alexczarn got a reaction from southie THE BANGA in What Soft Plastics/ Hardbody lures do you use/purchase?
99% of my plastics are ZMan or Squidgy Biotough as I have what you might term "confidence lures" in both ranges.

Metals I'm not fussed with whatever brand; hardbodies I mainly sway towards Rapala . This is all todo with th estyle of fishing I do as I am a lot more likely to throw plastics over hardbodies for bream/flatties and the like whereas where canal fishing/breakwalls I am mainly throwing Rapala baits.

I've never used glue, or hooked over the eyelet or anything like that; maybe I'm just used to realigning my plastic that it's a force of habit.

Over the course of the last 2 weeks (School Holidays) we have caught 48 Carp from the Goolwa Area. All carp were caught during 4, 2 to 3 hour sessions.Gear Used included: A Shimano Catana/Sienna 2-4kg combo, Shimano Siedo with 2-4kg Shimano RTS ($30 Kmart), Abu Sonic Stix 2-4kg with cheapest Shimano Rear Drag reel and an Abu Muscle tip 3-6kg with an Abu cardinal Reel.Lines used were all either 8 or 10 Pound Mono. Biggest carp landed went 73cm and 6kg with another 4 weighing in at 4kg-5kg. We had one cracker session in which we pulled 20 carp in 2 hours. We went to check out a little jetty some 50 meters away and by the time the two of us had got back my line was tight and his rod was going off. My fish was decent (3kg ish) and on a very sticky drag it took almost 5 minutes. On the other hand the 3-6kg knocked over a little 30cm carp in no time. Luckily for my other rod it did because the moment it hit the bank my other rod went off, so I let him take it and land another 2kg carp.A good holidays fishing.

Rotare, thanks heaps for the offer mate, much appreciated. My wonderful wife has just presented me with a $100 voucher for BCF so this will def get me back out fishing again. I'll try asking the guys at Anglers choice see if anythings been handed in there. To ease the pain my mate took me out on his boat on Tuesday to the barges and i landed my first ever snapper which went 55cms so i was pretty stoked with that!!!

If anyone has evidence (photo), I would like to see it! But still, I think Kingies can get into West Lakes. A couple of months ago at the Trimmer Parade end, I saw massive schools of 50cm+ salmon swimming out and in of the gates and some monster whiting. So many different species there.Saw a dark shape on the sandy bottom! :woohoo: It was moving, so it was definately a creature! Wasn't that big though. It was probably a small ray of some sort.Cheers Alex.

I use to fish it regularly back in the late 80's early 90's and yes it did have nice bream, mullet and salmon.I never got huge numbers but they were always XL size fish and can remember having to sprint along the creek bank to keep up with 2kg salmon on more than one occasion. As for the trout, well lets say its the only place Ive ever fished and caught trout where I could still see the sea. Never got big ones but plenty of small fish 15-20cm and only rainbows. There was a barrier of rocks where it was salt one side and fresh the other. You would get trout from pretty well anywhere from there up to where it started to climb into the hills where the going got tough and the pools smaller. As I said this was 20 years ago so all may have changed now but I guess its always worth a look. I found early morning to be best. Also after the winter rains and when it had settled was best as this meant the creek was open to the sea otherwise it tends to become landlocked in the summer.Hope this gives you a few ideascheers snapps

Drove past the water yesterday whilst at work and thought golly, looks good so as soon as i got home hooked the boat up, sorted the rods and the missus and away we went. Launched and went maybe 1km from the Whyalla ramp straight out. Set up three drifts over promising looking bottom and ended up with 6 squid. Then decided to drop the anchor to try for Tommies as i had heard there were some around. Threw out a bottle of tuna oil and set a burley bucket as well. We could see fish jumping in the slick for about 50m behind the boat. Sent out the floats and we ended up with 22 lovely tommies and 2 garfish. As we were packing up we dropped a jag in the water and managed another squid. was a pretty good session, as the last minute unplanned ones often seem to be. Everything we caught has ended up in the freezer ready to use as bait in the Snapper comp. Another couple of sessions like this and i'm set i reckon. All I need then is a good Snapper drop then lol Sorry about the quality of the photo, we got back just after dark and the outside light is pretty poor

Was flyfishing lower eyre peninsula the other week, put the burley out, got the usual bait fish around. Couldnt resist but catch a few. Was tommies and gar out a bit further. Kept a few for livebait. All of a sudden i see a fin breach the surface in the distance. Thought nothing of it just figured it was a few dolphins. NEK MINIT theres a sunfish under the jetty.

I usually cocktail whiting baits with circles. Double pin the Cockle and then and single pin on the tip of the circle a squid strip. That way they get the cockle smell and taste but because of the toughness of the squid thye 'usually' can't get it off and if they do. They have a reason to come back again.Cheers TT
