Tinker got a reaction from kbnrs in need braid suggestions
Go to your local tackle shop and get them to spool up some 4 or 6lb Fins braid.I recommend getting them to do it because they can lay backing and ensure the line goes on at the right tension needed. This will stop air knots and birds nests, and other headaches.Getting backing put on means you won't have to fill the spool with braid, which will save you money.$40 should be enough.

Went down the Onk for a flick today.....after putting together a lot of advice from the guys on this forum, I managed to snag my first Mulloway it went 68cm, I was really stoked....I then managed to get my biggest ever bream 38cm...she swallowed to 6/0's no worries. Was about to pack up and go home when the left hand rod screamed off again....another Mully !....couldn't believe it, slightly smaller than the last, 63cm. All in all a great day for me. I don't understand how I get my photos from my camera onto the post...but I will have a crack. cheers.

My best from the lakes is only 38cm. But when I started my bream on lure fishing back in 99 I'd normally get 40cm+ fish from the port and like someone else said when squidgies first came out I was getting maybe five between 40-50cm a sesh. My biggest went 54cm trolling the smallest size stump jumper in pink and purple along the edge of the fishermans market wharf. Spewing couldn't afford a camera back then (was only 14) and no phone cameras either!

Hey mate it definatly pays of to go get some livies before ya head down there. Either some salmon trout, tommies or mullet like you said. We catch ours of Semaphore jetty using pillies. As for the mulloway, I got my first one out the lake last night (still cheering ) on a small tommie ruff with a single hook through his back and a pretty light running sinker. Hope that helps Rat

The only time I have heard of massive Bream 50cm or more being caught was from the Coorong many years ago, but I am not sure they were as big as 55cm.Can Bream even get that big, considering the amount of fishing pressure they would get by commercial fishos in the Coorong, and recreationals in West Lakes??Knowing that a Bream that big would be something like 40 years old, do they even live that long??A 55cm Bream would most likely end up in a fishing mag brag board or website somewhere in this digital age almost as soon as it was caught, guaranteed. So the best bet these days Alex, unless you see the proof, don't believe the hype.Steve

Never been spiked too deeply yet from a flattie, so haven't suffered the intense pain that others might have. However I have heard of a rumour that if you smear the guts from the flathead you have caught over the wound, that this is supposed to alleviate the pain.I think I read that in a fishing book somewhere.Other members might have more info.

Buying rods online is dangerous, I like to hold and bend my rod before forking out the cash. Not to mention, the savings found online with rods often gets dissolved in the added freight cost.

Tinker got a reaction from Squid Flaps in Instinct fluro carbon
I have used the Instinct flouro, and I think it's not too bad. If you are on a budget then I would recommend it, just don't over stress it.Word of warning on the Instinct swivels though, I have had a few swivels fail in some tense moments, often they have broken in the barrel, which had me swearing in seven different languages because each time I had lost good size fish. Most of the other Instinct brand stuff is fairly good quality.Instinct Blades are a good example, I only bought them because they were selling 5 for $20, and so far they haven't disappointed me. And being cheaper means I don't turn into Captain Caveman when I snag them up.Steve

Fished the jetty at Moonta (a first for me) on Monday night after picking up some car parts in the area.Plenty of tommies around and put together a nice bag of squid over the course of the night. Also hooked a couple of massive doggies which I wasn't able to hoist up onto the jetty (gotta take a crab net to land and unhook them next time)

There hasnt been a quick trip report for ages so heres one.... Went out today With Leigh chasing ST's and possible squid down the stones at Hallet Cove this arvo.. Got out there and the water was flat. Threw some burley out and we had fish everywhere... spent 2 and a half hours catching and releasing BIG tommies and legal Trouties with a few small ones mixed in... was an awesome arvo and was good to be out on the water..Between us we got 30-40 fish and probably dropped just as many...They were taking all sorts of lures and plastics... So if your needing bait or even a feed get down there... You would easily bag out if using bait but whats the fun in that...

Spotted this in the 'Tiser today (check top right of the picture):Bloody hell - that's getting into Flathead territory. In any case, I can buy it from a reputable fishmonger down Royal Park way for less than half of that. Now you know why Coles can offer a 16c a litre discount on their petrol... :S

Hi Steve, only hooked up to one callop didn't feel very big but lost it a few seconds after hooking it unfortunately. The appealing part to me with the lures was the fact of them being interchangable with different parts being added to the lure depending on the fish or water being fished.
