brining them in a salt solution overnight then placing them on absorbent paper and freezing the worms on the paper in lunch bags has worked for me on the YF.
    cheers b

Sorry mate would have to disagree with you this time. Years ago I used to use frozen and persevered worms with no change In catch rate compared to fresh. For the last fee years I've barely used bait on yfw, If they wont hit the popper I change to a gulp turtleback worm and they smash them harder than bait I recon.

I've had plenty of luck catching YFW on worms preserved in metho, just a quick dip and pat dry then pack em and freeze em good for the next session. Had a mate with smashing them too on preserved blood worms. They can be picky some days and do prefer live and fresh.

I gave up on that 1... Can preserve them well enough, but when it comes to yellowfin whiting, you're better off with frozen peeled prawns!
They turn their noses up at worms that aren't live in my experience. The small ones don't mind them sometimes, but mostly it's not eaven worth going fishing for them without live bait! Or very fresh frozen prawns/shrimps around the new moon especially.

Detoll, baby oil and bit of water all mixed up works a treat on the mozzies! Not sure bout the flies though.

I find bushman's and tropical versions of aerogard are useless against flies. DEET is more effective on midges and mossies. Normal Aerogard works best for me with flies.

I'll have to give archerfish's suggestion a go though. When the flies are bad aerogard just can't cope.

For mozzies the Citronella plants leaves crushed and rubbed on your skin are effective, havent found one for flies yet.

    Hi there,

I always have concerns using repellent , I use to work in the desert , LOTS of fly's .

When you sprayed it around your head area , with a hard hat on , it actually stars eating into the helmet .

So I wonder what it does to our skin .....?????

    G'day
I enjoy hearing about people involved in illegal fishing activities who get caught and pay a hefty penalty for it.  Go for it I say, take their boat and their car if it is being used to fish illegally for profit.
However, as a recreational fisher I don't like the fact that these low lifes who rape and pillage our seas, get called 'recreational fishers'
To my mind, once they cross the line from accidentally having an extra fish, to seriously abusing the limits, they become criminals and should be named as such, not called recreational fishers.
eg If someone is jogging along taking handbags would you call them a jogger or a bag snatcher?
If someone is driving a car that they have stolen, would you call them a 'motorist' or a car thief?
If someone goes in to a store and removes goods without paying for them, would you call them a 'shopper' or a shop lifter?
    etc
So why punch us law abiding recreational fishers in the nose by calling these marine poacher scumbags 'recreational fishers'
I find it very offensive, please use an appropriate term
    Cheers

    Beware of eBay sellers Brankin.
The prices on those rods have been inflated massively. Can be found for much less elsewhere.

I've noticed a heap of eBay sellers with ridiculous prices, biomasters at $600 plus as an example.
I really hope people do their research before they hand over money to these crooks.

Ive got the daiwa gen black (itchy twitchy 1.5-3kg) and its a great rod for flick lures. Sensitive tip, and enough grunt down low to stop any bream.

Well have managed a couple trips out on the northern flats for the month so far and got into good fish both times.

First time was out was 2nd August with my friend who's now on the site as TommisnSalmon chucking lures and getting into some good fish holding fairly close in over broken lumpy ground. No Strikehook gear for the comp though.

Weather was crap with rain and moderate winds but we managed to position ourselves upwind of some schools and got into fish from just over legal up to the 40's.

Then got away again on Saturday 15th with Underpants and his mate Blackdog3. Was out pretty early and the weather was fantastic for it early in the morning. Even had to strip off some of my insulation as I was getting a bit cooked when the sun was out. There was a lot of early morning fog which was interesting to fish in being able to see nothing but the water and grey cloud around us.

Was plenty of interesting life around the place.

Lots of activity everywhere. Was a small group of dolphins close in chasing fish in knee to waist deep water making huge bow waves and birds hovering overhead looking for scraps.

    http://youtu.be/p8K_YDL5aGM

We got into fish fairly quickly. I was trying out some new lures, in particular a Savage Gear 2.5" Manic Shrimp which worked was working great on the little salmon trout but didn't land anything special. Underpants quickly got into some good fish with soft plastics.

We moved further out while Blackdog3 stayed behind which was a solid move on his part as further out in the sort of channel and gutter systems where normally good fish school up we struggled to get a hit. I managed a couple of good follows from salmon trout and some nice sized snook but no commits and Underpants managed to net some solid squid but as for the good salmon schools they were absent, holding again in the lumpy broken ground further in where there was no clear channels or gutter systems, just sandy holes with scattered high lumps of weedy patches.

We headed back to that area spotting some nice rays, one right up on shallow flats waving its wings in the air and a massive one that came right up to my feet to check me out. Underpants also manhandled a huge Pt Jackson that kept trying to eat the catch in his keepnet! Those things are like badly behaved puppies sometimes.

Managed to get into some good fish myself, switching over to a 68mm black-chrome Shimano Waxwing fitted with a quality single hook. I find this a great searching lure as it casts like a metal but can be fished with a slower hardbody like action and with the single I find it to be a bit more weed resistant than a metal as the 'wings' push floating weed up and away from the body a little when pulled through.

Was a good days out fishing with company, hopefully can find time to get out again with the fly rod next time. And to finish off Underpants sent through a pic of his cleaning table once he got the fish he kept home:

Its been awhile since I started a post so he goes, Lately ive had a bad run on chasing KGW. The waters ive been fishing have just felt devoid of life. Due to this my last three trips Ive cracked the shits and headed straight back into the creeks and creeks mouths to chase trouties. This has been great fun throwing poppers and hard bodies at them and my 3 year old has had a ball doing this.
While doing this my mind has kept wondering to thoughts of chasing one of my favourites the black bream.
Ive been doing quite well over the last two years catching these awesome fish on plastics but ive decided this year I will concentrate of throwing hard bodies in the mangrove lined creeks and structure filled port. This fishing will suit my short trips with the kids this year as time is limited.
So today i went to BCF (argh!!! i know i hate them too) with a voucher i had to spend. Bought a new tackle bag as the old one was falling apart and then dumped the rest of the voucher on bream candy.

All these new lures will be added to the usual suspects in my tackle trays and will be throw into the trouble areas with the new bream combo which so far has only seen trouties on the end of it but so far very impressed.

    The new setup is a Azuza ABS601L-SK 1-3Kg line, 2-7g Lure. Its 1piece 6'
Ive matched this with a Shimano Stradic CI4+ 1000
Its so light but strong so far I love it just need to get a big bream on it.

If the plan comes together hopefully it will lead to a few more of these

and hopefully some larger 40+ models and maybe even the long chased 50+cm model.

Met up today with a mate I haven't fished with for awhile. We met at a local beach to fish the afternoon tide. After a dismal July on the salmon I was really hoping to get into some fish.

Second cast and I was on, felt good to get a bend in the rod, it's been awhile since I've felt that sensation. Just a 30cm fish, but I'd already matched my catch total from last month.

There were definitely some fish around, but they were spread out all over, lots of casts between fish. Over a couple hours I landed about half a dozen, all around the same size. My mate did about the same, and he hooked one fish he reckoned was much better but he dropped it before we got a look.

A really nice afternoon weather wise as well. Looking forward to more fish showing up and some warm Spring conditions.

Very unforgiving with no stretch factor!!
Sticking to 2lb leeder I think! Till I get my bad habits under control

This year alone my boat almost sank due to some scumbag taking my bungs out while i slept in my swag, Water was coming in over the transom when i got back to it from parking the car and i was a very lucky man.Had to bail 100's of litres before the car could pull the boat out then it too a good 25min to drain. After parking the car i proceeded to bog that in the sand.
Prior to that i had a sounder taken out by a Roo flying over the bonnett and conecting with my boat, Had my 899 humminbird cook and die, Cut the transducer cable off my 899 in a very early and dark start on the river. Foot pedal for electric fry and die, last on the agenda i was attacked by a dog ,, Great six months on the river
