Benwah got a reaction from David_C in Looking for an ulitmate lure throwing weapon -surf rod
I rate the 10ft. Sensor Surf.
I have mine paired up with the Stradic FJ 5000, balances well.
Perfect for those West Coast salmon.

There are new model Sensor Surfs out.
I have the older one (the $179) I think the new ones come with the K Guides.
I reckon R&A's must still have the old ones, that's where I got my run out Sea-Jigger's.
Daiwa make great rods,i have quite a few.
I reckon you'd be happy with either Sensor's or the heavy Sea-Jigger.
Personally I'd go for the older Sensor for that price.
There's also a couple of recent threads on a national bream forum on expensive (proper expensive) salmon lure casting outfits.

Benwah got a reaction from dylzzz69 in Looking for an ulitmate lure throwing weapon -surf rod
I have two of the older model Sea-jiggers the light & the medium , haven't used the heavy.(bought cheap as discontinued stock)
Agree with Plankton on Daiwa overating their cast weighs.
I generally throw 28gm. with the L (3000 reel) & 40gm. with the M. (4000 Reel)
I reckon the Sensor Surf balances the best with the 5000 {60-85gm.). It can also be used for lighter baits & sinkers, bit stiffer than the Sea-jiggers & a fair bit cheaper,
But the heavy Sea-jigger would probably suit too, depends how much you want to pay.
I use my Sea-jiggers for Metro. & Fleurieu beaches & the Sensor Surf for the bigger West Coast fish.
Not much help sorry.
Just my experiences.

Benwah reacted to mshillab in How's your winter fishing been going so far?
Hi guys,
Got a bucket load of ST's, a few mullet and one 60cm (from memory) mully from inside the coorong opposite hindmarsh island. It was our first time down there we packed the swags, some wood, chucked it in the boats and set up camp. what a great spot! but man it was cold haha! Then more recently down salt creek, crossing at 42 mile and heading north. got only a couple of salmon, a couple soapies, a 4ft wide melbourne skate that had me chasing it a quarter mile down the beach (cooking and fishing dont always go hand in hand, any longer before checking the reel and I wouldve been spooled)!. But to top it off was a 73cm mully, almost brought a tear to my eye releasing that one back out to the surf! Ive managed a couple legals before and let a third go so no biggy but was pretty keen on a feed that trip! heading down again this weekend who knows maybe he's grown another couple cm's and will make the 3rd addition to my oven! Love fishing this time of year!

Benwah got a reaction from bjorn2fish in Show us your salmon lure flicking setup or dream setup
I've got three.
Depends where I'm fishing, generally use the heavier setups on the WC.
10ft. Sensor Surf with a 500FJ & 20lb. Sunline Super PE.
10ft. Sea Jigger with a 4000FJ & 15lb. Super PE
& for local beaches a
10ft. 6in. Sea Jigger with a 3000 Ultegra HG running 10lb. Power Pro.
Love em all, depends on the conditions & the fish to which I use.
All older model rods.
Guess I subscribe to the Shimano rods are no good too.

G'day
If you want to go trawling for snook, you'll need a setup like this
If however you want to go trolling for snook, follow the advice above

Benwah reacted to sbarnden in Twisted Dropper Loop
Did a short video on tying a twisted dropper loop. I find it's good for stopping your hook links from tangling around the main line for paternoster rigs.
Because its quite stiff if can also be used with the 'drop shotting' technique I wrote up about before, particularly if you put some heat-shrink tube over the twisted dropper-hook connection.

I was having the same problem with the Improved Albright.
Switching to the Slim Beauty did the trick for me.

Benwah got a reaction from t1ppo in Shimano replacement parts
You can order parts over the phone to Shimano Australia,
just look up the reel schematics & get the part #,
delivery I think is only 5 or 10 bucks.

Benwah got a reaction from Ale in Is there such a beast ?
I ended up buying a Catalina Nabura 67S this morning. Balances perfectly with the Stradic 4000, can't wait to load it up.
Thanks everyone for your help. ($1 under budget too)

Benwah got a reaction from Nellay1 in Barkers Inlet
Had a crack for a couple of hours this morning.
Went for a bit of a look around, launched @ Largs Marina (thought they'd have wash down facilities, wrong).
Just pulled up in a random spot near the Speed Boat Club. Burleyed up & was getting hits straight away. Switched to smaller lures (Duo Tetra Works Bivi) & caught 1/2doz. Salmon Trout, couple of undersize gar & whiting. (all on the Duo which was a first for me).
Then took the paint off the bottom of the motor on the way in, in the mud.
Was a beautiful day out.
