  1. This topic is a good read for all the wrong reasons, but it's funny.

First few times ever out in the Tinny I did all the classic mistakes of leaving the bung plug out, flooding the engine and chucking several 360s with the tiller steer in the first bit of swell I hit leaving North Haven marina. :o

Have certainly had my share of falls on the OH rocks. A long time ago on a walk back from the end I tripped and launched myself airborne down the rocks smashed my elbow and side. Fortunately the fall was partly broken by landing on a heavy duty rod, RIP my friend. Not so long ago I tripped backwards and ended up head first into a crevice with my legs poking out the top, was definitely a slow motion moment as I was falling waiting for the blow to the head to come. Fortunately my shoulder bore the brunt of that one and I only had a few scrapes and bruises after freeing myself from my rocky hole. I have had part of a rock wall give way on me and gone with it into the Port River, just bruised ego and wet legs this time. And lastly had a rock wobble at the waters edge and tried to jump to a near rock but lost my feet and slipped into the Port River, again, this time with a few barnacled rocks slowing the slide. This only got a little bit infected.  :(

  2. Good luck mate. Sounds like a nice little challenge you've set yourself. Watching with interest. :)

Read or watched somewhere that some HB lures are designed so they swim better with the split ring and by removing it you change/stuff up their action. Just something to think about. ;)

  3. yeah especially on a pencil float with 8lb mono off the rocks.. and quite a ledge to lift it up.. i climbed down and tried to swing it up onto a semi submerged rock.. then  snapped the line.  ended up grabbed  her by my bare hands and throwing her up on the rocks.   luckily didint get spiked.

she put up a pretty decent fight thats for sure!

gotta be one of my favourite table fish... tasted fantastic :D

Epic! Would've been a sight for sure. Big fan of Flathead on the plate too. :)

  4. While early morning fishing/squidding off the rocks at Memory Cove with my son about 10 years ago we noticed a strange shape buzzing around in the water near our feet, pops its head up and its a Little penguin. Cool to see, but it gets more weird..... It susses us out for a few minutes then scrambles out onto the rocks and stands with us! In fact it stood right between us. "What is it doing Dad?"  Well as I don't do penguin I guessed at it either being ill or it was mightily lost and confused and thought we were big penguins! My 10 year old daughter joined us on the rocks and was so excited to see this beautiful little creature and as all kids like to do she wants to pat it. I said there is no way it will let you and as all kids like to do she proved me wrong! Obviously we didn't want to overly interfere with this creature, and once she had touched it and proved me wrong we left it to own devices and we fished on. It would occasionally have a swim and then get back out and hang with us again. Weird as! We finished up and as soon we left the penguin jumped in and I thought that was that.... Glanced back once, and then twice, and on the second occasion watched in amazement as a sea eagle swooped down from behind where we were standing and plucked our little friend from the water and carried it off to the other side of the cove. Without a word I walked on hoping to god that my daughter wouldn't look back, but of course she did, and then we got "wow Dad look at that big bird"... "oh what's it got, it's carrying something".... "on nooo the penguin Dad, it's got the penguin"!!! That's when you do your best explanation of that's how nature works, blah, blah, blah, but obviously that doesn't help a small person who has just lost her new favourite animal in the world, ever!!!

That year we were unlucky enough to come across many dead emus on the drive in to Memory Cove, a dead seal on the beach and the loss of our little friend. We renamed it Memorial Cove that year!

  5. I'm hanging for a freshwater trip that's being planned for the near future, so my first thought is you should drive through the hills and down to Mannum. Missus will be happy with the scenic drive and location, and you get to fish, fish and fish! ;)

  6. Hi All,

Just wondering how people manage their reel / line between session - I was thinking of buying a small swivel that can fit through the smallest eye on my rod so that I don't have to cut the line after each session.

Does anyone else do this, or is the amount of line you lose by cutting after each session negligible compared to the potential weakness introduced by having an extra breaking point in the line?

Definitely don't want to be running swivels through your guides, however small.

    What are you fishing for???

  7. Hi guys, I'm just wondering what size hooks you guys use when chasing carp? Also, what bait do you use and how do you present it on the hook? A couple of photos would be very handy.

    Thanks guys

This set up will catch you Carp, unfortunately ;) . Owner Mutu size 4 light circle hook with a small running sinker to the hook.
