Right - After a little research.I would go with a Juvenile Dusky Morwong (also called Strongie)Matches with the Dorsal and tail fin shape as well as distinctive spotting with white tips on the tail fin. Would also be fairly common in that sort of area.

savage480 got a reaction from Poppa Snake in Temporary commercial crab potting ban along Adelaide's metropolitan beaches
COMMERCIAL fishers have been temporarily banned from using crab pots along the metropolitan coast until the end of April. Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Minister Gail Gago announced the ban, which will stretch from the southern Outer Harbor breakwater to Marino Rocks, starting Thursday.Ms Gago said it was introduced to ease tension between recreational and commercial fishers during the most popular fishing period. But the state's peak recreational fishing body, RecFishSA said the ban did not go far enough.RecFishSA secretary David Ciaravolo said a longer-term solution was needed to ensure recreational fishing for both business and pleasure can continue."This is only the beginning of it. The ban's only temporary and only relates to a small conflict zone, the metro zone," said."I spend a lot of time at the jetties here in Adelaide and I know that people aren't catching any crabs and the professionals haven't caught any since June. We need something that looks toward the future more, that is more sustainable."Ms Gago believes the ban, which includes commercial fishers who use both blue crab and sand crab pots, will reduce conflict between recreational and commercial fishers. She said the South Australian Blue Crab Pot Fishers Association had been receptive to the new ban."Ensuring the state's fisheries are protected is a priority of the State Government - we have some of the best-managed fisheries in the world and we want to keep it that way," she said.During 2005/06, the State Government implemented a similar ban for the same stretch of coast.Last January, it increased the commercial crab fishing area in Gulf St Vincent by more than 65 per cent. The new temporary closure affects less than two per cent of this area.

8/0 gamakatsu circles for me. Have caught undersize (around 35cm) up to the biggins on them. Also often use a two hook sliding rig for large baits, such as whole slimeys / tommies etc.

Firstly, all fish would have to be legal size (if they have one). All fish would have to be caught / supplied by a licensed professional fisherman, no different to any other fish / bait that is sold. The professional fisherman would have to have a way to catch and keep the fish alive all the way to the tackle storeSome species would be terrible to keep alive long enough to sell to fishers - eg garfish.Given the size / cost issues, many species would be cost prohibitive, due to their table value.A possible scenario, would be a haul net fisherman, that catches a large amount of small shitties. They have little market value, are available in large numbers and are hardy enough to attempt to keep alive.Possible but probably not viable at a cost that fisherman would be willing to pay.

My understanding is person can not take over their bag limit no matter what. ie 1 person can take 15 squid / person / day full stop. The boat limit is only there to limit the total number taken from the boat, and therefore limit the number of individual bag limits that are caught. So when you have more than three people on a boat, each person can take a maximum of their bag limit individually, but combined with the other individuals, also cannot take over the total boat limit.Whilst it is granted and accepted that because the boat limit is in place, it doesn't really matter, if all the persons are fishing, in what numbers each individual catches, each person is still not supposed to exceed their own individual bag limit. If someone is not actually fishing, the others are not supposed to exceed their own individual bag limits to make up for that person.

You need to understand' date=' at the end of the day, it is a politician, (Fisheries Minister O'Brien), that will make the decision. He is a politician. He does not care about fishing or recreational anglers. He cares about public perception / votes. That will make the decision for him.Again, most of the mums and dads that take little Johnny down to the beach for a swim and sees a fisherman bring in a [i']'Man Eating' [/i]Shark panics and says this must be stopped. They think the sharks are there because people fish for them and fear one will eat their child. This is the attitude that needs to be changed. They need to be educated about the fact that sharks have always been there and fishing for them or not makes no difference.

Unfortunately Jack, I don't think you need to convince people on this website. I am sure that the members on here know that it is absolute rubbish. The sharks are there regardless of whether people fish for them or not and always have been. The general public just don't like seeing them or thinking about it and want someone to blame for them being there. this is where the poor recco fisherman gets the blame. The problem is, that as usual it will be that vocal minority who yell the loudest and I can see a time coming in the very near future where shark fishing will indeed be banned. This won’t be due to any valid reason or science, just pure political pressure by the uneducated community. The same problem applies to many issues, in that we really have no voice.

My 2 cents:The issue I have is all the money currently paid, as far as taxes to go fishing (petrol, registration, gst, etc etc), goes to the government. They then decide how to what to spend it on. Currently almost none of this goes towards fishing / reaserch etc. Most money that goes to support fisheries comes directly from commercial licence fees, ie user pays. Which is also why they are listened to.I am scepticle to think that the little money gained from a rec licence, in relative terms, will improve recreational fishing.Currently the Govt puts in a mesley couple of million a year. I would think this would also be about the maximum that a rec licence would make. This would see the Govt then reduce their funding altogether, making Fisheries completely cost recovered and wouldn't cost them anything, which is what they want.Until the Govt gets serious and understands the TRUE value and importance of fish as a whole industry and gives Fisheries a decent amount of funding, any improvements will be insignificant.

Not True.So many untruths out there when it comes to commercial fishing. All commercial fishers, be it longlining, netting or any other method have to abide by exactly the same size limits for all species as us reccos.
