  1. I've heard the squid like the dark colours and black because they cast a good silhouette, so its more about seeing the outline of the jag more than the jag itself in some cases.i find that having a few eratic sharp tugs on the line also helps with this visualisation as it gets there attention if you watch the guys who live "Egi" fishing they work there rods like mador watch the swine at work :laugh::laugh:

  2. seen em there before me self and always wondered how and what tha hell they get if anything and how they get it over that fence if they get one :blink: i know across the salt pans you can "illegally" catch kg's and flat head when your a teenager   well so i've heard   :whistle:cheers 4THA

Pipi (Goolwa cockle) - restricted to four times the recreational bag limit (400 for pipi located west of longitude 136E, 1200 pipi in other areas).
bit of cape catastrophe on my reading there :blink: as you were gentleman
  4. only one i disagree with is the 400 limit on cockles in your freezer at a time, i have around 600 in my freezer at tha moment from earlier in the year when i had my brother, wife and kids with me to make the trip worth are while even then we only grabbed 800 from a possible 1500 (5x300) it wouldn't kill us not being able to keep more than 400, but Goolwa wouldn't be get'n atleast $100 of my hard earned from spending the day down there after buying lunches drinks etc.as for how they are going to police it who knows, seems the general consensus on this forum is most only take what they need and alot are being converted to catch and release especially with snapper i seen Gail Gago on telly last night sproutin her sideways jaw off about how they'd police it she reckons dobbing in other fishers would help :laugh: cheers 4THA

  5. i reckon it's all to do with the moon phase's, tides, etc go out and have a crack after a falling barometer its like they are famished and will smash ny on anything article about them in sunday mail today, similar to this i just found SEX sessions lasting up to three hours leave squid so exhausted that they have a reduced ability to swim, Melbourne University research revealed. The findings - which may first appear salacious - actually reveal a lot about the species and the way its limited lifespan informs its behaviour.A paper published yesterday in the international journal Biology Letters is the first to outline the energetic costs of mating on the dumpling squid and the impact sex has on physical abilities after mating.Science masters student Amanda Franklin led the research, which found that both the male and female squid experienced a reduced ability to swim for up to 30 minutes after mating with each partner. This left them vulnerable to predators and with a reduced window for the nocturnal creatures to find other mates and to feed.'If mating is energetically costly, which it is, then there has to be benefits which outweigh that,'' she said. ''There has to be a reason why they do what they do.''Franklin said in the case of the dumpling squid, this was because of its limited lifespan of less than a year, with adults sexually mature for just four months.''There's a short sexually mature period, so there are costs associated with mating but that is offset because they produce more young and get to pass on their genes.''Franklin said the promiscuous squid have multiple partners, with the mating initiated by the males ''whenever the opportunity arises''. ''Pretty much whenever he sees a female he will go for it and if he can get her, then she has to mate with him as she can't escape,'' Franklin said.To reduce the risk of attack while recovering, the squid bury themselves in sand on the sea floor and can also produce a cloud of ink when challenged to help them escape from predators.Franklin, with zoology department colleagues Zoe Squires and Devi Stuart-Fox, studied dumpling squid found in shallow waters around Port Phillip Bay and Tasmania. The squid mate year-round and are nocturnal and grow to about 7 centimetres long as adultssexsuid.jpgcheers 4THA

  6. out in the boat 90% on tha cast unless we are gettn fish(whiting) then the handline comes into play cos tha squid chase the fish up then see the jag just hangin, i never use floats unless off of rocks off the jetty always casting, ihave a 2 pole cast system every second pole/pylon 2 cast no squid move on . love goin to Moonta casting past all thee stagnant floats and usually get a few cheers 4THA

  9. for me i wanna catch my big Mully off a beach with some blokes that have some knowledge/experience of the place im gunna be fishn, i have no experience in fishn for them in the river system (excluding schoolies) and the blokes that get the big chaps have done it for years and live it weekly and are good enough to get them boatside, get a pic and tag in and release them, alot of the time having to pull up anchor and chase them, wich in it self is an art.as for snapper i have been lucky enough to have caught plenty in deep and shallow water i have caught 5-7kg ones that have put in efforts on par with some 10 kg plus models i've snagged ;) now i'm into the sport of it more and using lighter gear i'm loving it even looking at other options at the moment to go lighter again i will let ya know one of these days if i enjoy mullies more or not though, as a trip to Yalata will hopefully one day be on the cards cheers 4THA
