Underpants reacted to Kuerschie in Fly carping!
Finally completed the mission to land a carp on fly started out here:
    http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/25392-the-mission/?do=findComment&comment=271444

Headed out this afternoon chasing carp solely with fly gear, my 5/6 weight and 10lb tippet. Headed up to the Torrens around 5:30 and started searching for carp in shallow waters for sight fishing. From a high point I spotted a single decent sized fish mooching and quickly set off stalking it. Waited 5 minutes before casting in front of it and from nowhere a larger carp beat him to my bugger and the line went tight and it was game on.

Only a short fight and I netted the beast! A 65cm fish, not a bad first carp on fly and a personal best carp for me:

After this, I found a nice school of larger fish but they were too busy making babies to have interest in my fly. Walked back and spotted another single small fish and had a follow but it shied away at the last moment.
Not a bad effort for only 90 minutes of fishing.

Did a short video on tying a twisted dropper loop. I find it's good for stopping your hook links from tangling around the main line for paternoster rigs.

Because its quite stiff if can also be used with the 'drop shotting' technique I wrote up about before, particularly if you put some heat-shrink tube over the twisted dropper-hook connection.

Had some family around last night and decided to do the Good Friday fish thing. Barbecued Atlantic Salmon with Greek seasoning and also Sweet Chilli Sauce marinated Flake (as per the article in the latest "Fishing SA" magazine) went down fairly well, but the winner on the night was a Barbecue Salt & Pepper Squid recipe that I had not previously tried. For those who may be interested, you can check out the recipe here:

    http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/32665/barbecued+salt+and+pepper+squid

If you need to find some Szechuan Peppers, most Foodland Stores stock the GFresh brand - just be sure to gently roast them before you use them to get the maximum taste.

While early morning fishing/squidding off the rocks at Memory Cove with my son about 10 years ago we noticed a strange shape buzzing around in the water near our feet, pops its head up and its a Little penguin. Cool to see, but it gets more weird..... It susses us out for a few minutes then scrambles out onto the rocks and stands with us! In fact it stood right between us. "What is it doing Dad?"  Well as I don't do penguin I guessed at it either being ill or it was mightily lost and confused and thought we were big penguins! My 10 year old daughter joined us on the rocks and was so excited to see this beautiful little creature and as all kids like to do she wants to pat it. I said there is no way it will let you and as all kids like to do she proved me wrong! Obviously we didn't want to overly interfere with this creature, and once she had touched it and proved me wrong we left it to own devices and we fished on. It would occasionally have a swim and then get back out and hang with us again. Weird as! We finished up and as soon we left the penguin jumped in and I thought that was that.... Glanced back once, and then twice, and on the second occasion watched in amazement as a sea eagle swooped down from behind where we were standing and plucked our little friend from the water and carried it off to the other side of the cove. Without a word I walked on hoping to god that my daughter wouldn't look back, but of course she did, and then we got "wow Dad look at that big bird"... "oh what's it got, it's carrying something".... "on nooo the penguin Dad, it's got the penguin"!!! That's when you do your best explanation of that's how nature works, blah, blah, blah, but obviously that doesn't help a small person who has just lost her new favourite animal in the world, ever!!!
That year we were unlucky enough to come across many dead emus on the drive in to Memory Cove, a dead seal on the beach and the loss of our little friend. We renamed it Memorial Cove that year!

Ive done mostly wading so its been a matter of what i can realisically work with my light outfit, limiting me to around 45mm. Ive caught them up to around 40cm this way.

70/90mm should be fine but depending on what sort of outfit/action/tip you are using, i dont see why you couldnt go bigger and 'weed out' the bigger specimens. They can be super greedy and i could easily believe a 20cm ST landed on a 90mm popper!

When they are 'on' they coudnt care less what colour but go mad for the surface splash & bubbles. I do like something a bit 'shiny' to to sparkle in the water a bit. Putting yourself in the fish's perspective, they are basically looking up at the dark profile against the sky and see all the bubbles & splashes coming from behind.

Hardest part is getting the conditions right to work them properly so i regulalry put metals forward over poppers.

When the water is calmer and they are in the mood, poppers are awesome fun.....the bow waves of the approching attack, boiling surface & multiple surface strikes. It's a rush.

Then they are thck, go to single hooks. Even just 1 on the back.

Ok guys n girls something a little different this month. Time to get creative!

Over the years this has been brought up a few times and now it has happened we have a new section of the forum How to guides and DIY projects.

It's pretty self explanatory what goes in here but a few ideas... How you built your fishing cart/caddy, how you tie certain rigs or knots, your great idea for a rod holder, how to use soft plastics/hard bodies, even recommendations on how to read your sounder.

This new section is currently empty, a few older topics may find there way in here but we need lots of new content so get posting. All posts in this section during March will be in the running for The Fishing Guru prize pack.

We have a new sponsor on board this month so please give a warm welcome to The Fishing Guru. The Fishing Guru is an absolute legend, local Adelaide bloke who has a lot of quality gear, he sells online so is able to offer some great prices covering fishing tackle, pre-tied rigs, berley and 4WD accessories to name just a few. One cool new product that the Guru is working on that I've had the pleasure of seeing in the early stages is his very own fish attractant/scent. With a background as a chef, these scents will be killer!

Check out The Fishing Guru on Facebook and please like his page https://www.facebook.com/TheFishingGuru

The prize pack details will be posted up shortly

If i had fresh tuna id definitly do similar but use it coarsly minced rather than cooked. Form up a bit smaller, coat in breadcrumbs and deep fry.
Alas dont have the dilemma of an over supply of fresh tuna. .

Underpants reacted to seagypsy in Crispy skinned red curry - St Vincent Gulf Snapper
Well yesterday when I was floating around in the middle of the gulf without any food on the boat my mind was thinking about food 99% of the time and fishing 1 % of the time. I caught a nice rugger and visualized it turning into a delicious crispy skinned Thai dish. I almost had to turn the bilge pump on I was salivating so much.  Anyways I looked up a few recipes which were all confusing and normally required loads of different ingredients.  So here is my simple Crispy skinned red curry - Free range snapper.

    Ingredients - See photo
    -  Valcom authentic Thai red curry paste
    - 1 lime
    - 1 Red onion
    - 1 Tomato
    - Packet of coriander
    - Chilli flakes
    - 1 can of coconut milk
    - 1 Small snapper  ( You can leave head and tail on if you desire )
    - Plain flour.

    Method

    - Chop onion into slices and tomato into rough cubes and fry in a small saucepan until onion is lightly brown.  Once the onion is brown add the tin of coconut and about half the jar of red curry paste. ( More or less dependant on your taste.) Squeeze half a lime and then let simmer while you attend to the fish. ( That is the sauce done. )

    - Slice the fish down its side three times ( evenly spaced for appearance sake . Put some flour into a dish and press the fish onto the flour covering both sides evenly.

    - Place oil in a frying pan to the level that you would normally do when shallow frying.  To check oil temp put a cube of bread into the oil, if it browns in 10 seconds its ready.

    - Add your fish to the hot oil and cook for about 4 minutes on each side. I like to spoon some hot oil into the gut cavity to ensure it cooks properly.

    Presentation

Once the fish is cooked place it onto a plate that has a bit of depth. You will be adding sauce so you don't want a flat plate.  Pour your sauce and place the cooked onion and tomato evenly over the fish.   Chop your coriander and chilli and sprinkle it over the top stand back and admire hell even call your wife over and get her to pat you on the back

    Eating

Put a napkin over your shirt, get a cold beer and devour it in front of the cricket.
