David_C got a reaction from Tinker in Be careful tackle rats
Agreed - but David Yates retired in December following his stroke. I do miss having some good chats with him as well - but he seems to be recovering really well
I definitely support that tackleshops that support my business as well and I also appreciate the support that I get from the general public.

I just dry in newspaper until they start to bleed, then straight into bags and the freezer. When I defrost, I just put some paper towel in the bag to ensure they don't go soggy - works a treat

David_C got a reaction from Yorky in People taking undersized fish
They already have a stack of info available on jetties, online, phone apps, etc - so there is really is no excuse.
If they really wanted to be sure, the only way to really do it is send out material to every household in SA.
Then they need to enforce the limits, with appropriate fines and forfeits, not the little nothing fines that don't do anything. Word will spread in all communities very quickly and things will change pretty quick as well. No excuses and no cautions. This will then pay for more fisheries officers.
Personally, I wasn't brought up in a fishing family and self taught when I was around 13/14. So it can be done and currently use my role in the sector to educate as well, particularly as not all my customers have english as a first language. I also deal with a number of single mums who are trying to get their kids into fishing but have no idea about what to do. It's great seeing some of the results they are getting as well. As I say to them, you don't need expensive gear to get results - but you have to care about what you are catching, as it's a finite resource that we need to look after.

David_C got a reaction from Meppstas in More resignations as Whetstone’s fishing council sinks
Hi all
We don't seem to have a MRFAC tab, so have just put this under general.
Just received a PDF copy of a media release, given to us from the ANSA president about an hour ago, sent to our fishing club

More resignations as Whetstone’s fishing council sinks
There have been multiple resignations from the Marshall Government’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council.
The Opposition has been told that four Council members have resigned from the Council, which is the responsibility of Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone.
The members who have resigned represented a range of fishing organisations including RecFish SA, South Australian Fishing Alliance and FishinSA.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Giles Eddie Hughes
The startling number of resignations proves once again that the Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council has been a complete failure.
When the Minister created his own hand-picked Council he undermined the importance of having an independent recreational fishing voice in SA.
The establishment of the Council is just one of many bungles in the fisheries portfolio.
The state-wide ban of snapper has also created great financial hardship and stress.
It is clear the Minister is out of touch when it comes to both recreational and commercial fishing in South Australia.

Personally not a fan of the MRFAC (just another committee) but not sure if SAFA has resigned.
However I'm led to believe John (someone) has resigned.

David_C reacted to AuusieDave in Thunder Heat Elite Shark DeHooker
I generally use a 30lb trace which ensures toothy critters tend to bite me off pretty quick as I don't really want to be landing anything too big and toothy in my yak, especially in SA.
Don't worry mate, if your talking about SWR in March, I had no issues up there last year as the sharks that took my mackerel lines with wire traces were only reef sharks to about 5 foot. I'm sure there's some bigger ones around, in fact this one Shane caught was a reasonable size.

David_C reacted to finatic in tuna oil
Carps, we have 100% tuna oil, was fortunate enough to stitch up a deal & secured 400litres from Port Lincoln recently, when its gone its gone, don't be fooled by labels suggesting the same coz it simply is not available. If you see "Tuna Oil" in bottles & it has distinct layers of different colours in it, beware coz "Oils ain't Oils" most are blends. You could be about to pay $15 or more a litre for Vegetable oil, Canola oil or whatever else they can find cheap to fill the bottle.Even Neptune branded Tuna oil, which has for years been 100% is now no longer Tuna oil, at least they tell you that though, it's now called Fish oil.Similar story to the "Cockle" thing, somebody else is prepared to pay a whole lot more for the raw product than what the fishos will, so, nil supply to the tackle trade. The health food companies are paying in some cases $30 per litre to sell you fish oil over the counter, Omega 3 at its best.Finatic

I hope this ok to post admin . My family gave my a $50 BCF card for Xmas . Off I headed in Boxing Day signs saying 20 percent off on all hard body lures . Picked up a laser double clutch and some leader . Off I go to pay they ring it through give me the price . Me is that with the 20 percent off the lure umm no they fixed it . Thinking I should’ve bought two lures doesn’t matter . That night I get an email from BCF $10 off any purchase must be used before Monday . Off I go grabbed another laser double clutch go to pay again using the BCF card . Young lady gives me the price is that with the $10 off yes and the 20 percent off umm no . Yes they finally took it off .
This post is just a warning if tackle shops advertise 20 percent off make sure they actually give you that discount .
Hope it was ok to post .

David_C reacted to yellow door 1 in The Chum Dumper
Yeah when it comes to trying to making money from a device - it needs to have the cheapest components possible, while still offering 100% effectiveness and strength in a saltwater environment.
Plastic and lead are the answer - but asking the right questions is the key to getting it right😉

David_C reacted to yellow door 1 in The Chum Dumper
Yeah I've seen a metal pot with a hinged bottom activated by a vertical steel rod - the rope you lower the pot with is attached to that verticle steel rod - you lower the hole thing gently - then give a sharp tug - the raising of rod, trips a latch that releases the hinged bottom. Ill try to find the vid - I think it was an English shark fisherman who used it - it looked pretty ancient

Well done David on contributing some prizes to the comp without that sort of support these type of competitions will not exist.

David_C reacted to peatop in Scoots
I often watch fishing show on tv and youtube and one that i really like (although in it's last season)is big angry fish, one of the guys has been developing these scoots (as he calls them) basically they are saltwater flys tied onto a sp jighead, these are nothing new they've been around as long as i can remember in on form or another, i bought some tinsel, thread and glue some time ago but kept forgetting to make them until i was watching an episode the other day were they went scoot fishing (no bait).
I pulled out the gear i had bought and some craft supplies i had got from my daughter and proceeded to make a few test ones.
These are what I've made and thought i would share, and ask if anyone has done anything similar for saltwater use?
