afishyfish reacted to plankton in Stalking Large Lake Pike
I used to chase northern pike in Maine back in the US, great fun, they strike hard and put up a good fight. Biggest I ever got was around half a metre, but I saw some metre plus ones caught.

afishyfish reacted to Cleaver in Shark capture - Media beat up Reloaded
Just got off the phone with Troy (if you're reading this thanks for the call). It will be/was alleged that the person was fishing with wire trace when and where he should not have been to put simply (he has 30 days to appeal). As per the AN article in realtion to the other chaps the investigation is ongoing as it will be alleged some of his mates were using non prescribed gear ie wire trace at a time and place currently prohibited under section 79 of the fisheries management act 2007. Cheers,Greg.

Yeah aff, in the last half hour I pulled about 50 big ones from doing the cockle dance. Couldn't find any under 45 mm if I tried.

afishyfish reacted to kon in SA boaters not happy!
Groan... :whistle:Transport Minister Pat Conlon blamed the rise in unspent levy on a fall in applications for funding by local councils, which under a protocol are asked to meet 50 per cent of funding for a project. How very convenient to have such a protocol with councils being short of money and all. -
afishyfish reacted to Kingsley in SA boaters not happy!
Yeah I was reading this earlier today. If you read things like this page http://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/recboatingfacilities it makes it sound like the levy money is put in some special fund that can't be touched other than for facilities....What do you think has happened with the money? (in bold below) :)Relevant legislation relating to the Facilities Levy Fund:Harbors and Navigation Regulations 2009

afishyfish reacted to archerfish in Cockling season 2012/13
Went down to Middleton today in pursuit of the old Donax deltoides hoping it would be a little quieter than Goolwa Beach...WRONG!!!Totally overrun with surfers...Finally ended up at Goolwa (Pipi Central) and was totally amazed at the number of vehicles/people there (a bit like Rundle Street on a busy day)...Got what I wanted (with the help of a little tacker whose parents just wanted him to go on a "treasure hunt", but weren't interested in the least in keeping their catch), then headed back home after a quick re-fuelling stop at the Port Elliot Bakery.A good day - got me out of the house and got some bait for my forthcoming Coffin Bay trip.Cheersaf

afishyfish reacted to billygoat-ruff in Cockling season 2012/13
I headed down goolwa beach today too, so much for the new restrictions on where you get them from and dogs on leash. Every dog I saw was off the leash, one dog was less then a metre from gettin run over by the 4x4 in front of us on the way back. Anyway ended up with 180 odd cockles in 2 and a bit hours. Was a cracker day.

afishyfish got a reaction from paulgreenacre in Instant Predator take off a dead accurate cast
Nice going Paul .Ive often heard the term " Garvel Pit" used in your country. Is that referring to something like an old quarry, or a lake that happens to have a gravel bed ?Either way it looks like an awesome place to fish

Pretty sure you'll find that number 5 refers to size. Used to use the little ones for trout, they're killers on browns!

afishyfish reacted to ausea in Alvey reels
A couple things that need to be remembered re Alvey reelsOne is that they are not long distance casters, they spend their time sitting in a rod holder. They can’t be used for continuous bait casting. They have limited drag so spooling the reel is required during a strong run.Because the distance from the reel to the first eyelet a side wind will peel line off the reel. You can fit a rubber band on the rod to pinch the line to keep it tight. If iv’e explaind that properly.I have owned three and they work ok but do have those thingo’s about them.I enjoyed owning a seamartin more.Theres a wooden one on ebay now i bet it goes for $1000http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CLIFF-MARTIN-CEDAR-WOOD-SEAMARTIN-Vintage-Surf-Fishing-Reel-Australian-/321015652408?pt=AU_Vintage_Fishing&hash=item4abe062038

I like gathering, yeah, good word. Harvesting, collecting, extracting and the good old getting would all work well.PIRSA calls it "fishing for Pipis".
