I guess I should never of complained about my mate's business that was being badly affected by dewnr's marine park proposal ?Or my work mate who's son has cerebral palsy, has a specially rigged chair to go fishing off port moorowie with but was facing a massive sanctuary zone closure because Dewnr forgot that town existed?Plus many more reasons I lobbied my but off on behalf of others. If we all just let the gumbiment force their own agenda for political vote grabbing or any other reason without complaint where would we be?TB

Del, I picked the rod up from Steve on Grange Road. I also had a 9 foot 2 piece glass spin stick and a 5120 made up as an overhead with the rope grips. All great rods. The low mount you grabbed can pitch a 4 oz sinker and a salmon fillet no problems. It's not built on an extended 4120 as its too tippy, can't remember what blank he used. Either way, it will cope with most Mullies and mid sized brown coats.

as with many things... its cheaper to buy it over seas than on our own shores...Even Coopers Pale ale.. brewed 7km down the road.. is cheaper to buy 16,000km away...

Heading slightly off subject, I recently shelled out 5 bucks and scored enough redgum sawdust and wood chips from a local cabinet maker to last me for years. I blend this with off the shelf hickory or whatever else you get in the small woodchip packets from camping and outdoors shops. Most furniture makers would be happy to let you have some if you offer to pay and take your own bags. Should save you heaps in the long run.

If you can get the kegs the you can have both by joining the two kegs together with a short length of downpipe(around 50cms)one above the other, the one with the flame is your hot smoker then the second one is your cold smoker, have a look on the net and you'll get the idea its easy as. cheers brenton

ive just got a metho burning hot smoker.. for less than a hundred bucks.. was a good way to get it... real time experimentation with how much heat and what saw dust to use is the trick..

I have a super stik hot shot rod made by SA Fishing Tackle agencies. it has hand made by Steve Morris written on it. These may be the best port of call to find out details for rod, 255 Grange Road, Findon. Mine was a lucky pick up in cashies for nine bucks, bargain.

i use rock crabs for bait when targetting blue groper from the rocks. i find a few legs are enough of a bait for these fellas. but for mullys etc.. id probably say half a crab split down the middle. hook out the side of a leg. use rubber bands to secure the bait to the hook. would be difficult to not smash the crab too much when casting.for groper im fishing close to where i stand and just tossing the baits out unweighted.. different story surf casting..

G"day Del I could be wrong but from memory the Super sticks were a range bought out by the Sport Fishing Scenes resident rod builders of yesteryear Dave Yates and Steve Morris ?Based on Snyderglas 4120 and 5120 blanks , they were either extended from the butt or the tip cant remember, or even may have had an inch or 2 off the tip then had a couple of foot added to the butt.Designed for surf fishing with power and lightness in mind, good score mate, highly regarded rods.

Blue groper are from the same family as these wrasse, they also do the same thing as piratepom described with the male being electric blue and the females brown, take the male away and a female takes his place. nature is amazing

Despite their colour-blindness, they still (as you said) rely heavily on their vision indeed have excellent eye-sight.The only reason we see "colours" is because that's what our eyes translate reflected lights at different wavelengths into. Squid will still be able to distinguish between colours, because differences in wavelengths will result in (at the very least) variations in the contrast of (e.g.) pray. If a red jig consistently works better than a blue one, then I'd put it down to refraction, pure and simple. It is, however, exceedingly hard to draw that comparison without rigging up two jigs on a simultaneous (same leader height) pater noster and -consistently- catching more squid on a paticular jig.If you have a favorite jig and you catch more on it than on others, then I suspect it's because you a) are best at using that particular jag (balance, weight, line leading), it's more attractive in black and white (or whatever "colour" combination squid see in) c) there's differences in the way the jig behaves underwater or d) a combination of all of those factors I have a like 8 (albeit pretty cheap) different squid jigs and when I decide to go squidding, I'll simply cycle through them until I catch one and keep using that jig. If it stops catching, I'll start cycling again ------ Not that I have too much experience with the old headfooters

Noting the nuclear chicken (2nd from left) performed the best (i.e. caught the most fish overall). However all the KGW's were caught on the chartreuse grub (far right in the photo). And the salmon were all on fly in a few feet of water, mostly around dusk, stripping very fast. Salmon trout like the fly moving.

few pics taken while out with calypso, all these photos taken while on board calypso with either my own gear or gear supplied to our crew members. just a word to the wise... TAKE SEA SICK TABLETS even if your a local and a fisherman for all your life.. dont let 12hrs on the ocean and 500$ get wasted by a bit of stubborn pride and the " i never get sea sick" attitude.. costs only a few $$$ think of it as an investment on your 500 spent to get on board!ive seen so many people curled up in the festal position all day long burleying up the fishes.. that made the " i never get sick, i dont need tablets" call..

MAtt, Hornes make a good wader... goes with out saying you want water tight and chest high.. but your boot and seems are the weak points. check them out. also check out the seams up the leg. nothing worse than wet..... gentleman bits .. from a leaky seam. in water you will feel the wader leg and boot compressed onto your body by the water pressure. so any small leak will make a huge difference.

half a tommy.. depending on size of the Tommy. i prefer 4/0s as a good all rounder.. 6/0 circles are pretty good too.. will also depend on the fish.. with pannies.. a 2x 2/0 snelled rig is pretty effective..
