Tom_Fishin got a reaction from Squid Inc. in South Australian Snapper Stocks survey
G'day fishos,
Hope you're all well! For my Year 11 studies, I have chosen to research the decline of snapper stocks in the Gulf of St Vincent. I have conducted a survey about this topic to help conduct with my research. I would appreciate if you could take the time out the fill in my survey!
Tight lines,
Tom

Tom_Fishin reacted to southie THE BANGA in Show us your Latest Fishing Purchases!
C'mon be honest we are all guilty of it!
That's buying new gear!
What are some of your latest fishing related purchases?
As most of you know that I work in the Tackle industry so I am surrounded by it quiet a bit. While I am spoiled for choice unfortunately the pay cheque doesn't allow me to purchase all the things I really want.
The biggest advantage however is picking up all the clearance/clear out items before most other people which is a bonus.
I picked this Combo up and have been saving for it and i finally picked up the reel yesterday.
This will be my new Landbased Bream setup.
The setup is an Daiwa T.D Commander V1 Avenger with an T.D Daiwa Battler 2000. It feels so light and looks so sexy in the flesh. The reel will be spooled up with Unitika Silver Thread Fluorocarbon and will be using this as my hardbody setup.
Can't wait to use it!
So what have you recently purchased? Rods? Reels? Lures?

Tom_Fishin reacted to Meppstas in Mirror image on glassy water...
Thanks guys, yes quite often come across them in the rivers.. here's one from the Mersey River when I was fishing, it sat there until I took it's photo then moved off.
It's really great to see them when fishing the rivers, I've had them swim between my legs on several occasions, I just remain motionless so they don't notice any movement.
cheers

Funny Spanish name for baked Bream with capsicum, chilli and potatoes. I don't normally keep Bream (2/year maybe), but they are a tasty treat every so often. ðŸŸðŸ˜

Tom_Fishin got a reaction from Seeseacol in Shimano Travel Rods
Funny you say that, we headed down to Salt Creek for a day trip to christen dad's new surf rod ( Shimano Areo Wave). anyway, he was pulling in a chunk of weed of the beach, when the split butt snapped in two! this is the third time our Shimano rods have done this. We went back to where we purchased the rod from (Anaconda) and the guy at the front desk accused us of running it over with a car! Very disappointed with Shimano rods.

Tom_Fishin reacted to Seeseacol in Shimano Travel Rods
Not pleased !...bought 2 Shimano Travel Spin Rods a year or more ago, one 6 ft one 9 ft. The 9 footer I've only used a few times, seems OK, the other 6 ft Inshore Spin used maybe a dozen times. Despite little use and still looking like new the 6 footer snapped the other day about 1/3 down from the tip with very little pressure, just lifting it into the boat { not at the joins but midway between} I then lightly flexed the broken top section with only my finger tips as a test, and snapped the broken section 3 more times very easily. Surely no rod should be this weak in construction ?, it will certainly make me think about buying Shimano carbon fibre rods ever again, maybe even any carbon fibre ones. Cant help but wonder if carbon fibre may be light and have good cast action , but mine sure seem to be seem to be fragile. Bit like my very expensive Saltist Demon Blood, scratches very easily and doesn't not seem at all robust.

I'm going to smoke this big piece of mackeral this arvo in the BBQ with the lid down. I get some really good smoke off the solid plate.
Been brining for 48 hrs now drying off in the fridge.
If it tastes good I'll let you know. If it is crap I will never mention it again.

Tom_Fishin reacted to danfish1234 in Garfish
Headed down the fleurieu peninsula on saturday. Got there early morning on the hightide. Started receding nicley. Put my rag soaked in tuna oil in and in 10 mins there was plenty of garfish swimming around in my berley trail. Put out a float on one rod and the other with 2 splitshots and let that one drift. Ended up with 14 ranging between legal - 27cm. And 4 at 30cm. Fair few undersized that i had to work through but persisted. The legal ones were nice and fat aswell. Things shut off after and hour or so. Bring on the warmer weather!

Tom_Fishin reacted to Zebphillips in Fishing for mates
I was just after a bit of information regarding LB fishing clubs
whenever I plan a 4wd & camping trip I've got plenty of mates signing up and booking time off but when it comes to a far west coast or kangaroo island fishing trip no one seems to have any annual leave or the old it's my misses school reunion. So my question is is anyone a part of or know of Mainly LB fishing clubs that do a lot of bigs trips. I'd love to be able to get interstate a few times a year or at least over to the west coast. Any information would be much appreciated.
The other option is if there's anyone else out there with mates that don't fish and really probably shouldn't be mates with them if they don't , that would be interested in organizing a few trips thoughout the year. Chuck us a PM.
Cheers

Tom_Fishin reacted to bjorn2fish in OnkaStompa - Strike Hook BBQ Looking for a volunteer or two
G'day everyone,
The Strike Hook BBQ is something we do every year at the OnkaStompa and is real helpful for raising extra money on the day of the OnkaStompa for the Childhood Cancer Association.
At the moment we have 3 definite volunteers to help man the BBQ. A huge thanks going out to Southie and Doobie who will be be there along with myself.
We are looking for another volunteer or two. If anyone can lend a hand for even a short time we would be very grateful.
Some of the tasks involved are cooking the snags, preparing the snags and bread, handing over drinks dealing with orders and handling cash.
If anyone would like any further info just send me a pm or post down below.
Cheers

Tom_Fishin reacted to Underpants in Where to take the young fella LB?
Any ideas where to take the young fella (4 1/2yrs) tomorrow for a LB session?
I was thinking West Lakes, either up near Bower Rd or down Trimmer Pde .............. maybe a lazy fresh session if reddies are likely to take tiger worms under a float in the upper Onk somewhere? Kinda to be nice to use his collection of those little red&white plastic floats i've had to buy every time we've been in a tackle shop.
Feel free to PM your secret spots !
