Every beach will have fish, just pick one nearby and have a go!

If you want any further advice it would help to have some more info, such as...

    Where are you located?

What species of fish are you looking to catch?

What sort of gear are you planning to use?

I have a pair of "Fish" from BCF... pretty damn good for the price. I can't justify spending $100's on a pair of sunnies.

I can't compare any brands but use Spotters myself, they're pretty good but aren't all that comfortable, I purchased online so didn't try them on. Glass lenses all the way if you can.

Teamed up with Tristman and Jetman ,and went out for a squid session at point riley this morning launched the bertram with a strong easterly blowing but flat seas which put a smile on my dial.perfect for squidding .

arrived at the squid hole/ledge with only 3 pro's on it no verbles exchanged which was good .sounder was showing a lot of squid not bulling but thick.

jigs hit the water working in close around the 10 ft mark and drift out , bang ! instant action  with 6 biggies on board ,time for another drift,on the second drift i noticed that a lot of squid was on the follow and the pro's were going quite so we managed to pull the squid of them, as they were all anchored on the bull  ,anchored up and they left, had the bull to ourselves now, 6 drifts over the bull and ...

and one quote of good sized squids,

prepare your squid ,i like mine tenderised as it takes on the flavours better and easy to chew on.

i only cook in salt water  from the sea ,so best to grab some mineral salt water. sterilise your jars ,you can use tablets but boiling water will do.

gather your spices i like to change it up in every jar.

only boil your squid in salt water .do not rinse with fresh just strain and let it cool so you can handle it

vineger and salt water only in the mix ,and if you pack the jars while the meat is warm it gives the jars that air tight pop when you open them to feast like a king ...https://youtu.be/BmMz3ift--Q cheers JAYMAN.

Have been taking a few seasoned reco's out for fishing session over the past few years and some not knowing certain knots to connect[. and though i would put this one up as one of the best knot's to connect braids/lines to your swivels, lures etc.. all recos should have a wide variety of knot tying skills and the palomar will impove you catch rate especially when it comes down to braided lines being connected to swivels,attachment=20185:20150222_102616.jpg] hope this one helps a few reco's , and i would mainly use on your bait rigs ,cheers

How my times have you taken a bag of cockles out for a session to then re-freeze most? Get them out for another trip and then repeat the process, only to find they have become the consistency of snot and fall of the hook?

Sure you could use them for burley or even chuck 'em in the bin. However with a bit of time and a bag of salt you can salt your own to further use as bait.

Why would you? They are much tougher holding on the hook more effectively, don't slime your fingers up and will last several re-freezes well. Plus you save a bit of money (cockles aren't cheap these days) and less wastage. They 'rehydrate' pretty quickly, so the fish don't seem to mind either.

    1. Empty the cockles on to bunch of newspaper and leave to drain for a couple of hours (I do it on the laundry floor, depends on the temperature, flys, dogs, missus ect)

    2. Pull the 'meat' out of the shells and spread them out on fresh newspaper. Leave for a couple of hrs again.

    3. Pour granulated salt on fresh newspaper and roll the cockles until they are roughly coated and spread them out evenly and leave for several hours or overnight. This may take 1/2 to 1 cup or more salt. (im also trialing salted bloodworm in this pic, from last year's 'metho-ed' supply)

I use a granulated salt as opposed to a fine cooking salt or cheap pool salt.

    4. Repeat 3 a couple of more times, with a couple of tablespoons of salt and leave for an hour or so.

    5. By now they should be moist but firm, like a supple piece of leather. Either bag them up and freeze or dry them out further by spreading out on a tray and leaving uncovered in a frost-free freezer for a week or so and then bag up. Good luck with the latter, if the only frost-free one is in the kitchen (like mine)!

hoopsy reacted to plankton in Finally found some fish
Met up today with a mate I haven't fished with for awhile. We met at a local beach to fish the afternoon tide. After a dismal July on the salmon I was really hoping to get into some fish.

Second cast and I was on, felt good to get a bend in the rod, it's been awhile since I've felt that sensation. Just a 30cm fish, but I'd already matched my catch total from last month.

There were definitely some fish around, but they were spread out all over, lots of casts between fish. Over a couple hours I landed about half a dozen, all around the same size. My mate did about the same, and he hooked one fish he reckoned was much better but he dropped it before we got a look.

A really nice afternoon weather wise as well. Looking forward to more fish showing up and some warm Spring conditions.

Got hoopsys problem... Fishing 1lb nanofil with no leeder, and hooked a real good 1, but decided to set the hook a little deeper, just to make sure... Just touched the spool, and it was all over... Stupid!!!
Very unforgiving with no stretch factor!!
Sticking to 2lb leeder I think! Till I get my bad habits under control
