April would have to be my favourite time to go there, so you're on the money for some good fishing! Especially on the South Coast. If there are offshore winds, it would be worth having a suss at some of the main beaches down there, might come across a salmon school for endless exhausting fun. Good luck ScaledUp! Really looking forward to the report
P.S. I remember years back, I asked the same questions on this forum.. If it weren't for the help of fellow S&H'ers my trips wouldn't have been as eventful as they were! Great people make a great forum..

With the new laws in place for PFD's I had a browse through the suppliers "rewards" and found this.
Cost me $0.00, no need for govt. voucher exchange and didn't leave the office. 3 clicks on the mouse and 2 days later delivered to my desk.
Would have used as the Squid Queens birthday present but she works in the same building

What an exciting time , the OzFish Onk Habitat group have been making great headway in the restoration of habitat in the Onkaparinga river . We have finished stage one which was to deploy Limestone blocks into the Onk to place some substrate for small critters to attach to and hide around . These living critters such as oysters , barnacles and small crustaceans will in turn encourage bigger critters to congregate in the area . The placement of these blocks also should help the tides that flow over them to scour more of the sediment from the bottom of the river in an aid to make a deeper hole in the area for even bigger critters to hide and congregate .  As you can see in the scans the placement of the blocks are near a natural limestone outcropping for them to compliment and as there was 2 deployments , the first deployment has already encouraged some sediment displacement right after the outcropping . A big and massive thanks to all the volunteers that have been taking time out from there lives to come to meetings and the organising make this achievement . We have some more projects in the pipeline and if you care to be a volunteer , we are always grateful for more helping hands .

Hi Team. Came across this critter at Largs this morning while walking our dogs. I thought it was a very lost Morton Bay Bug! Apparently it is a Balmain Bug (Ibacus peronii). Never seen one before. Common? The dogs were not happy we let it go!
    Cheers,
    Greg.

piratepom reacted to Meppstas in Tasmanian freshwater lobster & Platypus...
Yesterday while heading up to Liena (Mersey River) for a spin session I came across a fresh water Lobster in the middle of the road. It had climbed up a steep bank so it could reach the on the other side of the road. This was because the poor thing couldn't reach a concrete pipe that ran under the road that the creek water flowed through.. It is now in the creek that it was trying to reach.. I was a little worried it may have been run over by a quarry truck that wasn't all that far behind me when I spotted it, lucky for it the truck missed it.. Then today as I was heading back to the car I spotted a Platypus next to the river bank so took a photo of that too.. here's a couple of pic's of some of Tasmania's wild life..

    cheers
    Adrian

Fresh water lobster, a protected species that comes with a $10,000 fine for each one that is found in a persons possession..

And here we have the little Tasmanian Platypus that is quite common in most rivers around the state.. always nice to see them in the rivers..

Hi fellas. Here's a pic of my best metro mully caught just b4 I sold my cuddy cab a little while back. Over the 50lb mark. These fish don't come easy but magic can happen for those who persist. I just hope my new boat is lucky also. Cheers

With a very slow salmon season this year, we struggled for salmon reports but did manage to pick a winner. A clear winner!

Firstly a huge thanks to SPOTTERS for supplying the awesome prize pack including the really cool pair of Fury  sunnies (Gloss Black) with Halide lens! Check out the SPOTTERS website for their huge range of sunnies. They now have a ladies pair of sunnies so well worth checking out if the Mrs goes fishing with you, also great sunnies for everyday use!

Now onto the winner...... Underpants with Salmon and by-catch bonus

Congratulations Undies, a great report that was an absolute pleasure to read.

Please send me a pm with your details so I can send off the prize for you

Thanks to everyone who got out and chased salmon in this tough season. Hopefully next year will bring better conditions and lots more fish!

I ended up popping into BCF on the way home and picked up the rod Kman suggested, the Road Runner 6-10kg, on sale for $89! Nice.

If it gets wet I'll put a post up in a couple of weeks.

Just a tip when going up there for barra... if your using lures BUY THEM HERE and take them with you. I went up there to chase barra and soft plastics were nearly 50% dearer than here and places like shady camp you lose a lot of gear and its lures only (without trebles).

depending how big your bag is a lot of 2 piece rods might still be on the cards? I also found a few local fishing gear shops in Darwin had a larger selection of travel rods than in SA due to the market space so worse case pick something up while your there.

Also if you dont want to spend a fortune the Shakespeare slingshot engage rods are a really good rod for the price. Around 80 buxs... but come in a hard cover and have a spare tip. Only downside is they are select in the models but have a 7 foot 10kg stick which i sold to a bloke wanting to chase barra and the likes up north. Absolutely loved it...

Check out the Savage Gear Roadrunner 6-10kg. 4 piece, 7 foot flat, full graphite, etc. I've got one that's my heavy travel rod aimed at barra and cod etc. $139 isnt too expensive for a reasonable travel rod either.

Some nice looking SPs there. I love using the Squidgy Fish and Whipbaits for Flatties. Bream and Trouties will smash them too... even in the 100mm size.😉

Not saying this is related but was talking to an acquaintance who was fishing with a friend at the cape for snapper when they saw tuna busting up.  They put out 1 rod each, the friend with a brand new lure.  After the friend had hooked 3 tuna and failed to bring any to the boat, the skipper asked to have a look at the lure.  It still had the plastic protective case over the trebles, once removed, the fish came in to the boat
    Cheers
