  1. If you could only pack one setup to do you everything from light bread and butter species right up to large salmon, flatties, mullies etc.

Bearing in mind you might be fishing from a range of terrains and situations using both bait or lures.

Do you have a setup that you could use for most of these situations? If so what is it???

Interested in hearing if you make it possible or you take a couple rods etc....

Only asking as i usually take to much gear then regret taking it as i never use it all....

Congratulations on the new job Southie.

I recognised you in the store from your online S&H avatar and the times I've been in store and were served by you,you were always patient, helpful and informative with my multitude of questions. I'm sure you'll be sorely missed by the store and customers. Thanks mate and good luck for your future work endeavours.

Look forward to those reports.  :439_fishing_pole_and_fish:

    Thanks mate.....

There was purely two reasons why I wanted to be apart of the Fishing industry....

To help others with the knowledge i have obtained over the years and giving customers other techniques or ideas when things weren't working out for them.

Nothing more satisfying then helping a customer with achieving there personal fishing goals and having them achieving them an hour or 2 later and being grateful for taking time to help them out the best way you can.

The second is learning from customers that come in store. Fishing is a wonderful sport where you learn new things everytime and i have learnt alot from customers and i am grateful for that.

I was never in it for sponsorship or competition or to big note myself as I loved my job day in and out but it isnt a job that is for someone that hasnt set themselves up. Casual hours and minimum wage doesn't help me purchase a house and setup my future.

Who knows what might happen later on in life but definitely see myself back in the industry in the future in some form....

Thanks for your kind words mate...

  3. So as some of you know I worked at Fishing Wholesalers for the last 2 and a bit years.

However my last day was on Saturday. I know there are alot of members on here that i have put onto this site that i wasn't able to let know of my resignation as it happened so quick.

So i thank you for being great customers to me.

I am no longer in the fishing industry anymore. I might return to it in a few years time if things go right ;)

However you will now find me in the electrical industry as a storeman in town.

Now to enjoy fishing like i use to without the pressures of the industry ;)

Expect more reports me in the near future!

    The bug is back!

@southie THE BANGA Yeah I'm working all weekend, by all accounts there was a steady stream of vehicles headed our way Thursday night. saw heaps in the shop today but figure we will see more tomorrow. there are still a lot of people who can't get their head around that we are open Good Friday.

Hopefully you'll get out for a fish after the weekend, I know I'm hoping to

  5. Happy Easter everyone!
Who has plans over the long weekend to partake in our fantastic obsession of fishing?
Let us know where you're heading and what you're targeting.
I'd like to second what Doobie said in his Easter fishing report, take care on the roads! Good luck everyone getting that bag, pb or feed you're after.

I probably had easily 80 jags at one stage and all Decent quality to. But there was way to much $$$ Tied up that I wasn't using so they had to go to fund other fishing related items...

  7. There are no right or wrongs in fishing. Everyone has there own tips, tricks, colours for certain situations etc. Working in the Tackle shop you pass on your own experiences and tips and tricks. The customers can take it all in and give it a try or go there own way.

What might work one for some might not work for others and are the fish feeding at that particular time that you are fishing etc....

That is the great thing about places like this and most tackle shops as they are willing to put you in the right direction and help you out to the best of there knowledge.

Again what is the point of selling something if you don't trust the product your selling works, but there are so many factors to consider when it comes to fishing it is what defines a good angler to a great angler knowing what to use at what time. That's where trial and error comes into it and putting many hours in researching and reading the waterway.

    Just my 2 cents

  8. You'll find the biggest colour we sell at the shop is the "Green orange Yellow Jag" which is very active in UV. Uv works as an all rounder as it works on most occasions as it changes with the light conditions. UV is only on brighter colours as it can adapt to light conditions alot better than darker colours....

We have had to Keep up with Extra stock of the Yo Zuri HS jag because I sell what works and have always have positive feedback from that particular colour.

  9. Right so here goes.

This is my personal opinion. Everyone has there own theories or the must have colour.....

However what works for me are 3 main factors.

    Number 1:

Colour choice. It is not so much the colour that I am looking into. I am looking at how much UV properties a certain jig has. Squid are supposedly colour blind so they don't see colours however they see shapes and patterns from shadows and contrasting colours. When any light form hits a UV jag it creates a shadow/pattern that the squid can see easily. Uv Jags work well at night and on bright days..... On overcast cloudy days a dark more neutral colours creates contrast and that is what the squid see.

    Number 2:

Jag Size. I am landbased and alot of my waters i fish are shallower grounds. I believe Jag size is of massive importance. Imagine using an 3.5 jag in shallow waters. It means that it sinks quicker and gets down to the bottom quicker which means that you have to work the jag back faster. On average a 3.0 size jag will have a sink rate of 3 seconds per metre. I use nothing bigger than a 2.5 size jag and go as low as a 1.6 jag in real shallow waters. A 2.5 jag has a sink rate of approx 6 seconds per metre so theoretically the light the jag the longer sink rate time, the more time it is in the water so you can cover alot more water for alot longer.

So use a jag thats going to work in the waters you are fishing.... if you are out deep obviously you wouldn't use an 2.0 jag as the current and the deeper water wont get down to the bottom....

    Number 3:

Make sure you get the jag as close to the bottom as possible without getting snagged. I see it on so many occasions. People have jags under a float and you can see the jig under the water. Or even when working it back. Squid wont come up high to eat food in the water column. They know they are getting preyed and hunted on so they hide amongst the weed and cover of semi shelter.

So they are the main areas i concentrate on when squidding.

Also consider getting getting a better quality squid jag as they not only work differently, but also swim/drop more naturally and the components are generally better.

Yo Zuri, Daiwa, and yamashitas are my go to jags with The Yo zuri HS being my go to colour. Next time you are in the shop run a uv torch over a Yo zuri HS jag and you'll understand why it is probably the most popular jag aswell as the Red white head Yo zuri.

    Hope this helps

Its still a mystery to me why reels have them in the first place in over 50 years of fishing I have never used the anti reverse switch on a spinning reel. To me its a useless addition to a reel that adds weight and serves no purpose. Im sure someone out there has an explanation for why we have them

    cheers

    snapps

"Supposedly" it was designed for the europeans as they didn't want to use there drag systems. They rather the reel wind backwards to fight fish....

  11. Could be a bit of moisture or grit/shit stuck in it causing it to slip and not work.

From memory it needs to be dry and clean. Maybe take it apart and haveca look see or just order a new anti reverse bearing and replace it...

90% of reel repairs go to Rob wilson at south oz rods. If you take it direct to him it can be done in a few days. If you take it to a tackle shop it could be a 3 week turn around as it goes to a middle man before getting picked up by rob to look at it.

  12. If you do the old drop and drag image in google images it clearly shows the pics have been taken from the world wide web.

"That" profile was getting around a few trout and redfin pages on facebook asking around for trout spots and the likes.

Youd be surprised how many actually messaged it back and replied to her comments....

All the lads looking for a hookup....

Pretty funny really how some people are so naive and fall for it.... it screams fake profile
