Yeah it's a shame. The same thing has happened to 4wd Action. The DVD's use to have hours of 4x4 footage with a few adds in between. Now there is more adds than footage of their trip. Advertising has ruined it, I use to look forward to every issue! I can't believe Roothy would sell out like that, it seems money can buy almost anyone these day's.

This is the craziest Jetty Game Fishing I've ever seen. Pure dedication. It's no longer these day's but up until the mid 90's this was real land based big game fishing, even catching the bait would of been a hand full. Have you ever herd of a landcruzer in low range 2nd hauling sharks up on to the jetty? Check it out - http://bluemako.customer.netspace.net.au/jetty.htm

Hey vajironer welcome to Strike hook. Hit the rocks and find deep water. Try using a weighted running foat, with the leader long as you can bear or fish un-weighted. It can be a mix bag off da rocks from Salmon, Flathead, Shark, ray to name a few, good luck.

I've noticed that there has been alot of great pic's posted this year. Maybe we could hold a photo comp and orgainise a Strike & Hook callerdar for 2013. I'm just posting a expresssion of interest and wanted to see if anyone would be on board. What do ya think?

Someone here might have a connection ;)How many people do ya reckon might be interested in getting a calendar? Add a thankyou to this post so we can get a bit of a gauge of interest.I'll have a look at one of my printers and see how the pricing looks for certain quantities. Is a great idea too Bass13 I've been hanging back just to see what other people thought before getting into it.

Nice fish, we'll done. You don't need a special tool, try Googling tube nail knot and such like, should turn something up.That said, to be worried about breakages, guessing you must have damaged the thin end of your leader. You can Just replace the damaged bit, doesn't need to be that technical, especially if your fishing wets. I would find where the leader is around 8 pound, cut it and tie on a length of 6 pound tippet.Good luck!

Went out for a fly this morning at Natimuk Lake. I waded out, slowly working around the timber and tree area's for a few hours. It was quite to start off. Then on the drop a trout smashed my fly. I put tention on the line and set the hook. She went crazy jumping out the water and taking some big runs. Then after a few leaps\runs it headed for the tree's. I waded out further towards the tree. The tree started shaking, I couldn't belive it. I pulled the rodtip up and tryed to pull her out and on the second attempt it launched up and off for another run. After another run and some head shakes she was in. My first trout on a fly. I was stoked, it was a epic battle and only just got her in. It will be a fight I will never forget! She was 45cm on the nose, I was using 4x with 4lb line to attach my fly, wich has frayed due to the tree. It was a great feeling landing this fish. I have a spare 9ft leader but I don't have the tool to attach it. I went to Horsham this arvo but they could help me out with the tool or attaching for me. Can anyone help? I don't really won't to use my old 9ft leader it's quite faded.

SAFWAA or SAFFA are the primary options here Bass13.Both have their pros and cons but I doubt you would be dissapointed with either.

I go fishing weekly and have caste'd this rod thousands of times with heavy sinkers and baits, it's never let me down and I couldn't imagine it breaking at the tip either. I also own a Emblem Surf 10ft 3-6 oz and they also come in a 5-7oz 12ft. The Emblem Surf cast's well and would never snap! I know this because I forgot to pull my handbrake when I parked my car and had my rods on the bull bar! When I closed my barn door the car rolled forward and was stopped by my Emblem Surf rod and the Basham's carpark fence! It snapped a reel like a twig but left my rod looking like a bow until I backed the car out. Oh I still use that rod all the time and haven't had any probs with it. Diawa are strong and light rod's so check them out!

It’s not the landing of the fish that breaks the rod,it’s the cast.If someone puts a proper strong power cast with a reasonable amount of weight on the end of the line that’s when the rod can snap.Quite common with chinese made rods.Or if a rod is too strong then it won't snap but it will be like casting using a broom stick

lol a bit of a contradiction in terms there mate - "I want a rod thats strong but light for mullies on the fwc"???All cool there - sure, casting a big bait and a big sinker takes a bit of power and the lighter the rod the easier it is to do that....(to a point)...BUT Theres the ever present chance of getting a "Nick" on the rod that will enevitably eventually snap it at the most in opportune time eg casting it after a 12 hour drive and no shops to get another one for hundreds of k's....OR and heres the biggie! You actually hook a fwc mullie! I've got a Wilson fsu 6144 and have had that thing working at its utmost trying to stop a xos fish whos only task at that time is to get back to her rellies in tassie! Every time I hook up with a big fish over there I hear the fibreglass crack that little more - no matter what you do with it over here (eg. salties) - no matter where you fish or what you catch - there seems to be a difference in the pressure and strain you have to put on the rod - a big mullie over there is in a class all its own and WILL put your gear through its paces...So, speaking from experience I would probably go a heavier wrap rod and get a gym membership to be able to handle the extra weight....In all seriousness casting over there isnt the issue - (ive hooked fish 10 metres off the shore) so you dont need to cast that far anyway - the gym membership will come in handy for the fight of your life!

I've used mine off rocks, sand and jetty.I've used it as a lever on the jetty rails to get rays off the bottom and landed some big mullys. Can cast 8oz weights with big baits no problem.Saltiga surf is loaded with 50lb braid and i've had it at full lock and rod handled it fine.
