Thats why the jetty is closed off, because theres harvestable clams underneath that there trying to protect...lol.It would be like Gold Rush Alaska if they opened it up..LOL :laugh:Just to get this back to the thread topic.Thats what the Government is clearly failing to recognise, they already have three areas that are effectively acting as No Take Zones already.Aldinga Aquatic ReservePort Norlunga Aquatic ReservePort Stanvac JettyNot to mention the Hobart. And they are going to implement more for us. ARENT WE LUCKY.

ay mate sounds like fun , from my experiences that will keep you flat out, whitting in the morning tide and hit the beaches for the afternoon tide. Thats what i normaly do, at Mt Camel me mate always hits the best whole on the beach while I try and fish the rocks to the left on the main beach. There is a big gutter that runs back along the beach and out. 9 times out of 10 i will catch a few big ones in there before he has any. Just be mine full of the swell sit in the car park for 10 to 15mins watching the swell breaking on the rocks first. The rocks are mainly flat and they are about 3 foot higher than the beach it self so dont fall off :woohoo: Just wear a good grippy shoe and you should be fine but if in doubt just fish the beach. Let me know how you go .

As long as the pros are pillaging all of the cockles and selling them interstate as food then we'll be sweet paying top dollar here for them as bait ;)Clearly have thrashed one area so we can just "share" with them and they can empty the next before its closed off.Such a pity you have to think twice about buying cockles...

Hey mate, if you've found the "other" forum, good luck. You will get alot of ego's and "put in the time newb", and "we arnt spoon feeding you" type help. This forum is much more close knit, has easier going admin and you will quickly see there is lots of helpfull guys on here actually willing to help and not just making boys clubs. In regards to tips, I too made a recent comeback from an extended Hiatus from angling.Since I left, the major development was the introduction of Braid line, plastix and the use of 3000-4000 sized spinning reels on graphite rods to land big fish, These aspect will be of huge benefit to you when fishing the Onk. Some absolute Onk gurus on here if u do the reading and lastly if you want, go see mark Mills at anglers choices on beach road, he will set you straight and a top guy to boot .

Just had my 5 year anniversary with the missus. She is well aware there is not much else i think about when it comes to fishing I think she has learnt over time that if i want to go fishing i'm probably going to do it but i am just as flexible when she wants to do something she likes. Although at the end of the day i would be just as happy fishing with my missus or a mate. The only reason i'd ever choose not to fish with her is if i knew she would want to bail early into a session..She's good fun to hang out with thoughSquid

I thought i'd hit up Borders as they are closing down so books are 50-70% off plus another 10% off the final price.Walked away with...1) Rockfishing Secrets and Ocean Safety $9 (was $20) I've only had a quick flick through it but it seems like an interesting book with a few tips in it that i should find helpful. It has many chapters on reading the water, dealing with dangerous situations and heaps of general fishing info all related to rock fishing.2) Geoff Wilson's Fishing Knots and Rigs + DVD $15 (was $33) I own an old smaller copy of a knot book by Geoff Wilson but this new book is bloody awesome! It is really easy to read and has very straight forward instructions and diagrams on how to tie around 50 different knots as well as a section on how to make up rigs for different types of fishing. The book came with a dvd too but haven't checked it out yet. What I've found most handy about the book is it has a very high quality zoomed in picture of the knots when they are finished so you can see VERY easily what they should look like and to see if yours is the same. Great book!3) Where the fish are: An Angler's guide to fish behaviour $15 (was $33) I don't know how i've lived without this book! It is written with anglers in mind so it doesn't get too scientific but it explains all of the priciples that effect fish and their behaviour. Possibly the best and most useful book i've ever purchased for fishing purposes!!!Last week I also purchased Steve Starling's "Fishing with Soft Plastics". I already own his previous book "On Soft Plastics and how to use them" but found the new one to contain a lot more information that was very useful. If you are keen on starting out with SP's do yourself a favour and grab yourself a copy of this book as it explains EVERYTHING and is laid out in a very easy to read manner. If you've had a fair bit of experience with SP's you will still get a lot out of this book too.I'm always on the hunt for new books so if anyone thinks of anything they've found useful let me know :)CheersSquid

have u tried another leader brand of fluro, i tried some nitlon a few years ago lost 2 cracking fish on the stuffchanged brands never a problem again, o & i have used the 5 turn surgeons knot for about 5 years now also put a bit of spit on the loose knot before tighting up, nice & slowly.list of fluro leader materials in order of use over the years.berkley vanish 8-10lb (good stuff)nitlon DFC 8lb (never again)berkley vanish 8lb sometimes some 6lb.rio 8lb (preety good)surecatch 8lb. (rubbish)froghair 3 to 8lb excellent stuff hard to get hold of.sufix 6lb jurys still out on this one but not bad so far.seagle 4-10lb good gear.seaguar 4lb excellent.i am currently using leader by line system in the 8lb. & is proving its self to be an excellent product.these leader materials have been used on extending tippets on fly line leaders to throwing HBs & SPs to bream.i still use 15 or 20lb vanish when up the river throwing lures to snag hugging callop has'nt let me down yet.

Hahaha Uwain get the 2500 fella! Will cover almost all of your fishing you're likely to do I started off with a 3000 but considering the size of fish i've caught on my 2500 it's just not needed! A lot more comfortable when you're flicking lures all day

statesquider reacted to lure crazy in check your boat trailers
Howdy, would have posted this earlier, but been up at roxby downs for the week. Headed back from walkers flat last weekend and after getting to mt pleasant, the boat trailer wheel came off, with the boat and trailer taking a hard hit on the road. Sinse having problems with my last trailer, I check over it before any trips thoroughly. Some idiot had removed all the wheel nuts on the side thurthest from the camp site. All I can say is I was bloody lucky it wasnt at chain of ponds or in a 110km/hr zone. The trailer fell in a way that it luckily caused no damage to the boat or trailer apart from the U bolts holding the axle in place. Make sure you ckeck your trailer before you leave camp when other pissed idiots are camping nearby. Could be a costly excersize other wise!

My thinking is... And I might be dreamingYou want the breaking strain of your leader/braid knot to be more than your leader to lure clip/swivel knotUsing 10lb leaders and 6lb braid.... I go a 5 turn surgeons, which is close to 100% breaking strain. I then use a simple clinch to swivel, which is around 40%Ends up snapping off at the lure clip every time. Not sure if my theory is correct, but it does work!
