I watched a cool Nova doco tonight on cuttlefish called Kings of Camouflage I thought I'd share with everyone, it has aussie footage, I reckon some may be from SA and a marine biologist that deserves an award for saying "can't be buggered" in a scientific documentary In7n590GjxU

So I use a few different braids.Suffix (not sure what type, was cheap) 6lb on a Saros 1000, I have had lots of air knots and at times it seems to twist and wrap around the end guide. About to replace due to air knots taking line every time I use it. Same category as the cheap fireline. 18 months old.Power Pro 4lb on a Saros 1000 - love it, long time. no issues yet. 12 months old.Power Pro 10lb on a stradic 2500 - Worked really well as a combo. sensitive, strong and easy to cast very light tackle. 3 years old. Power Pro 20lb on a stradic 4000 - No issues with the knots. 1 big mystery knot appeared and I did lose about 50m of line. more my fault then the line itself. 12 months old.Power Pro 30lb on a stradic 5000 - Never had an air knots or wrapping on guides. knots hold well. 2 years old.Power Pro 30lb on Calcutta 400 - Never had an issue with it. Casts well. 5 years old.Power Pro 50lb on a baitrunner 6500B - love it. No issues. 5+ years old.Tuff XP 50lb on a Okuma Vsystem 80 (sold about 12 months ago) - Great casting line. Would use it again, no mystery knots appeared. would be about 8 years old.Platypus (bulk from the tackle store) 30lb on a baitrunner 4500B - Never had an issue with it. would be 5 years old minimum. Fireline 30lb on a Diawa CY4000 - don't like the reel or the braid. Is a spare reel for friends for casting metals. hardly used but about 7 years old.if nots are slipping trying different ones, the FG/FJ knot is what lots of my friends are tying and I am starting to use. I haven't used the 8 strand braids, yet.

Wishing, the knot in the pic works well with thicker lines i've found.Anything thinner than about 15lb mono and i finish the knot off by putting the tag end through the loop instead. Also, make sure you pull all 4 lines to tighten, then just the main lines to seat it; you'll need to pull it almost hard enough to snap the knot if you wanna trim real close!

The knot being tied well is certainly important' date=' what type of knot you use is up to you and personal for some...I've tried the double blood, uni to uni, slim beauty, improved albright and bristol and settled on the bristol as my favourite; It's very strong, easy to tie (even with cold hands at night,) and has a nice low profile that slips through the guides almost effortlessly!Pic for reference:[img']http://i.imgur.com/MyHC2z7.jpg[/img]Dab some superglue on the finished knot and make sure the leader is long enough to wrap around the spool 4-6 times and you're golden!

I have been using Tufline for most of my larger reels for general boat fishing duties. 15lb yellow or red on my 3000 and 4000 size spin reels and 30 and 50lb for bottom bashing and jigging. Never had a knot problem with either fluro or mono leaders and always use an FG knot first up and a double Uni or slim beauty if I need to retie due to a bust off. Have re spooled one or two reels with Power Pro, but just like the feel and performance ofnTuffline more

I like power pro and fireline, but my favourite braid is cortland which I got from the US, the best abrasion resistance of any braid I've used. I also just got some jerry brown line to back up my heavy surf reels but I haven't had a chance to put it to the test. After a fish I usually just give my reel a rinse with the garden hose on the mist setting, tighten the drag right down so water doesn't get in there but make sure to back it off before putting it away. I like to run a full 300yd spool on my reels when I can, get at least three years of heavy use and then reverse it and get another three years or more.

I posted this under the story on the adelaide snapper and fishing facebook page and i stand by it. People are cracking the shits with this guy catching and keeping a species when is legally allowed to do so on the one hand yet the WA government has issued a kill order on Great Whites Sharks, a protected species WORLDWIDE, because a few people were attacked by sharks over a number of years whilst they were entering their territory, primarily surfers which look like a Great White's natural prey.I'm not necessarily condoning him killing the Tiger shark but he is legally allowed to do so, what he does morally is up to him at the end of the day.If u want to get upset about needless shark slaughter then direct it towards the senseless culling of Great Whites, in my opinion brought about mainly by the media playing on peoples fear of sharks, particularly Great White sharks. My two cents worth.

Cant really recommend anyone as iv never used a marine upholsterer but if getting a rocket launcher fitted becomes an issue you could always tackle it yourself, I bought mine for around 150, its the type that clamps to your canopy not deck mounted. Theyre fairly universal just gotta cut the horizontal tubes to the right length, which I would recomend using a plumbers tube cutter because it heaps neater. Took about an hour but there was two of us doing it which was heaps easier.

Mate, is the Haines a runabout or does it have a cab of sorts?I redid my canopy/clears last year and also have a rocket launcher on my runabout. If you send me your email I send ya some pix of my set up. Trust me when I say I’m “thrifty”, I can give you details of the guys that did my work, its good and well priced, but on the south side of the CBD.I’ve been in a very nice boat let down by some clears done by Days road, the owner curses them every time he goes out in rough weather.Having said that, clears have a life span , I reckon my mates my be well past there date

Ay mate I suggest ya just go and buy a good set of rocket launchers from a boat supplier ( 316 stainless steel ) which makes the rear of your canopy , from there a good upholster should be able to finish the rest . There is one over here at Napperby the only problem is he is a bit slow .

Hey ppl, @wishing2Bfishing, I`d recommend either centre punching the pin or using Loctite to avoid a repeat of that "rookie mistake" as you put it. Never had a problem in over 50 years of fishin` doing either of the above. Cheers.
