Bait Caster reacted to southie THE BANGA in Rod Butt Extension
So I picked up a Wilson Supergraph Big Water Bream Rod for an absolute bargain of a price. The only Downside is the Butt end is very short and isn't comfortable to put under the arm. So i will be having a crack and constructing my own Extended Rod butt section.

I took the rubber fighting cap off and used a set of verniers to measure the inside diameter of the blank. I then found an old broken rod blank that would slip into the blank and be tight enough to bond the two blanks together with resin.

I cut the old blank to go up the blank only to below the Reel seat so it doesn't effect rod action and weight. The piece of blank i used once fixed to inside the Supergraph Rod I will then Tape it all to make it even, add sand grit tape then add heat shrink over the blank to tidy up to make it look like it was ment to be apart of it. The final touch will be to add an EVA Foam grip on the bottom just to finish it off... In the end it should look something like this but neater.. (was a mock up i test fitted)

It's just a little project inbetween rod builds while i'm waiting for parts for my other rod builds. Keep an eye on this space.. Will Post updates as they come to hand.

If anything, sink the lure on a semi slack line rather than an overly slack line. It sounds like they are using the excess slack to choke the lure.

It can be somewhat unavoidable at times, if you're chasing the trouties, maybe it is worth changing to a shorter jig head or wider gape hook also. If it really bothers you, maybe just fish tighter to the rocks.

It's tricky and can be hard to get around at times, but if it seems to be an unusual trend, the above may make a difference.

There's heaps of massive bream that size in the lakes... They usually school just under the kingfish, and feed off the scraps left by the 10 foot plus bronze whalers that follow them. Or so I've heard.

Here's a few photos from the WFFC, a few fishing in some very poor conditions on Penstock Lagoon & Little Pine Lake in the Central Highlands yesterday in snow & 35-45 kph winds that were also gusting up to 60 kph.. Today is much worse with snow down to 500 meters and gale force winds of 90-100+ kph.. not sure if today's event was on or not, checked the web cams of both waters and didn't see any boats on them..
Not sure if the river fishing was on either.. I was going for a drive to the Upper Mersey River today to take a few photos but decided to stay home in the warm..
The air temp here in Sheffield at the moment is 2.3 degrees..
    cheers
    Adrian..

You don't see Southie on the bbq because he burnt everything and for that photo KS had to be peeled off of the ice box, his favourite resting place for the day. Doobie, I'm not going there 🍭 and Softy get's a thumbs up because he liked my home brew 👍🏻
It was a bloody crack up of a day, endless laughs all round with a great bunch of fellas. We had way more fun than anyone else there  Doobie possibly had too much fun 😂

Bait Caster reacted to peatop in Scoots
I often watch fishing show on tv and youtube and one that i really like (although in it's last season)is big angry fish, one of the guys has been developing these scoots (as he calls them) basically they are saltwater flys tied onto a sp jighead, these are nothing new they've been around as long as i can remember in on form or another, i bought some tinsel, thread and glue some time ago but kept forgetting to make them until i was watching an episode the other day were they went scoot fishing (no bait).
I pulled out the gear i had bought and some craft supplies i had got from my daughter and proceeded to make a few test ones.
These are what I've made and thought i would share, and ask if anyone has done anything similar for saltwater use?

Bait Caster reacted to peatop in VAN STAAL 275 TAKES A DRINK!
Plankton, is it a case of which came first? The chicken or the egg? These reels were designed for the such a purpose, i assume these fishermen were using other brands and complaining/asking maybe is there a reel out there that will put up with it and last longer.
I agree that the drag could be better investigated, but im of the impression that it could be a trade off for being waterproof, similar to the tightness of the wind, the price of the reals is very high, some of the reason for this is they are not mass produced, they are handmade and you are also paying for something that no one else produces.
If your after a water resistant reel there are many brands but you will pay a high price (not as high as the van staal) these reels will have a nice smooth wind and drag, athough mass produced they come with sealed bearings, and gaskets in the joins, however these will not last as long and need wasing every trip and serviced at least every year if not sooner.
I can't afford high end reels so i service mine regularly wash every trip and replace as soon as they become un serviceable  (only replaced my starter reels so far) again im a kayak fisherman and my reel get wet almost every outing, another thing to consider about water resistance,  the harder it is for the salt water to get in, the harder it is to get out, so if you wish to keep that reel in top order you should service it on a very regular basis and definitely not leave it sit for long after a dunking.
A good way to get advice on which reels are suitable to your application is ask someone who fishes your style, but remember everyone has a different opinion and usually somewhat biased 😉 so the more people you talk too reduces that list, but you have to ask them "why? What makes this reel the better choice" and other questions, the Internet is not a good place to get an informative opinion nor are manufacturers or retailers, again they are biased, don't forget to ask the most important questing "what dont you like about them" this is often forgotten but could be the one deciding factor for not choosing this reel.
I know very little about fishing and gear, the changes in the 20 years away from it have been like starting from scratch😩 however i do have 50 years experience in how to find and choose the right gear for the job, it has been said, that you dont need to buy a good outfit to catch the fish of a lifetime, but if you want that outfit to last, you get what you pay for😉
Oops sorry for another long rant😩 im blaming the meds lol

Pretty much in a nutshell, but   most braids will damage  and fray if used around structure making checking the last couple of metres  a regular thing, this should be done anyway as a matter of course ,only difference is beacause they are multi strand they still hold some integrity even if some of the outer fibres shred.Gliss seems to  pinch  and form a weakspot that can snap a bit easier. Its not all bad though, casts well and pretty good for general fishing.

Poor abrasion resistance, very thin diameter, frays over time and need to cut it back every few sessions. Can compensate by going heavier. Overall not bad if you can get it for a cheap price.

Bait Caster reacted to Cal in Wading bags
I have done lots of wading over the years and  wherever possible I use my  home made tub  these days.In it I can carry everything and have mounted a pvc pipe  to store a spare rod,or landing net or crab rake.I will use a bag on a beach, but the main reason I dont wading anymore  is once out Thompsons beach years ago had a big lit up bronzy that wanted what  fish where in the bag, not good when the thing is attatched to your waist. This thing was fast and determined  and  circled ,rushed at me and my mate numerous times .We were using our rod butts to fend it off.Scared me that bad  ,yeah kinda puts one off the idea..😎

Bait Caster got a reaction from Territory Lad in Advice - Shimano TK3G series of rods
7'3" was originally sold as a vibe rod I think so will have enough midrange to work larger whiting topwater lures, as is designed with enough give so you wont pull hooks on soft mouths. The blanks are a bit doughy, being composite, but are fine for what you are doing. I have one of the original pale blue sticker rods, with cork handle.

What I can say using it casts a lot further than a 1000 size reel 😊

Mickyj, sit at home in front of the TV, or where ever, spend some time winding with the handle and you will have it down in no time. I find when changing from one side to the other, I do it with BC reels with different techniques, they hardest part is the initial few winds combined with a solid hook set. Stick to it and after a while it will be second nature.

Isnt that the whole reason for some of these new "organizations", all some have done is attempt to divide recreational fishers. Nothing to add to the discussion, agree with him or get either abuse or blocked.

Good points RJ and Kon,  as always, on point!!
You covered a whole lot of concerns and realityt that I’m sure many haven’t even thought about but will very well be part of reality.

In regards to elected members to sit on the council:

Last I read, The forum being included couldn’t agree on who was suitable to run for the council, they didn’t have a suitable female amongst their ranks, and their loyal leader is too busy collecting benefits and running the forum to do anything else.
They only had one person locked in, and he isn’t exactly a local.

As for the other 2 “organizations”, do they even have more than 3 members each to throw into the mix? I figured it was 2 guys, 2 separate organizations and a dormant laminating machine waiting for new member cards..
That’s unless they can put forward Facebook likes as sitting members?

Current system has only "failed" due to complete apathy by the recreational sector. Only have to look at the pathetic response to the various surveys and questionaires published in the last several years. Instead the process has been distorted by a few individuals who represent almost nobody, and distort the facts.
