    G'day
I enjoy hearing about people involved in illegal fishing activities who get caught and pay a hefty penalty for it.  Go for it I say, take their boat and their car if it is being used to fish illegally for profit.
However, as a recreational fisher I don't like the fact that these low lifes who rape and pillage our seas, get called 'recreational fishers'
To my mind, once they cross the line from accidentally having an extra fish, to seriously abusing the limits, they become criminals and should be named as such, not called recreational fishers.
eg If someone is jogging along taking handbags would you call them a jogger or a bag snatcher?
If someone is driving a car that they have stolen, would you call them a 'motorist' or a car thief?
If someone goes in to a store and removes goods without paying for them, would you call them a 'shopper' or a shop lifter?
    etc
So why punch us law abiding recreational fishers in the nose by calling these marine poacher scumbags 'recreational fishers'
I find it very offensive, please use an appropriate term
    Cheers
    Rod

Fishing SA Feb/March 2014 is one of our best editions yet. Inside we have detailed features on Salt Creek mulloway, gummy sharks and salmon, far west coast mulloway, releasing fish better, offshore kingfish, making a live bait tank, silver perch and catching freshwater monsters. As usual we've also crammed in state-wide fishing reports, detailing all the tuna hot spots, and a stack of product reviews. It's a big mag with stacks of reading.Check out FSA 33! www.fishingsa.com.au

Hey Macca.... nice little AppReally like the ease of using it and especially having access to certain beaches rather than searching areas like Wallaroo and then having to + or - minutes to get your tides for the area you are fishing....great work mate..... this has just replaced my other app i use to use. :cheer:

I posted this under the story on the adelaide snapper and fishing facebook page and i stand by it. People are cracking the shits with this guy catching and keeping a species when is legally allowed to do so on the one hand yet the WA government has issued a kill order on Great Whites Sharks, a protected species WORLDWIDE, because a few people were attacked by sharks over a number of years whilst they were entering their territory, primarily surfers which look like a Great White's natural prey.I'm not necessarily condoning him killing the Tiger shark but he is legally allowed to do so, what he does morally is up to him at the end of the day.If u want to get upset about needless shark slaughter then direct it towards the senseless culling of Great Whites, in my opinion brought about mainly by the media playing on peoples fear of sharks, particularly Great White sharks. My two cents worth.

Claiming it as my best day fishing ever!Which is a BIG call for me.Heading down to locks well and a MASSIVE school of salmon sitting in a gutter about 40m out.Grabbed my favourite lure Duel Adagio and proceeded to cast for hours on end until my arms were sooooo sore!Normally these schools hold fish 1-3kg but ended up hooking a donkey of a fish!New PB salmon from the surf for me went 5.8kg.Few sharks hanging out the back and kept the school of fish right there. didn't really want to hook a 10ft bronzie but when you foul hook a salmon I suppose it's easy food for him.Thank goodness got my lure back!awesome fun! went back the next day with my whiting rod 6lb line but the school had moved to far out the back to cast

You drop $150 in his account, he makes it , then you can either pick it up from him at Moonta or organise for it to get to Adelaide. Mine's been sitting over there since August, so gonna pick it up at Xmas when I go to Wallaroo. Hopefully be able to fill it a few times over Chrissie.

Bishy reacted to Des in Bag of Gold on a Low Tide
I did want to fish on Sunday. I had a plan! But the forecast was for a big blow coming through on Sunday. Forecasted to bring with it some hail & thunder in case just strong winds don't put you off your fishing. Hey and lighting too, which makes me scurry. Me the highest object protruding skywards on the sandflats, complete with a graphite super conductor in my hands and feet immersed in water. And golfers thought it was dangerous! So the obvious change of plan saw me go fishing today (Saturday). My plan was to fish the bottom of the tide. Yes! Chasing goldbars at the bottom of the tide. Sundays low tide was a fairly high for a low tide!!! at 1.09mt. You see you can do rather well on the Yellow Fin whiting around the dodge tide. It is then that water sits on some prime feeding ground for extended periods. And no big run in tide to disperse the fish far and wide. Fish are all compliant and concentrated on the feeding ground waiting for you to hook them! (My theories!)I have previously fished this spot, with soft sand full of nipper holes, on a few occasions. I always picked up some good fish there at the bottom of the tide. So the idea was to find an extended period for the "bottom of the tide" Which would be around a dodge. Well Saturday proved to be the next best thing with a 0.85mt low tide.Yes the plan worked! Caught my bag of 20. Sizes are 30 - 40cm. I only released one fish under 30cmThey took some angling. At the bottom of the tide these fish are not voraciously feeding. They are grazing. A nibble here, a peck there, a sniff here and a poke there. They are trying to sniff & poke out a nipper or two on this patch. When the tide is running they tend to grab most worm baits going past. So today they had to be enticed into a bite. I started with a very light single hook rig with a small ball (00) slipped down the trace to the long shank hook. It was not long before I was missing a lot of bites. The fish were biting tentatively and the size 4 Gamakatsu was not connecting up as usual. I went down to a #6 with better results. The tide is not moving your bait or bringing the fish to you. You need to cast and retrieve with a slow steady constant retrieve. You need to attract the fish's attention by moving your bait and you need to cover a lot of ground to find the fish. Retrieve & recast in another direction/area. Pretty soon you will feel the tap, tap, tap, of a tentative YFW bite. Or rather an inquiry. No not their normal THWACK! when the tide is running. To convert a tap into a tug or bite bait placement on the hook is important. Always have a tail of worm of your hook. YFW do not 'Bite" they suck. And they can suck aggressively. Now some role playing. How can you suck in a strand of spaghetti if all you can mouth is the bottom of the spoon. Have a bit dangling of the end so that you can latch onto it and you will suck the lot off the spoon. Like wise allow the YFW to have a suck of the tail to draw the hook into it's mouth. I use a whole worm on a hook and feed it down to create more tail as it is bitten off.The bigger fish are attracted to these feeding spots in these conditions. I lost a few good fish today. Mainly pulled hooks as they are biting tentatively and are mainly lip hooked. An occasional bust off. Big YFW are incredibly powerful fish for their size. In very shallow water they can easily bust a weak trace that does not have any give in it. I did manage a couple at the 40cm "Goldbar Standard"I will be back for those biguns! possibly with some trout hooks and an altered rig. Just to make sure they get swallowed and properly hooked!Cheers, Des

Bishy reacted to Reeve in Tsk tsk Don't be stealing them snails.
Went down to second valley for a fish this afternoon, caught nothing and so did everyone else except one lady on the rocks. This little lady looked like it was Christmas time on the rocks. Had a plastic bag 2/3rds the way full off these snails, i'm not sure of the breed, if anyone can help me out that would be good. I approached her asked her if she knew quota and sizes etc, she said yes she did, i asked what they where, she says " oh i don't know" told her i doubt the bag limit is a plastic bag. she went back to her group with the bag, about 10 minutes later they left with an empty plastic bag but she had a handful of the snails, why she was carrying them i have no idea.,I thought it was a win. Anyway when we left we went up the same track and half way up the hill was the pile of snails, photo included. Like really, if ur gonna take something, fine but just wasting it?? I really dislike like a certain demographic of people that have 0 care for our fisheries. -Rant over.

This makes me sssoooo mad! I just wish that fisheries would bring in length limits on things like flatties and bream as well. Outrages me to see baitos taking huge breeding fish 'just cause'. Some sustainability needs to be implemented in this state, like nsw, Vic, and well any other state!

Put in a few hours tonight off the yak. I made the most of the break in the weather and fished a metro spot a few hundred metres off the beach this evening. Got one run at 7:30 and hooked a good fish. Went on a great first run and took me a while to turn its head. Eventually had it next to the yak and netted my PB Yak snapper. Went just over 80cm.
