iron chef reacted to Soobz in West Beach Boat Ramp Upgrade
What is really needed is just 1 independent that genuinely supports rec fishing. There's a reasonable chance independents will hold the balance.
Regardless, most of us agree the 2 majors are self serving lying pond scum, but unless you have personally contacted them about your rec fishing concerns then you're just rubber stamping what they do. Particularly at election time.

Not only do commercials make more noise, they provide funds to the political parties......& are in cahoots with the whole corrupt system which includes PIRSA. Money talks, decisions made in stealth without any transparency and you just get told - these are the new rules....All just BS & totally wrong.

iron chef got a reaction from Rod in Where to live
I have lived in coastal country SA for heaps of years from Thevenard to Port Vic. and many places in between.
From my experience and people that I have met , The golden rule in respect to country towns is
If Your Missus Likes It You Will Like It.
Pick a town you like, stay in a rental for a couple of weeks during the winter when there is not much movement and take it from there.
Good Luck with your move.

iron chef got a reaction from brutus in Peeling skin handling fish?
I have a mate who is a Pro Fisher and suffers the same condition as you describe. He has been putting up with it for years and tells that it gets quite pain full. He has had heaps of tests and they have shown that he suffers an allergic reaction to a particular bait.
What he had to do to work out what was causing the reaction was to see what had changed as he always used this particular bait. Hand cleaners (as has been mentioned) medications etc all need to be evaluated. He even had to get rid of his bait board.
There is a product that you put in a hand basin and smells like biteumen that you get from a chemist, possibly need prescription.Works well in some cases.
There is a very good Dermatoligist , Specialist called Ivan Simmons that should be able to assist, however in my mates case you have to make a choice listen to the expert or make a living.

Hi All. If any one is interested there are some awsome news paper clippings and photos of Great White Pointer Fishing with Alf Dean during the 1950,s at Ceduna and Streaky Bay.
The site is Ceduna Old Photos which is on Face book and is put together by some local ladies as a history of the Ceduna area.
There are also additional fishing photos in the archives. Cheers.

iron chef reacted to Kelvin in Darwin
My brothers have done a half day barra and crab tour in Darwin with the emphasis on the crabbing and only throwing a few small lures for baby barra around Darwin.
Few landbased spots for Barra if you have access to transport. My Bro caught quite a few legal barra landbased throwing lures or livebaiting mullet in the Darwin area.
Most barra charters are full day and travel a fair away from Darwin.
Also worth landbased fishing from stokes hill wharf, chasing some big diamod scale mullet from behind the deck chair cinema or chasing some milkfish from the rocks near doctors gully

iron chef got a reaction from Tinker in Overfishing in SAI
hi Raff111 Interesting topic this over fishing. Not really sure what it means but i will add some input.
My extended family first started fishing in SA in 1925 professionally.
IN the Late 1960,s early 1970.s there were 14 family members fishing for a living in a small country town.(West Coast). At that time there were 3 fish factories and approximately 70 plus professional fisherman targeting whiting in the town . No one became rich from fishing but most made a living.
Over time my family members slowly diminished fishing. Some due to old age, health reasons , other employment , the area being remote...etc. This also happened to the the other fishermen.
Today June 2016 there is one processor and about 10 professional fishermen.
During that period no one had GPS units and relied on line of sight to get to their particular fishing grounds.
IMO and that of my fore fathers, fishing happens in cycles. Not every year is a good year. as far as fish catch is concerned. Not all months of the year will give you good catch,s of fish.
Do we do a survey on the poor fish catch months, November, December , January and early Febuary, the months were the Southerly wind is a factor and put the catch rate down to over fishing?. The family have diaries that show that nothing has changed in respect to the mentioned months that go back to the 1930,s. Is this not he time of year, the holiday months when most people who have a boat go fishing. Is their catch rate subject to seasonal factors or over fishing?
An old saying is a good year on the land equates to a good year on the sea.

iron chef got a reaction from doobie in Mojiko deluxe smoker any good ?
I had one given to me as a present. They work fine. After one attemp with the burners supplied i threw them a way and got myself a little camping burner from a camping shop. Worked well with a lot more control of the flame.
The same type of burner used to be supplied with the galvanised Jarvis Walker smokers. They are about 50mm diameter

iron chef got a reaction from Tinker in Easy ramp to launch for beginner
Garden Island is a very easy ramp to use. You don't get the build up of " traffic ' that happens at other ramps
Took my boat there the first time I put it in the water years ago.
When you are cruising around in the water, pay attention to the signs that give the speed limits.
