shelled them, packed the meat in meal sized containers and then froze them. I had always practiced catch 'em, cook 'em & eat 'em and after he gave me a box of frozen crab meat to try, I still believe in catch 'em, cook 'em & eat 'em - you just can't beat fresh blue swimmers.

There is a fish called Black snapper it looks more like a large bream, they are usually caught in the Pacific and Indian oceans.Every now and then strange things do show up in our gulf such as elephant shark at Price and on one occasion a massive sun fish crusing the shallows of the upper reaches of the spencer gulf.

One rule I learnt many years ago when fishing for mullies if they are there and hungry they will bite if they they are not there,no matter what moon you will go home empty handed.I have fished the west coast on different tides, moons and times of day and been successful.Salt creek is the same. My biggest mullies(30-40 kilo)have all come from outer harbour end of the port in the last hour of the outgoing tides on live baits(mullet and salmon trout being the best) in the middle of the night.I have kept a diary since the early 80s and I can say looking back the best time of year has been August and the moon phase has played little part.A tip for anyone fishing live baits ,keep them off the bottom, about a meter is fine.Any live bait casted out with a hook shoved in it is going to hide and only become crab bait. Here is a cryptic clue to the best mulloway spot in Adelaide, the deep side of 34...….im to old to sit there on cold nights so I don't mind giving up my fav mullie hole...good luck to anyone giving it a try, remember august is the best time but they do show up all through the winter months.

When fishing from a boat or wharf I use a running rig,and simply drop it down to the bottom and lift it up a meter. This encourages the bait to keep swimming trying to find cover.Surf fishing is different, I will use large slab baits of salmon or whole squid.I like to hook my livies just in front of the dorsal fin just piercing the skin.when fishing river systems I would use a large foam float, I have seen this work well around west lakes and creek mouths around the port.

Ahh I see - I was on the wrong track imagining you were casting out into the middle of a river.

Yeah when I fish wharfs for them - first I do recon to find a spot where the biggest schools of bait hang out at night - then I burley all session and set one livie at 1.5m down and the other at 3m.

I like to Burley half a teaspoon at a time, every 5 mins over the session, Helps to build the bait school bigger/ keeps it flashing and darting around / keeps scent in the water and gives me something to do while waiting for a hit.

I even used to experiment with splashing 10 litre buckets of water over a wide area to simulate surface activity. Cant say for sure whether this helped - but on some nights it definitely didnt hurt. Especially when the little pack hunting Jewies were charging through the surface bait schools

I've got a mate who sets an alarm on his phone and watches the water to make sure its gone slack - then he casts - he likes the the exact second the incoming tide starts. He doesnt want to put lures infront of fish that arent ready to feed yet

I'm a bit more relaxed - I'll take any stage of incoming tide.  But I prefer it to happen around dusk.

With lures - I usually put 12 casts in to a spot before moving on to the next.

But with livies - I'll sit it out and a 3- 4 hour session is long enough to let me know if they were going to hit or not.

I really start to focus on the rod tips once darkness begins to fall - thats mainly because I've caught all my livies and I've got nothing better to do - but change of light and the hour or 2 after, are when I do my most intense staring at tips.

I do like weak incoming tides in the most of the spots I fish. Theres always exceptions where the complete opposite is true - like a bottleneck where bait is forced out on an out going tide. But as a general rule - incoming tide at dusk is what I go for
