If we all leave a place better than we found it imagine the world we'd live in. Personally I feel if you stay or camp somewhere you could not only clean up your own mess, but help clean up after those too stupid to consider it themselves. If others happen to spot you helping clean another site after someone has left then maybe it'd have a ripple effect. I know it has on me. Ignoring rubbish is almost as bad as leaving it yourself.

Man, I think Snook away from rocks and jetties and that is about thinking outside the box.You can go trolling around in the hopes of discovering a school, this works. For a "make them come to you" session, here's what I find works;Get yourself into Tommie and Gar mode! Nice surface slick of oil and grain. Then as miraculously happens, the tommies & or Gar appear outta nowhere. Sometimes even slimey macks or whatever. This is fun fishing in itself right, unwieghted or floating gents and yer into a good bread n butter sesh.Stick a big rod down cos wherever this action is goin on, you never know if a snapper or 10 are close by a squid jig on a handline ready to go too if a squadron of Squidlies Cruz through!!!!This is the set up that once established and underway is going to produce SNOOK! Many people won't even notice them unless they pull in half a gar or they are really fired up and start getting airborne :woohoo: So when all is going well, grab yer pre rigged soft plastics rod with a 4" minnow and work it at the back and edges of the burley hungry Tommie n Gar......SMASH! THUD! JESUS those snook hit a lure hard!!!! My old man uses a very fine wire trace to avoid getting SNOOKED too frequently, but man they are fun what ever way you go.I find them the hardest fish to land.... They get boatside and are then absolute bastards for chomping through leader hahaha! GOTTA LOVE THOSE SNOOOOOOK!

Converting because they are given in an old datum. If you enter a AGD66 mark in a GPS set on WGS84, it's going to be wrong.Likewise, if you enter a AGD66 or WGS66 mark into Google Earth (which uses WGS84), the position it gives you will be wrong. If a GPS unit can handle the datum in question, it can convert between them.

I love Port Rickaby, plenty of Gar and Squid off the jetty. Never caught KGW off the jetty itself but have from barkers rocks and also YFW, ST's and Flathead (altho no legal lizards... yet!). There's lots of reef to fish off also when the tides right. Hopefully going there this weekend actually

what about the theory that artificial reefs form a place for the fish to congregate and thus make them "sitting ducks" for us recs and the pro's.Stupid to think there is no truth in my statement, why else do we all want "our own drop".

There is some really good information here regarding Catch and Release and handling procedures. Even if you're planning on keeping your fish it doesn't hurt to make a habit of good handling practices.http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/saltwater/catch-and-release

I agree with Jack that financially if you're realistic about your boat there's no excuse about not getting out. I paid $1800 for an old fibre glass 14.5ft bellboy baracuda with a 25hp forward steer and its a fantastic boat and really easy to launch. Does just over 40kmph when its flat calm. People that spend tens of thousands on a boat aren't eligible to claim that they can't afford to use it... I think its just the silly season rush and work that's been keeping the ramps quiet. It's going to be CRAZY in 2 weeks time!

These are probably the hardest weeks of the year for most people to get out and it has been a bit breezy. One plus of being so flat out at work the past few weeks (knowing I don't have time to head out) is sanding and repainting the boat trailer at night all ready for its first season with me at the helm and hopefully my first Schnapps!

Drove down there after work this arvo, done it during low-tide. Got 900 between 3 in about an hour and a half - just using out hands and feet. Occasionally thought we were onto a cluster to find out it was a sand crab haha. The last half hour was crazy none of us even had to move just stayed in the same spot with our feet in the same holes and they came to us. About 1 in every 20 was under-size, so many biggins! 1st time ever doing it, me, the mrs and her friend had fun. Chips and vinegar on the way home, a wicked way to start the weekend I say.... Now to use up all these damn cockles! I'll be giving half a away to get rid of them all before I'm ready for a trip next year :silly: P.s. been trying to convince the misses to cook some up and try them to eat - no luck though... she eats scallops, muscles, oysters, snails and frogs legs but wont try a damn cockle! Guess that means more bait for me though

Taking the mrs and one of her friends so that'll get my numbers up but I wont have heaps of time and really just doing it more for the experience. I reckon I paid something like $18 for 1kg of cockles last year (from Ards) for bait so It wouldn't take many to pay for the fuel there... plus sunshine, beach and beer - I can't think of anything better really

I use baskets, others use onion bags, but you will need something to put the cockles into while doing runs back and forth to your esky.Put enough saltwater into the esky to cover the cockles, and keep them cool.I no longer bother since the new limits were introduced. Like yourself, I live out the northern side of town, and it's a bl**dy long drive from where we are.....we'd eat that many and still have none for bait.My suggestion, if'n you're gonna do it, borrow all the neighbours kids for the day, to gain extra collecting hands (300p/p).Dont forget, 35mm minimum size! And if you're splashing around in the shallows there........that water gets bl**dy cold, hence the wetsuits! Another tip, always face towards the waves, coz turn your back and you're gonna get swamped. If you purge them properly first, they aint just bait either. Chopped fresh garlic, chopped fresh chili, a coupla spoons of chili/garlic sauce, put the lid on until they open, discard any which dont open:

If you like Penn then go with your reel you suggested, but i would not use the diawa. doubt it weights up correctly. try the Penn 5120 at around 10 foot 6 i think. As a few others have said it comes to personal preference and how many gold coins you want to part with.I use the Baitrunners as my bait rod/reel combo. 6500b on my 6120, and a 4500b on the 4120. for banging lures a stradic 5000 on my 9ft 4 piece revolution turve, the 5000 mainly for the fast retrieve speed.ill be honest and say for fishing reels i'm a shimano snob, but I have a couple CY Diawa and 3 Okuma Vsystem reels. Rodworks, Penn Sports and texalium livefibre Rods sneak in to my collection to.THe penn reel you mention is heavy but bullet proof. a lot of people on here love them but they arent for me - hence my previous statement "it comes to personal preference"Jinkai or Black Majic for leaders.in terms of mono it will depend on if you actually want stretch or not. the platypus super 100 is what i used becasue i liked some stretch - until a bit battle with a ray stretched the hell out of it. to the point it didnt fit on the reel. AS someone mentioned i do like the Trilene. i use 50lb on an overhead combo.Sorry about my random comments through out.All the best and Enjoy your fishing.
