bjorn2fish reacted to doobie in O'Sullivans Beach Boat Ramp changes.
FYI for those that use the Sullies boat ramp - immediate effect (18.3.2021)
    Boat ramp launch permit
Important changes at O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp
The City of Onkaparinga has temporarily taken responsibility for operating the O’Sullivan Beach boat ramp.
This is because council has identified concerns about the current operator’s compliance with conditions of the operating agreement.
The council has invited the operators to respond to these concerns.
Once the response has been received, council will review it and make a final decision.
Council is not in a position to provide any further details to the public until the matter has been resolved.
Council is not in a position to provide any further details to the public until the matter has been resolved.
How does this affect ramp users?
The ramp can still be accessed as normal with a launch permit.
Daily launch permits can still be purchased on site, with contract staff available at the ramp to help manage this process.
Launch permits can also be purchased online below.
      What about the kiosk?
Unfortunately, the kiosk is closed until further notice.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the kiosk’s closure.
Until the Kiosk can be reopened, we ask ramp users to ensure they have purchased all necessary supplies before arriving at O’Sullivan Beach.
Is my existing launch permit still valid?
If you are the holder of a Council-branded long-term permit purchased from Council, your permit remains valid.
If you are the holder of a long-term permit or gift certificate purchased from the O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp and Kiosk, please contact the City of Onkaparinga on 8384 0666 and have your permit with you when you call.  These permits will no longer be accepted and a replacement permit issued by Council will be required.  Credit toward a replacement permit may be provided in place of the time remaining on your current permit.

I just received an email like someone of you probably have about new login/ etc for the EPSN tipping/comps.
I clicked the red log-in the email - when the page displays click the Red Play Now button which will send you a code to copy/paste.

    Here's the email info.
We wanted to let you know of some important changes to the way you access your ESPNfootytips account.
From 10/2/2021 your ESPNfootytips account is now part of The Walt Disney Company login system so if you already have a Disney account, you'll be able to login to ESPNfootytips with the same credentials.
Your ESPNfootytips experience won't change - you'll still be able to tip with your friends and family on all your favourite sports, all year round, but emails such as your password reset when you first log in will now come from ESPN.
Unfortunately, some users will be required to select a new display name. If you need help rectifying any account issues you can check our help section here or send us an email.
We therefore strongly recommend logging in to ESPNfootytips today to ensure you can log in and ensure your account is up to date so you aren't scrambling when footy returns.
Please remember to use your email address to login, as your username will no longer be valid. You can find which email address is associated with your account here.
Don't wait until the last minute, make sure your account is ready for footy season today.

bjorn2fish reacted to Soobz in Soobz Ludicrous Lures
Inspired by a frustration of not being able to buy lures in the colours I want (popular = sold out) and also wanting to tweak some designs, and by the need to build something to understand it, I have foolishly picked up yet another hobby.
I was going to start with wooden lures as I'm already set up for those, but the fear of mucking up the paint job on a wooden lure that I've spent hours on I decided to start with blank plastics which are very cheap.
eg. A bent minnow copy is about $2

BTW, it's not a great copy, the Chinese penchant for price ahead of attention to detail means the centre eye is a piss poor screw in so I had to make a new eye, drill a suitable hole and epoxy it in. The surface is not textured like a bent minnow, but I have a solution for that down the track. None of these lures are tuned either.
Anyway, they are good for painting practice. I bought a cheap airbrush, tweaked it a little per youtube and voila I got a semi reasonable result and learned a heap in the process.  I especially learned that the less than optimal epoxy from AMC doesn't flow all that well and despite using a rotisserie and a heat gun it was hard to get a smooth surface.
    So here's the early attempts.

Happy with the yabby. The earlier version I realized was more coloured like a cooked yabby

But perhaps fish like cooked ones too 🤣.
Having enough fun that I may invest in a better airbrush.
I've done a bulk order of crankbaits to practice painting on, which I will likely sell at cost if someone is looking for a specific pattern:

bjorn2fish reacted to snafu in Jetty fire
Got up early this morning to try for a squid or two off the Smoky Bay jetty only to find that it was burning.
Ratbags playing with fireworks last night must have started the fire and it had been smouldering for hours. I rang 000 and the local CFA unit responded very fast, but the damage meant that burnt planks had to be removed making the jetty a safety hazard. Who knows when it will be repaired.

  8. Thanks

Currently, the Kingscote jetty has been closed to the Northern half due to being unsafe.

Not a stone lover but I do love a quality knife, being able to fillet hundreds of fish before having to sharpen your knife is brilliant.
Those sharpeners are great for cheaper softer steel knives, I have one for my bait knives, but they will take chunks out of properly hardened blade and ruin it, I found this out the hard way so thought I'd chuck a warning out there.

the Jarvis Walker deluxe knife sharpener  is a brutal little unit, that will get a knife shaving sharp in a few strokes.

and for $10.50 you can get a sharpener and knife you can shave with.

    Does seem some what conflicting.
I heard the logic from Spurrier (Chief Health Officer) that organised team sports often involve participants that may live in many different areas around Adelaide gathering in one place and therefore risk of geographical spread would be greater. Hope that makes sense and explains the inconsistency.......still seems a bit illogical to me.

After conflicting directions on the government websites I ended up calling the covid infoline regarding a contact sport I participate in. The person on the phone had no idea if we could go back to training legally or not and cited the sport related example that they had been given earlier that morning.
Can you go to basketball training with your team? NO!
Can you go to the local court and play basketball with your mates? YES!
    Fantastic! 🤨

I finally got around to giving one of two of Brayden's hard body lures ( 41mm 4g Brown trout pattern) a go today in the Mersey River in dull overcast conditions and very clear water..
the lure worked a treat picking up a brown & a rainbow trout in quick time.. the fishing was tough today with a low moving in, I did hook and lose two trout on it as well.
They're a great action light weight lure, very impressed with it.. here's a couple of pic;'s..
    cheers
    Adrian...

The brown was the first that fell to the lure..

Then not long after a rainbow was landed..
