it may be the tow eye is slightly cocked to one side if the lure is spinning clockwise try pulling the eye to left ever so gently & with a very minisule adjustment with a small pair of pliers retry lure & the reverse if the lure is spinning anticlockwise. also i would tie a loop knot rather than a blood knot it gives the lure a little more freedom of movement thru the water.

just another tip keep your sounder transducer cable away from other wiring if possible ie run it it down the other side of the boat away from battery/power wires it will reduce electrical interferance

The white paper from the sa fisheries research i read a few years back said a large mulloway congregation off the murray mouth to breed around sept to november (not every year somewhere between every 3-5 years) the ova is then swept up in currents that head out into the southern ocean these then over the following year or 2 grow to a few centimetres long & drift back in on landward based currents the fingerlings take up refuge in estuarys & creeks open to the sea & spend a few years around these areas (coorong is one of the major nurserys & the worms that live in there are one of the major sources of their nourishment) once reaching maturity they leave these nurserys. There is also a minor breeding of mulloway takes place over of the west coast as well from time to time.

if you have one of the larger yaks i would go for the garmin elite 7" sidescan etc excellent unit have one on the front of the bream boat & the garmin 9" (touchscreen) echomap on the console. bcf have specials every so often on the 7" of which they are nearly as cheap as u can get online might be worth waiting for? I have used sidescan sounders now for 12 years & these garmin have done their homework & are much better than the older units i used in the past & easy to operate. the photos are from the 9" & are of a wreck a steamer sunk in the murray river but gives you an idea of the clarity & definition you get plus heaps of screen options.

If I was running light mono I would go straight to lure
Just another weakness in the line only 2lb extra anyway
knots in light line can be trouble

I've really concentrated on single hooks this year, although dabbled a bit last year.
After hooking too much weed when it was around, I found a single to pull through most weed or hook very minimal amounts.
I have found that it has not mattered if the hook is facing up / down / sideways etc.  All hook ups so far has not mattered with the hook angle.
I generally find it hardish to put a hook on the split ring even with using split ring pliers - I find using a staple remover better.
The Salmon have a good sized mouth so when they swallow the hook/lure it really doesn't matter on angle as they do get hooked either way

    Hi all,

I'm a member of GGAF (Golden Grove Amateur Fishing) and last night we had our annual "tackle night". We had some guest speakers from RecfishSA and Spot On Salisbury. Thought I'd share some info I found useful/enlightening.

Before I start, I'm just sharing this for informational purposes. I'm not affiliated with RecfishSA in any way. I know opinion is divided on what kind of a job RecfishSA do, but can we please leave that for another topic - I'm not looking to start a debate or any controversy. As I said, this is just some useful info and I'd share it no matter the source.

First off we had Danny Simpson (executive officer of RecfishSA) show us the new RecfishSA website and focus a bit on their "Fishing Locations Map". So this is a relatively new tool to their website and has many overlays you can apply to a map of SA, such as jetty locations, boat ramp, some commonly known GPS marks, freshwater fishing locales etc. Some of this is of limited value to be honest. For example most of the jetties and boat ramps just have coordinates then a link to DPTI for any detailed information. What I thought was the most useful bit of info from this map was the River Murray Public Access Sites layer. Click this on and you can see all Unallocated Crown Land, National Parks, Public access areas and Reserves along the Murray. Really useful if you want to head to the Murray and do some off the grid camping and fishing. I think this is one of those tools that will have great value to some and limited to others - but either way its worth checking out https://recfishsa.org.au/fishing-maps.

Danny also touched on the state of opening up more reservoirs for recreational fishing. Talks are still continuing with results expected - the impression I got was that progress, albeit slow progress, is being made and the success of the warren has been a good foothold. On the Warren, all species have been caught except for Cod at this stage. Hopefully they're still around fattening up. Also mentioned results of the size limit/watercraft for reservoir survey that was held recently. Nothings set in stone, but I got the impression that the proposal is likely to be similar size limits to the Murray, length limits might be slightly different. Cod will remain protected for at least 5 years and once they get big and fat that decision might be revisited. Silver Perch will be OK for taking as they are stocked and not protected in that environment. No boat limits for kayaks/canoes as these typically only have a 1-2 person capacity anyway. He mentioned they're hoping to have Kayaks and the like on the Warren this coming Summer - make of that what you will but I wont hold my breath that things will move quite so fast!

Next we had Dr. Travis Howson. Travis holds a relatively new position at RecfishSA, that of Habitat Officer. He gave a short presentation focusing on how the Onk has changed over the years and steps that RecfishSA, in conjunction with local recreational fishers and OzFish Unlimited. OzFish Unlimited is kind of based off of a US organisation called  Trout Unlimited. Its basic aim is to get recreational fishers to think about, care for and contribute to the upkeep and restoration of fishing habitats. For those interested, this is the presentation Travis gave - if nothing else, its cool to see how the Onk used to look. https://ozfish.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Fishers-Tackling-Fish-Habitat-Issues-in-the-Onkaparinga.pdf

After RecfishSA finished up we had our annual speakers from SpotOn Salisbury Steve and Lyn Castle. Steve and Lyn taught us some knots and rigs useful for all sorts of fishing. it was surprising to me that what I would've thought were basic, essential knots were not common knowledge to most of the club. Huge thanks to Steve and Lyn for once again coming along and sharing their extensive knowledge.

Was a great night, and I think on of the highlights on the clubs calendar.

    Cheers,

Saw this post on CoastfishTV (on Facebook) about a guy (and possibly a female partner) that has been dwindling money and fishing gear out of people.

https://www.facebook.com/CoastfishTV/?fref=nf (for those on FB, you may have to scroll down for this particular post, although atm it is staying near the top with all the comments)

I think he is interstate and may have been happening for many years, so putting this info up for all, especially our interstate members.

So be wary of buying anything from unknown people as you don't want to say goodbye to some some hard earned cash.

The following are some names he has gone by but there are of others as well.

WARNING Be wary of this fella especially if you intend on purchasing fishing gear. This person goes by several names on various fishing forums and Instagram including 'Daiwafreak' 'Jack Williams' 'Billy Johnson' 'John Johnson' 'Jett' 'Billy' 'Jigman72' 'Lure Junkie Jack hunter'. He even decided to contact me!
Some of the claims being made by victims are:

Takes you out fishing (several trips in some cases) and offers to sell you highly discounted Daiwa fishing rods and reels which he will personally deliver after you have paid him. Then he disappears with your money.

States he has cancer and uses this fabrication and emotionally charged sickness to exploit victims for both goods and money.
Borrows fishing equipment and then disappears.

Shuts down and reopens Facebook pages and Instagram accounts.

He may also provide you with a contact number. This number is disconnected. He will claim he is out of range if you message him about the number not working.

Unfortunately a number of fishos have fallen victim to this con mans antics. Be vigilant when purchasing fishing tackle from an unreputable seller and use all safe avenues when making your transaction. If you have been a victim of this person please let us know and I will endeavour to have it followed up. PLEASE SHARE.

On my walk back to the car yesterday after a spin session in the Meander River (report to come soon) I came across a couple of Fungi something I love taking photos of.

The bottom photo of the fungi was taken on the side of a steep hill I had to crawl up to get back from the river up to the roadway before getting back to the car at the end of my fishing session..

    cheers

With two months still to go before the trout season opens I go for walks in the rain forests looking for & photographing the variety of Fungi that grows in them. They only last a few days so it's a matter of being there at the right time.. Here's a few photos that I took last week....

Then don't lift the fish up with the rod then. I often fish my light stick off jetties (7ft 3-14g cast weight) and unless it's a small and light fish, like gar or Tommy size I don't lift it with the rod, I either grab the line and hand line it up or use a drop net.

Just need to make a judgement on the size of the fish and how much of a bend it will put in the tip lifting it.
