    I completely agree with this.
There's plenty of bream in those places, so not much sense in a stocking program.
A mulloway stocking program would get my attention. Better yet, effective management of mulloway in the Coorong, giving them a chance to replenish themselves naturally, would be even more interesting.

Not a fan of a license without first seeing the government make a commitment to improving the fishery in stead of the status quo of 'optimum utilisation' or scorched earth policy in fishery management (salt water environment).
I'm like 85% of SA rec fishers that are not interested in fishing the fresh so you can have a license to fish the fresh if you want as this is the only place rec fishers get a look in with current fishery management but keep us salt water fishers out of it.
Also I wouldn't be expecting any new areas opening up in the port as the new Liberal government is handing Cruikshanks Corner to a commercial fishing company, https://ourport.com.au/precinct/cruickshanks-corner/
Seems very dumb to me to create a commercial fishing base in the middle of an area that is planned for high-rise apartments, it's amazing what electoral donations can get you. Not good for rec fishers as this is the only place to launch in the inner harbour and potentially looks up another couple of hundred metres of river front so recs can't access it.
While the government has this attitude to rec fishing, not on your life.

    Yep
Plus it will require those that work to take a day off and by memory I think they only get compensation for the travel costs.

Not real keen on the concept of a fishing license. I can see the merits in them but I don't want to be taxed for something that I'm doing for fun, whether I'm catching fish or getting donuts, it just doesn't feel right.

    G'day fishos,
Hope you're all well! For my Year 11 studies, I have chosen to research the decline of snapper stocks in the Gulf of St Vincent. I have conducted a survey about this topic to help conduct with my research. I would appreciate if you could take the time out the fill in my survey!

I have the "ugly stick" bag.. Why? I liked the little pocket with the box for lures.. and the material looked a lot tougher than the Alvey one..
Thompsons is my local.. Been there a few times last/this year.. always get one or two silvers with lures and always lots of undersized ones.. You can thank the local Pro Fisher for raping the area.. I wish they ban them in metro...... Great spot for it..

If you have a Yak then bream in Westlakes are easy and plentiful. All the pontoons hold bream. If you are struggling with lures then throw on a bit of bait on the jighead and throw it near the pontoon like a lure. Pilchard, worm, prawn and squid all work. If you don't want to use bait then throw on a gulp.
Trolling also produces a lot of bream for me. I use duel hardcore, Bushy's stiffy minnow and SX40 trolling for ST every winter and usually pick up a few bream bycatch.

Certainly will be.... coming up to Big Mulloway time again...some decent numbers of salmon trout already in the river. Lots of mullet around as well. Bream in the creeks have been consistent & will get bigger as the colder weather starts to roll in. Nice pan size Snapper around as well....I'm having a ball with this nice weather around.

Yeah definately understand what your saying I must be doing something right I fished at North Haven in my yak landed my first 28cm bream on plastics.

Just like others have suggested they are just over fed by residents.

Below I've attached two pictures of my first bream.

If you ask 10 fisherpeople about what works best for them with Bream on plastics you'll more than likely get 10 different answers.
If it was too easy there would be no satisfaction in your eventual success. Read and watch as much info as you can handle, but at the end of the day the only way to learn what works for you in any particular location is to get out there and keep casting.
Good luck and cast with confidence.
Look forward to seeing a post from you of a West Lakes Bream with a SP hanging out of it's gob.🐟

Yeah Land based fishing in Darwin, firstly , watch out for crocs !
Mandorah Jetty i would go to if decent tides, they get a mixed bag off there inc Spanish macks , queenies , trevally , sharks.
The wharfs do still fish ok , but the majority of decent trevally etc will smoke you on structure .
If your going to try for Barra landbased, id gather some info first on where is fishing good at the time you plan to go , as alot depends on what baitfish are around etc and of course the sometimes huge tides. The local knowledge of the crew at the darwin fishing and outdoor shop (in darwin city) are great , They will put you in the right direction and you could save yourself some time by speaking with them (they have a FB page too, and are responsive on messenger)  Channel island and buffalo creek are some places to look into , plenty of land based barra get caught there usually under 80cm but good fun, you need to know what your doing barra fishing though with the tides etc, And like i say , fishing safely ! ,knowing what the massive tides are doing constantly , and keeping crocs in mind is absolute #1

Sounds like a great trip mate.👌
Buffalo Creek near Lee Point for Barra. Best fished at low tide. There's a fishermans track that leads back up the creek bank from the carpark, which will take you to a few spots worth a flick. Not a track for the faint hearted.
Seen Queenies taken at Nightcliffe jetty and the Cullen Bay ferry jetty. As mentioned the main wharf has a great reputation for fishing.
Another option would be to jump on the ferry, 15 minute ride, and fish the Mandorah jetty.🐟🐟🐟
    Good luck.

Barra are just the beginning. Threadfin Salmon, Blue Salmon, Golden Snapper, Estuary Cod, Travs (various types), Queenies then you could get lucky woth the odd drive by from a Sapnish Mackeral, Black Jew, Jack, various reef species. Depends really on what land based you do and whether you are cbd based or in on of the suburbs. There are various estuary vs wharf locations.
There are two main wharfs in the CBD which you always see people fishing - if you want to see an amazing sight have dinner at the main wharf over sunset. Grab a seat hard up against the edge where the spot lights are directly below you. As the sun goes down and the lights come on the fish come out to play. Huge moon/bat fish, barra, trevs and various other fish school up on the surface chasing the offerings dinners drop in.
If you going to be fishing from the waters edge, it would pay to ask/keep an ear open for croc sightings.
Enjoy! Darwin is a great place.

Good call on the toughness of the bait - the mullet I chase are very good at taking bait off hooks - So I get a chicken drumsticks, peel back the white flappy skin and there is a outer coating of tough skin underneath (like silverside) - I make sure my baits have a silver side backing. If I use the normal flesh from inside the drumstick they find it much easier to rip off.

I spose its a bigger issue for me because I chase small mullet on tiny 3mm by 3mm baits

There can be many different sizes within the same school - the ones under 4 inch can be a real pain and waste alot of precious seconds dragging my bait around and keeping it out of the mouth of the bigger ones - they're also great at ripping off soft baits

The days when they are so fired up they will take "white flappy" chicken skin are the best - they find it very difficult to rip that off and you can catch heaps of the one bait - but they do show a preference for the flesh over the skin. And a piece of flesh thats been sucked on a few times isnt as attractive as a fresh piece.

Prawn and Live worm are a bit exotic for me to use all the time - but if I have had a tough session recently - I will grab a couple of big prawns from the supermarket just in cases they arent smashing the chicken - but the dirty old chook usually gets me what I need quick enough

As others have noted mullet is honest  'simple' fishing.
They respond particularly well to burley. Nothing fancy required, a simple bread/pellet base is fine with a bit of tuna oil...minced fish bits ect. The challenge is the consistent distribution of said burley to bring and hold them in which really depends on the scenario. Im a big fan of a onion bag jammed full of all old saved bits an pieces.
I have fond memories of an April mullet session over near Pt Turton, where i waded out on the incoming tide and dropped my onion bag jammed full of goodies. 1 end tied to a brick the other end a ball float and a large glow stick. Hight tide was an hour after sunset. The mullet came in and were a fish-a-cast. Then a heap of smooth rays came in and it was all over...crazy as they would take anything and were almost fighting to get to the burly bag.
Rig wise : basic double patternoster with #8-10 hooks and a burley spring sinker (depending on your 'burly' scenario/method). I do like mrfish's suggestion:
That would work well in the surf.
Bait wise i like to use small pieces of red meat!! They hold on the hook really well unlike the 'old school' mince & semolina mullet mixes. I usually use heart (deer, saved from another pastime ). Lamb heart would be fine. Have also had good success years ago on rabbit roadkill . Kangaroo is great and a mate swears by fillet steak

West Lakes method....Fill up a berly spring with mince/pilchard and semolina mix till tacky, place small pieces of same molded on hooks, cast out and let sink, rip it up and let sink, repeat 4 times and retrieve then repeat process....usually mullet will bite on the sink as they feed on the released burley.
                        cheers b
