  1. Yep, as everyone has said its simply more fun, more challenging and more comfortable of the little 1000 sized reels. I've landed near 3ft carp on a Symetre and 2-6lb rod. Was great fun and a challenge. The only difference I find is if, say I was fishing in the Onk or Coorong or similar and I caught a just legal ST. If I had my 1000 and 4lb line I'd be nervous if a metre plus mulloway steamed off to say the least, while if I had a 2500 with 200 yards of 8lb I'd still be sh!tting bricks but I'd be far more confident in landing it.

In summary, if you have two combo's for inshore fishing, have both and use the 1000 most of the time. If you only have 1 combo, a 2500 is probably more versatile even though it does feel like your winching in <35cm fish.

  2. I think the theory behind 2500 reals being better than 1000 is that they

    A) have greater line capacity incase you hook a monster

    B) the greater the spool width the less loops of line have to come off to get the same length of line off. That means less friction and fractionally longer casting distance.

I still use the little 1000 reels where I can, they are so much fun to use and are nice light.

Don't know about the rods mate sorry.

  3. SA Water? Pretty sure its a French company. Pretty sure if they read this they'd be more like "They have CARP, CARP I TELL YOU! THE HOLY GRAIL OF FISH AND THEY WANT TO CATCH SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!"

"That is it! Lock up there waters 'till not a soul can look at a creek without trespassing, 'till the people can no longer access public land and until we own the rain itself from the moment it has fallen! mwahahaha"

  4.

    Heavy stuff I've been using

    Bimini>Ducknose>Leader>Solid ring>Hook trace

    Light stuff

    Braid>Albright>6ft mono>swivel>hook trace

Sinker always running above the swivel but on mono as opposed to braid as I'm paranoid

What sort of knot is that? "Duck knows".

I had to look that one up. I call that a Bristol Knot from netknots.com. I use that on heavy gear as well to a bimini some of the time. I mostly use a Yucatan knot as "supposedly" it is the strongest bimini braid to leader knot. Both the Bristol and Yucatan are dead easy to tie as well. Slim beauty and albrights are way beyond my capabilty to tie, especially in a rocking boat in the wind.

Yeah I sometimes use a Yucatan as well. I find the ablrbight, Yucatán and Ducknose are relatively similar and I haven't compared the knots to one another thoroughly enough yet to determine which is smaller and stronger. Although the ducknose is very thin so travels through guides well.
  5. What's Bear spray?

Here I was watching movies and documentaries, thinking that Wolves and Bears are some relentless, unstoppable, blood thirsty man eaters and there has only been 1 fatal wolf attack?!!? And you can ward of bears with spray.

Bears always play in the back of my mind when I think about northern north America.

  6. The massive fall in competition from the carp alone should allow natives to grow way faster and hopefully a far greater number of eggs survive rather than being munched on by carp.

Honestly I would love it if the Eastern states and SA could by example and maintain the "correct" environmental flows until periods of drought occur and then we can close her up. We've got to remember the Murray would never have been an overly hospitable place to survive and reproduce due to the highly varied rainfall in Aus. If we can naturalise it just enough then maybe we will see the return of the 250lb cod and 30lb callop of old.
