Going through some old gear I found a few old Squid jags that have seen better days, so I tried to breathe new life into one of them. Quite happy how it came up and looking forward to getting it wet.

Cutting edge seems fine, no problems with 80lb mono and 10lb fireline. The blades are replaceable with a small Allen key, but lord knows where you'd get replacement blades from. The nose is about 7cm long so should be fine for getting hooks out that are lodged inside a fishes mouth. The whole plier is 20cm in length.
The tang lines up well at the tip and is good for all but the smaller split rings you would have on bream sized lures, but will handle heavy split rings found on deep jigs and tuna type lures. The blades have a basic crimping set up which would be OK if no better options were available.

All up the quality is fine. A large split ring attached through the bottom hole on the handle to a lanyard or length of Bungy chord and they're good to go.

Graphite all the way!! Esp with braid! You just can't beat the directness and feel! You also don't have to take 10 windes before you get enough tension to finally strike when you're getting a bite, or try to hit so hard that you almost fall over backwards when you miss easier to guide the fish one handed with the rod... True enjoyment to have so much feel of what the fish is doing, instead of using half your energy just to hold those heavy, wobbly polls trying desperately to keep a good bend.
Allows you to simply hold on and enjoy the fight. Chalk and cheese to me! No two ways about it

Picked these up at Bunnings for twenty bucks. Aluminium handles with stainless steel nose. No lanyard or pouch. Way less grief if they go over the side compared to some other brands!

As well as fish, tomato, pumpkin and all sorts of meat. Pumpkin is great. Hot smoke for 2 to 3 hours, then scoop the flesh out and mash.'For my Chinese New Year meal last night I put in a couple of kilo of chicken wings, a 1.5kg pork belly and a 2kg duck. Marinade overnight, then in the smoker at low heat for 3 hours, then finished the pork belly and duck in the oven at 240 for a crisp skin.

Salmon, tommies, snook any kind of oily fish are great smoking!!ever tried squid?! I did once and it turned out bloody beautiful! tube and tenticles yummo!!I normally just sprinkle a good amount of brown sugar and salt on the fish flesh and wait until all the sugar has soaked in then put in the smoker. normally do it twice if there is a good amount of fish or the fillets are too thick.Smoked snook is one of my favourites! will probably never let another snook go they taste that good!

For Samsons and Kings I use a Saltiga deep 55S spin rod with a Stella 8000FA running 80lb Tufline and Saltiga Hiramasa 63S spin rod with a Stella 5000SW rod running 50lb Tufline. Originally had the 8000FA on the Hiramasa running 50lb Tufline and it handled Samsons to 30kg west of Greenley Island no problems. I use the 55S with the 8000FA and custom Challenger 15kg overhead rod with a Shimano TLD 20 running 30lb braid trolling for tuna. The Hiramasa and 5000SW is also a wicked bottom bouncing rig that is my first choice for any deep sea work. Picked up some of these rods and reels second hand for way less than retail. I use leaders of around 80 -100lb for jigging, usually Pen 10X or Jinkai via an FG knot. All split rings and hooks are upgrades from what the jigs and lures are sold with. Its worth saving a few more bucks and sticking with the tried and proven brands for heavy work and you won't be disappointed.

I have been using Tufline for most of my larger reels for general boat fishing duties. 15lb yellow or red on my 3000 and 4000 size spin reels and 30 and 50lb for bottom bashing and jigging. Never had a knot problem with either fluro or mono leaders and always use an FG knot first up and a double Uni or slim beauty if I need to retie due to a bust off. Have re spooled one or two reels with Power Pro, but just like the feel and performance ofnTuffline more

The green Gomoku rod, the Keiryo, would also make a very good whiting rod. I have the red one which is the next size up. The green model would be slight over kill for the average KGW, but would deal with any bigger by catch that might jump on, whilst still being light enough for the job. Parabolic action but enough stiffness to set hooks and matches smaller 2500 sized reals nicely. Another $60 over the Bushy and KG Killa, but still affordable and would suit a wider range of situations and species. Definitely worth a look.

Hey Dingo51, welcome to S&H. KG Killa is a great whiting rod, good long butt for sticking the rod under your arm. Well suited to a 2500 size real. I also have a Bushy Bait Legend "go to" rod, also by Shimano. Couple of inches longer, with a shorter butt. I use the Go to with circle hooks and leave it in a rod holder and fish the KG Killa in hand with long shank bait holder hooks. Both rods have more than enough power for whiting, and have also landed ruggers up to a couple of kilos.

Used some 6.5" Gulp Nemesis in white glow on snapper recently. Great size for shallow water fishing and the long curly tail worked a treat. Have always liked curl tail plastics for snapper and the Nemesis is right up there.

Hamo1234, try swapping the back treble on your sugar pen to 2 Decoy pluggin singles attached so they face each other on the split ring.

Haven't vacsealed bait, but it makes sense. I have a small cryovac that I use when I have a bog load of fillets or meat to freeze. Best results are when bait (or food) is super fresh. If you are going to use the bait within a few weeks, don't bother freezing it, just keep it in the fridge. Once thawed, it will go off the same as any bait. If frozen, it will last for months, once thawed, it will be in better nick than if you froze it in a zip lock bag.

Fin's braid is the best I've had.. Neva knots and cast very wellGo 8 - 10 lb tho it casts better and I've lifted big snook, squid and stuff up onto jettys with the 6lb so you'll be plenty heavy with 10lbI always tie slim beauty so don't stress bout thatJust I case always run the Lind between your fingers to get it tight on the spool every now and then, hopefully your keeping it tight by smashing squid
