That is one very funny post there Madplopper!Sense some over-reaction on your behalf.I will take your post into consideration if you ever attempt to join the group Big Reds.Okay heres a another massive tip for anyone wanting to catch snapper from Turton.Launch at turton and motor around to directly opposite Hardwicke bay. stay in close and find some deep holes in the reef. Be carefull that you are going really slow cos its very shallow and watch your sounder for holes. (if you make it up to Port Minlacowie then youve gone to far). Find a Hole and on Dusk burley up with cubed pilchards and you should be a chance of catching some reds that cruise into the reefs to feed on crabs and squid etc.

urhookedfish got a reaction from sam rafta in Kingfish in West Lakes?
Ive been watching this thread with interest, as I was lucky enough to get stuck into a school of rugger snapper in west lakes near the rowing club with fellow angler J Walkley. All fish where approx 33-35cm.I was planning on fishing the same area the following year to see if they had grown to legal but didnt get round to it as I live down south.Just the sheer array of fish in the lakes indicates that anything and everything can get in there as juveniles. The big question we need to ask is, are the rat kings that we see along our coasts...ie Marino (where I hooked about an 8lber), are these escaped farm fish..if so then they may have escaped at an age that is too big to get into west lakes. It seems to me that no one has caught any Rat kings that are tiny, and I mean a size that could swim into the lakes. Not sure exactly what size they would need to be, but Im thinking that the Kings are not breeding in Gulf st vincents at all. Ie not spawning? if someone could categorically say that yes, they have spawned in this gulf, then at that stage, I would say there is every chance that they will find there way into the lakes as the Snapper did and all the other fish that are currently found in there!Cheers,Brett

I would go with the symetre 2500 with 5lb power pro or 10lb sunline super pe.Most of the shimano 2500s can run 3000 spool aswell. So you could buy a 3000 spool to go with your 2500 and run 15lb on it.In terms of the rod I would go a 3-5 or 3-6 kg over a 1-4 or 2-4kg. Around the 7ft markA 3-5 Gives you the option of casting a heavier lure if needed, and will be more versatile. Eg. Be able to use snapper fishing. What's your budget if you don't mind me asking?

The best handling, most supple mono I have come across is the UK made Ultima Distance. It is an extremely nice line to use, and while not the thinnest diameter for breaking strain around, it is quite reasonable, and the Ultima specs on diameter and breaking strain I have found to be accurate.I test all new lines that I get, and my favourite by far for general fishing is Ultima Power Steel. It is tough, nice to handle and breaks above it's rating when using Bimini twists.I tried out the Sufix Duraflex about 6 months ago and was very disappointed with it. The rated breaking strain was from memory 28lb with a stated diameter of 0.35mm, but when tested with biminis, would not exceed 16 lb. The Ultima Power Steel on the other hand in the 20lb rating was accurate with respect to measured diameter (I think it was 0.40mm) and I pulled it to 27+lb and it still didn't break. The actual strength of the Power Steel over the Duraflex was more than 20% stronger for it's actual cross sectional area.I was recently given some Sufix Tritanium which has a very good reputation, but have not yet had a chance to test it out.Hope this helps!Regards,SB

If you can find an old skool spool of Mono called Platyl - snap it up. its very soft and supple and good diameter. I used to use it on all my reels prior to moving to braid. If anyone ever sees it for sale please let me know?

At this stage the SAFLP will be nominating 2 candidates for the Legislative Council (Upper House) at the next (March 2014) State Election.I can assure you the candidates will be thick skinned fishos, passionate about our policy goal. Our overriding policy goal is below. The South Australian Fishing & Lifestyle Party are totally opposed to the introduction of the “new” marine parks and their associated sanctuary zones, and will do everything in our power to have this legislation repealed. Failing this, we will do everything in our power to have the sanctuary zones that restrict entry, reduced in number and size. For more up to date information look us up on Facebook. With the limited volunteers & resources we have it is easier to convey our message there. Our website is a point of first contact and it is costly to constantly update it.We don't mind if you vote for the Shooters Party or the SAFLP (we will probably preference them anyway) so long as you at least send a message to the of the large parties.

I am amazed at the pathetic, suspicious attitude of some people on this site. A few points you might want to consider.I was the candidate for the SAFLP at the last election. You reckon I did it for power, glory and self interest. Bullshit, I knew there was very little chance of getting in but gave it a go anyway. If anyone here wants to run for parliament for the SAFLP at the next election, join the Party and put your name forward. We are a properly constituted Party.I also stood for the previous State election for rec fishers and for the Senate in the 2007 Federal Election for the Australian Fishing & Lifestyle Party. This was long before many of you even knew about Marine Parks/Sanctuary Zones. The Shooters party were given my preferences at the previous 2 State elections and probably will get them again at the next state election. It is a pity they have never reciprocated because if we preferenced each other then one of us might get in and be able to advocate for the other. Also,I don't have an ego to polish or need a career (I'm 62) I do it to send a signal to both major Parties and the lifestyle destroying Greens that Fishers have had enough of this Marine Parks "FRAUD".Fishers must realise that Politicians will never take any notice of you unless you threaten their existence. ie You have to play their game. VOTES.As far as the Shooters Party goes, they really do not completely represent Fishers and many fishers really don't want a close association with hunting/shooting. But having two Parties that can advocate for one another is a great idea. With regard to our mission statement and policies, check out the website www.saflp.com it's all there and like us on Facebook and we might be able to spread the word actually achieve something.Let's cut the negativity and all pull together in the same direction.
