Double Trouble reacted to Ranger in Cockles???
I use baskets, others use onion bags, but you will need something to put the cockles into while doing runs back and forth to your esky.Put enough saltwater into the esky to cover the cockles, and keep them cool.I no longer bother since the new limits were introduced. Like yourself, I live out the northern side of town, and it's a bl**dy long drive from where we are.....we'd eat that many and still have none for bait.My suggestion, if'n you're gonna do it, borrow all the neighbours kids for the day, to gain extra collecting hands (300p/p).Dont forget, 35mm minimum size! And if you're splashing around in the shallows there........that water gets bl**dy cold, hence the wetsuits! Another tip, always face towards the waves, coz turn your back and you're gonna get swamped. If you purge them properly first, they aint just bait either. Chopped fresh garlic, chopped fresh chili, a coupla spoons of chili/garlic sauce, put the lid on until they open, discard any which dont open:

Hi Guys, I read this post and thought i'd let you know from the urchins mouth so to speak.I run Sea urchins Australia, we do deliver to Adelaide, in fact we ship ther eevery second week. I have a guy there who orders bulk and could possibly order stock in for you if you are interested. If you can jump on my website www.sea-urchins.com.au I can the place you in contact with him so as you can get in on the next order. You will have to prob pick up from him but that should be fine.By the way we deliver all over Australia, we can supply minimum orders of 10 punnets and ship them to your local airport for pickup or organise a courier to deliver to your door.Hope this helps.DaveSea Urchins Australia0409119505

Out for a day’s fishing on the Hampshire Avon with my son Jared (age 17). Jared is looking for that illusive 20lber and makes contact with a 17lb Avon Pike. The monster pike was taken whilst fishing a dead bait in a large back eddy near Ashley Bends. Jared removes the single circle hook and after weighing his new PB safely returns the fish to the pool.http://youtu.be/iXnfbOspzZA

Ok - Ill tell you this little fishing story and let you decide:Bob's kitchen - N.E. about 5 knots - hot / overcast / offshore - not much swell - clearish water.....Spotted a great hole accompanied to a break in the second sandbar so I lobbed a fresh s/t right on the edge of the sandbar and waited - and waited....20 or so minutes then started walking away fom my rod....I was about 20 feet away from it (walking away) when my rod tip just moved a bit and then snapped back to nothing again....i stopped and watched - nothing - started walking away again and again - just a small movement (a pull foreward) then it let go again....I pulled my line in and the s/t was chewed to bits - and almost gone.....I replaced it and threw it in the same spot again.....Waited ---- waited ------then walked away ------same thing! straight away! soon as I walked away - the rod tip just moved.....What the!!!!!Pulled my line in again - and this time the s/t was chewed but it had the teeth marks of a good sized jewy so it was on......The next cast i did the same thing - waited for a little while (10 mins) but this time when I walked away I loosened my drag so when i walked away I took the line with me - rod in the rod holder but as I walked off I had the line coming off the reel and coming with me keeping the line tight - same same - 20 odd feet away the tip started flicking - I yanked the line and all hell broke loose! -------- so the point is - this fish was watching me!!! They arent that dumb.....That changed the way I fished up there - from that moment on I went stealth - and caught a helluva lot more fish.....I cut out all the un natural aspects of my presence there eg. noise / smell / (i washed my hands in the sand and salt before baiting up) fresh bait / (fresh dead) livies dont seem to work - and kept away from my rod and sat closer up near the sandhill....And caught more fish!!Sorry about the quality of the photo but this was a long time ago and it was the days before digital - this is the fish and you can see the conditions - still this fish was watching me - it was aware of my presence there......Even though its a long way from nowhere to catch fish you still have to follow the basics of jewie fishing....(if you want to catch fish)....

A mate of mine pointed this article out to me this morning.http://www.seabreeze.com.au/News/Fishing/VIC-Two-huge-illegal-snapper-hauls-uncovered_6015592.aspxMy jaw is still on the table. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!Well done on the fisheries who caught these scum bags..My proposal for the seized boats / cars.Rip the engine/s and sounder/GPS off and sell them off. Then, tow the boat and cars in the area they fished and sink them.Give the snapper (that are remaining) a new home.I am still dumb founded that the VIC size limit for snapper is only 28cm. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUSAnd no wonder they don’t get the regular BIG REDS, COS THEY DONT HAVE A CHANCE TO GROW!!!!!!!GRRRRRRant over...

Well looks like im gonna have to buy my wife a freezer and my kids one each too...and all live in seperate houses if I want to do our normal YEARLY trip.I do a whiting trip every year to Davenport / Ceduna for 10 days OK we bag out every day We fillet our days catch and date every bag before freezing Fisheries guys have inspected our catches on two occasions all good with them ... Do the right thing and they do right by you.The only thing I have ever been chatted about and rightly so I was scaling all our catch and another boats as they went back to camp to prepare lunch ...I had two boat limits on board I invited fisheries into our camp (which was 50m away and in clear view) to inspect everything we had caught for the past 4 days .... and all was good.I admit in that particular Week we take our full limit But...that lasts our families about8 Months with a feed per week ...Looks like Ceduna will now miss out on my Tourist Dollars cos I may as well just buy a feed very weekand let the supermarkets Freeze it for me Bloody Gale Gaga I wonder if she has had the Pivelege of catching a fish ...preparing it forHer family and seen the enjoyment and gratitude on thier faces for doing so.Another Blow for the reccy

Done a tuna trip the other month, we caught all the fish on rapala xraps, both the 15ft and 20ft worked, used the pillie and mackeral types.Tried several different skirts over the weekend but they didnt want to play with the skirts.A few weeks later and they were hitting the skirts, just a bit of trial and error and depends how active the fish are.Im still new in the tuna fishing front only done a few trips and have succeeded both trips.

Thanks for the interest guys, it is an odd story but worth the reading.Myself and two other guys were driving around to Denial Bay jetty from Ceduna to try a spot of fishing. On the way there we passed a small beach where a local had told us is a good calm spot to swim. We decided to pop in for a quick look. As we were parked on the sand my mate spotted a set of fins swimming around chasing schools of bait. At this stage we think it is a shark but I bailed out of the car to grab a rod with my mates asking "are you going to try and catch it" "hell yes" was the reply. As we were going to fish of a jetty we had a lot of small rods with us and the only surf rod in the car was a Shimano collapsing rod, but I did have a Daiwa emcast with 20 pound braid to put on it. So I set the rig up, tied a soft plastic on and started the chase.I could not get a cast out far enough to entice it and every time I tried to walk out towards it it just moved further out of range. This went on for some time until it got further up the beach where a local fellow had been swimming with his kid and dog. He spotted the fins as well and ran to this car to grab his rod because he had seen the fish earlier in the afternoon. He had a bait rigged up and got a cast in front of the fish only to have his line snap the second he hooked up. He said it was old line but I had no hope that my 20pound leader would fare much better. Not that it mattered because the fish had been spooked and went out to deeper water and we lost sight of it. As we walked back to the car I was kicking myself for not tying a metal lurer on because it would have got better distance in the cast. Being a person not to give in straight away I did tie a 40g metal on "just in case" before packing the rig down. We decided to drive up the beach to another exit and was scanning the water at the same time. Well it happened, there it was further up the beach but closer to the shore. Well out I bailed and was into it. On about the 3rd cast it was "FISH ON". I had a good hook up but was concerned with the line so took it nice and easy. Not that he helped doing figure 8s and causing me to wined the hell out of the emcast to keep the line tight. As he cruised along the beach my 2 mates said they would get outside him to spook it towards the shore better. (with knives in hand)they did just that. Well this turned out to be a good move as they were able to identify it as a tuna and not a shark as first thought. Well the call was "grab it by the tail and drag it in then" "no the fins aren't sharp" High fives and slaps on the back all round as it was landed. The locals all called us liars until they saw the video footage with Thevenard in the back ground. That shut them up and gave us braggin rights for quite some time. Thanks for reading the story and sorry it is a bit long winded but it is hard to convey a huge smile in words. I think that stuff is more for boosting the confidence of the fisherman rather than helping catch more may be worth trying on unscented plastics to mask that petrochemical smell? If your going to go to the trouble of dipping lures in tuna oil or rubbing on stink gel you may as well be bait fishing imo
