  1. Flathead. Number 1 in the sea, yet to find a contest. Panko crumbs, salt & pepper and a minute in hot oil. Garfish - best eating fish in these waters that you can catch reasonably reliably and are even a blast on extra light gear getting double headers. Grab those chicken Shake 'N' Bake bags you get from woolies, chuck yer fillets in there, shake and fry.
  2. Had good success on the STs using Owner Circles on a Daiwa Double Clutch. It does lose a little bit of action but not enough to bother the trouties.
  3. I can't speak for anyone else, but my baitcaster is used exclusively when I am flicking a lure or soft plastics. IMO it's much easier to flick in tight to snags, pylons and other areas where fish hang out.I have an Abu Black Max spooled with 8lb power pro if that's any help to you at all.
  4. Before things go any further in either this or the other thread on this subject, I'd like to remind everyone to keep on topic. If the debate can't be had without getting personal on all sides then the debate won't be had here.
  5. Sorry for speaking the truth and having no faith in our useless fishwatch system. Someone had to tell it how it is. My patience ran out regarding fish thieves years ago. I understand your frustration mate. Any sensible fisho does. I have to deal with the pricks every day at St Kilda, fishing on the wrong side into a sanc zone and taking under size everything. Don't think it pisses me off to the max too? I don't have much faith in FishWatch responding either. The last time I called them they messed me around for 45 minutes before connecting me to a field officer that was out in the middle of t
  6. do they cast okay?Yeah they're alright mate. Can't remember exactly what the weight of the smallest one is, but it casts alright on my light gear. I've got one of all the sizes in the pilchard blue colour. Haven't had a chance to use the bigger ones to target anything yet.
  7. Caught heaps of ST's on the smallest size. Too easy.

  9. Yeah mate or possibly direct from Shimano. We don't keep spools in stock, but we can possibly order them in, provided Shimano sell them separately. Not too sure about other tackle shops around Adelaide.
  10. Hey mate,I just tested this with a Stradic 2500 FI spool an a 3000 Ci4 body and it fit perfectly. I imagine the same would probably be true with the FJ's but I don't have any I can test here.
  11. Flathead, hands down. Perfect for targeting land based with plastics which is my style and hardy so that catch and release is not a problem. Plus, if I do keep a few for the table, there is no better eating fish in the sea IMO.
  12. Hey Hallows, just to let you know but that side of St Kilda is a sanctuary zone and you cannot fish there. The only place that you can fish in St Kilda is off the breakwater on the left hand side.
  13. Finally got out for a fish today! It's been over a month since I last wet a line. Dropped the missus at Uni at 9am and headed straight to West Lakes. No luck there but tonnes of small bream and gar swimming around and a school of huge mullet. Moved to Outer Harbour and spent the rest of the day having fun with trouties, ranging from well under size to 23 - 24cm. All went back in the drink to grow up big and strong. I got one good run on a larger trout that looked to me to be about 30cm, but he spat the hook in the shallows directly between my feet. Was a good fight and I was gonna let him go a
  14. The first fish I ever caught on a lure was a tommy, on one of the little green and blue laser lures.
  15. In all honesty the big Halco's will work just as well, if not better. Really don't need anything fancy to catch a big Salmon, especially around Lincoln and especially when they're on the chew. The Halco Slice's and Twisties have been around for years because they're simple and they work.If you want to do it for something different then by all means, it will work but could be an expensive trip if you get a couple of bust offs.
  16. I see the Twin Power is still going strong Jack. Nice catch!
  17. No worries. They don't tend to snoop around the front where there are nice bright lights, but since my bedroom is on the channel side of the shop I hear them around the back all the time. Sometimes it's just innocent fisho's and that's fine but occasionally I catch people graffing or just being generally suspicious. A few extra cameras and some big bold notices will hopefully put an end to that.
  18. There are already a few cameras installed in St Kilda, specifically one at the entrance to town which captures number plates and a couple mounted high up on the hill in the park. A young man was busted a few weeks back for painting graffiti due to them. Hopefully they install more around the boat ramp/car park and our shop. Sick of getting up in the middle of the night to tell people snooping around to piss off.
  19. Added a photo to the first post for Castens. Good job mate!
  20. Great fish and perfect size mate, congrats because I know how hard you've been working to get one. That one is gonna taste oh so sweeeeet!
  21. I just use an onion bag with a rope tied securely to it. Normally I'll whack a bag of berley (whiting nuts or whatever) in there and stab a few holes in it. Only takes a few minutes to fill up with water and sink and then when you give the bag a shake it releases a nice cloud. I'll also generally chuck whatever old stuff I have in the top. Old pilchards, squid etc. When done you can just throw the lot in the bin and keep the rope, nice and tidy. Works great off jetties as you can tie it just off the bottom and the tide will make a nice long berley slick for you.
  22. I've got all the sizes in the pilchard blue colour. So far not much luck on them, only a few Salmon but that's not the lures fault, it's mine for being lazy! :pThe action on them is really, really distinctive and I could see them being used on just about any predatory fish including Kingies, Mulloway and even small Tuna.
