Last friday my boss Mark took Curtis Jacob an myself out in his Cruise Craft boat from Wirrina . We headed for Cape Jervis with the intention of catching snapper between there an Kangaroo Island . We arrived at our location set up an cast out for a drift till we came across some snapper . We were in about 60m of water but drifting quite fast . Decided to sound around in about 40m of water an anchor up . With the tide cranking i was finding it hard to hit the bottom with my set up . Put all of my sinkers on just to try an hit the bottom , finally got down , to have another line cut straight through my line and all sinkers an about 60m of line dissapear .Borrowed Marks rod a couple of times to have a fish . Even he had about half a kilo of lead on his line to hit the bottom . The amount of current running an sinkers on your line did make every fish feel about 4 times its size so that was fun but disappointing some times . All in all the boys Curtis an Jacob caught some snapper an some snook which was a first for both of them an i caught another gummy shark an snapper which was fun for me an we all had a great day on the water . A big thankyou to Mark for taking us out on his boat for an awesome Snapper Sesh .://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22jGlxOHDbk

My recent snapper catches have been spreadsheeted and results are showing that we are bagging out when the moon is plus or minus 30odd percent either side of a full or new moon.So the snapper are definately biting on full and new moon down south.I think tonight would be a great night to be out there.up until this year I had never even paid attention to the moon phase but now im keen to take note before planning the trip. ;)

I've been a huge fan of Penn reels for many years, but ever since the were bought up and became part of the whole Shakespeare conglomerate, their new stuff looks a bit suspect. A lot of their newer reels are re-badged versions of other Shakespeare reels like Pfluegers. The AF and the Affinity are the same reel, but for me the only Penns I would consider are the older designs that are black and gold.

If you have a fancy smart phone (iphone etc) that has a GPS, turn it off when you take pics of your fish AT YOUR FISHING LOCATION...Your current GPS location is stored in the picture (EXIF data), giving away your 'spot x'. Or if you take a picture of your catch at home...So do yourself a boral paver, turn off your GPS, or disable the option to store your current location in pics.

I really gave my new trolley a workout on sunday.was overloaded with Crikey Mikey adding his gear on also, but I needed him to act as the work-horse  fell over a couple of times (no damage to anything). will try it again with a much lighter load. but it did make it to cod heavenand this is why we make the long trek.Crikey's First cod.....still waiting for mine

chunky reacted to Jack. in my first crack at making soft plastics
Haha got the Aussie lighter from a servo around Australia day :)The plastics are ReaLLY rubbery and have big wobble to them with the paddle tail. When I do the molds, I will make em smaller and I'm not usually a massive fan of paddle tails, but these seemed to work :). As you can see in the pics, I trimmed some up into little flickbaits and thought they might have been more successful but weren't.Today was slow out there and I was the only one to even use a plastic at all. The other two clowns I was with were busy landing Snapper after Snapper (just pinkies, but some threatening legal). Trevally and Salmon trout occasionally too. It was frustrating because I didn't want to give up trying to get myself a Flathead on the SPs, but I heaps wanted to just have fun trying to crack a rugger :)Anyway, perseverance paid off.. Out there sick as dog with fish coming in on bait... But after the breakthrough salmon trout that I dropped before a pic, then this Bream that I fluked and I called it quits for the plastics. Also I would NEVER have thought to target a Bream with this sort of big bulky plastic.... Just goes to show I should probably broaden my horizons abit and give the wrigglers a rest ;)P.s. I'm sick as a dog with a cold.... But definately have a smile on my dial
