    Teaser Paragraph:

The Main wharf was very consistent for small to large tommies, salmon trout, chow, slimies and the occasional snapper. Proper bay had some catches of whiting up to 40 cm plus. Whiting were also found along the north shore, Taylors and Thistle Island. Yellowfin whiting schools have been sighted along the foreshore in small schools. Squid have slowed down but enough can be caught for a feed.

Blue Swimmer Crabs are still being caught and are mostly good size.

  4. Port Lincoln fishing report 27/02/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

Tuna were consistent at Low Rocks, Cabbage Patch and South Neptune Island with 10 to 12kg the average size but we heard of one weighing 37kg landed. Blue Swimmer Crabs continue to run, with most anglers returning results of excellent sized crabs. The main wharf has Tommies, Slimy Mackerel, Chow, and some Salmon Trout biting on both lures and baits during most times of the day and into the night. The town jetty is returning catches of smaller squid and Tommies. Yellowfin Whiting and the odd Flathead are being reported by anglers fishing the shoreline around Port Lincoln.

  5. Port Lincoln fishing report 19/02/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

Offshore has seen the run of Bluefin Tuna continue. Most of the usual spots including South Neptune, the Cabbage Patch, Low Rocks, etc are all holding Tuna. Fish averaging 10 to 15Kgs and one weighing 43kg have been caught on a variety of lures, with Redhead minnows and small skirted lures with Purple in them being the most effective. Shimano Flatfall jigs continue to fool a variety of fish including Snapper, Nannygai and Sampson Fish. South Neptune and Wedge Island have also seen some Kingfish caught up to about 10Kg.

In the local bays, King George Whiting continue to be elusive, but are there for those willing to put in the time and effort. Blue Swimmer Crabs are in good numbers. Make sure you have a crab measure before heading out. Crab measures are available from the PIRSA office at 5 Adelaide Place Monday to Friday.

The local Jetties and Wharf are holding good numbers of Squid, Tommies, Salmon Trout and the odd Whiting and there are a few Slimy Mackerel around the Wharf.

There have been quite a few varieties of fish caught in the Marina. Anything from Tommies to small Kingfish have been hooked, but a few lures have been lost in amongst the pylons, so be prepared to lose some tackle if you fish near the structure.

  6. Port Lincoln fishing report 12/02/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

The main wharf has had good catch rates of slimy mackerel, chow, smaller salmon trout, and Tommy roughs. For best results anglers were using bait, however most of these species will attack most types of smaller lures.

In deeper waters; good catches of decent sized nannagai are being caught from many locations offshore, along with the odd snapper and blue morwong.

The town jetty and throughout Boston and Proper Bay is returning reasonable results for Blue Swimmer Crabs from anglers dropping nets.

  7. Port Lincoln fishing report 06/02/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

Tuna have been seen and caught at a number of spots including Low Rocks, Cabbage Patch, Neptune’s, behind Hopkins and Thistle Island and south east of Dangerous Reef. Despite terrible weather over the past week local jetty’s are still producing good catch rates of squid and tommies. Garfish can be caught with the tommies, however can be found deeper than usual with wind chopping up the surface. Smaller Yellowfin whiting are being sighted along the foreshore. A few whiting were reported from Proper Bay along with tommies, gar and squid. The main wharf has had tommies, salmon trout, slimy Macks and the odd Kingy.

  8. Port Lincoln fishing report 29/01/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

When the weather permits, Garfish are being caught in local bays and around the boat ramps. Gar have been a bit finicky at times with many anglers reporting great numbers of fish, however were not biting at all times. Some anglers believe that they used too much burley giving the fish a feed rather than just attracting them.

Proper bay has seen some big Blue Swimmer Crabs, some up to 80cm across the claws. King George Whiting have been hard to find, but of a good size. Silver Trevally up to 40cm have also been reported and are great fun on Whiting gear.

  9. Port Lincoln fishing report 23/01/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

The main wharf has had plenty of Tommies and Salmon Trout, biting on baits and lures especially if burley was being used. Just remember to be aware of the difference between Australian Herring (Tommy Rough) and Australian Salmon, as many salmon are having to be measured. The odd smaller Yellowtail Kingfish are also being spotted from the wharf, with some anglers having success hooking them using fresh baits. Slimy Mackerel and Chow are also being reported in the area. Tuna sizes seem to vary considerably with some around Low Rocks measuring between 2 and 28kg. Tuna were also found behind Hopkins, Thistle, Williams and Neptune Islands and the Cabbage Patch. Small skirted lures are working well for the smaller tuna and colour doesn’t seem to matter on most days. Nannygai and Snapper are also being caught by jigging and bottom bouncing baits.

  10. Port Lincoln fishing report 15/01/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

Rugger snapper are being caught in local bays and surrounding areas, with most fish being under 5 kilo.

Boaties chasing King George Whiting are reporting it is very ‘hit and miss’.

Garfish are being caught in local bays if the weather permits, and if anglers use burley to attract them into the area. Squid are in less numbers but still reliable throughout the bays and off the jetties. The main wharf had salmon trout, slimy macks, tommies and small schools of kingies have shown up here, the marina, Proper Bay and plenty of other spots between Lincoln and Tumby Bay. Tuna fishing has been good with fish ranging from a couple of kilos up to 20 kg. Best reports were from Low Rocks, the Cabbage Patch, south of Thistle and Williams Islands and even some close to Memory Cove.

  11. Port Lincoln fishing report 08/01/2015

    Teaser Paragraph:

Tuna – Low Rocks, Cabbage Patch, Thistle, Williams Island, just to name a few of the spots where they have been reported. Deep diving lures such as the Rapala XRAP and smaller skirts trolled a long way behind the boat seem to be the most effective methods so far. Colour does not seem to be a factor so far, but keep the lures on the smaller size, as the Tuna are mostly small.

Local jetties have been good for squid all day round and into the evening. Tommies and Gar are being caught if burley is presented. Best results tend to be early in the morning or mid to late afternoon. Snook have been a little on the quieter side with a few being caught when smaller prey is in the area.

Don’t go too hard on the burley as unwanted by-catch such as Puffer fish, small Leatherjackets, and Trumpeters are also attracted and quiet often take your bait rather than your target species. Some smaller Stingrays have been loitering around local jettys and bays, so just be wary if you are not targeting them. They are bottom feeders and can take Whiting and general purpose rigs or baits.

  12. Port Lincoln fishing report 18/12/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Local bays are seeing good numbers of Blue Swimmer Crabs, with best results being returned during night sessions. Try Salmon, Tommies and Freeze Dried Squid are proving effective baits for the Crabs.

Southern Bluefin Tuna are caught being out wide. Pick your days carefully with this windy weather though.

Local jettys are showing up a few nice sized Garfish in shallow waters and some excellent size Squid, Silver Trevally are proving great tasty sport for many anglers fishing local bays whether targeting them or not.

Anglers are finding that if they are using burley for a certain species, they will be accompanied by Trevally. These fish are excellent fun on light gear.

  13. Port Lincoln fishing report 12/12/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Try the main wharf for the odd King George Whiting, and good numbers of Squid early in the morning or on the high tide. Fisheries Beach has been productive with some Silver Trevally, and Salmon Trout. Local jetties have been good for Squid, Tommies, and Garfish in amongst the trumpeter’s during the high afternoon tide. Murrays point has plenty of Tommies. Salmon schools are still continuing to provide anglers some great fun throughout Boston bay and surrounding bays, feeding on Anchovies. The Salmon are not only restricted to boaties, with plenty of land based anglers being successful casting lures throughout the working schools.

Birds working the area are a giveaway that the salmon are in the area. Blue Swimmer Crabs are also picking up in numbers, size and weight.

  15. Port Lincoln fishing report 28/11/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Sleaford to Wanna has seen Salmon up to 4kg. Most have been around the 2kg mark when the swell allows you to fish.

Local Jettys have seen some big Tommies & Garfish through the day and into the night. Blue Swimmer Crabs have been good, but there are a lot of small ones about, so make sure you check your catch before putting it in the bag. There have been a few boats heading out wide targeting an early run of small Bluefin Tuna. These fish fish are around the 8Kg mark and have been caught on all sorts of lures, jigs and large Soft Plastics.

    Teaser Paragraph:

Big Garfish and Tommies from the Jettys, along with some squid during the day and into the night.

Lots of undersized Blue Swimmer Crabs with a few legal ones are being caught in Boston and Proper Bays.

Try the main wharf for King George Whiting, Silver Trevally, salmon trout and Blue Swimmer Crabs.

There are still plenty of Salmon trout and Tommies working the baitfish schools in the afternoons, just look for the birds working close to shore.

  17. Port Lincoln fishing report 14/11/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

The North Shields jetty has had schools of legal silver trevally. Try the main wharf for bigger squid, snook, whiting, salmon up to 1kg, and big tommies. Both Boston bay and Proper bay had reports of blue swimmer crabs, by both land based and boat anglers. Make sure to always check the size as a lot of undersize crabs are being landed in pots. Further along the coast reports have come in from anglers fishing Point Drummond up to convention beach with salmon being around the 2-3kg mark as well as some big tommies from the surf. A few whiting were found at Thistle and Taylors Island. Proper Bay, Spalding Cove and the North Shore were best for whiting at dawn or dusk. Late afternoon is still good for salmon and tommies along the North Shore. Small squid are still reliable of the jetties and in the bays.

  18. Port Lincoln fishing report 06/11/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Snook and Squid are continuing to be on the chew with many anglers fishing both from the shore and in boats reporting good catches. Best results have been found to be late afternoon and into the evening.

Salmon up to 1kg and big fat Tommies are hanging around Boston, Proper and Louth Bay chasing assorted baitfish schools of blue bait, pilchards, and anchovies. Both land based anglers fishing and boaties are having success using similar size lures to what these fish are feeding on. Metal slugs like the Spanyid Raider are proving to be very effective, with afternoons seeming to be the best time. Look for the birds working close to shore to find the fish.

Lots of undersize King George Whiting are being caught from within Proper Bay. Please make sure you check the size of your fish before keeping them.

A whisper of a few Blue Crabs around Boston and proper Bay are also being reported by boaties.

  19. Port Lincoln fishing report 30/10/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Squid continue to be a good option for the land based fisho. For the boaties, there have been plenty of options including Salmon to 2Kg, Snook, Trevally, Tommies and bigger squid. Most people that have caught King George Whiting have reported that they need to move around a bit as most drops seem to produce 1 or 2 fish only. Mussel berley has proven to bring the fish on the bite.

Along the surf beaches, schools of Salmon have been seen between Sleaford and Wanna. Some of the schools have been huge, and if you are lucky enough to encounter them within casting range, almost any type of lure is successful.

Around these schools of Salmon, there are plenty of sharks, mostly Bronze Whalers, so be careful, but they are a good option for heavier gear with a couple around 7 foot caught and released.

There have also been a few reports of Blue Swimmer Crabs around, but keep it quiet……….

  20. Port Lincoln fishing report 23/10/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Some good sized squid and King George Whiting are being caught in the local bays by boaties. Some visitors managed whiting around 35cm in front of the P.L Tourist Park. The Jetties and rocks are still a good bet to get a good feed of squid. Snook and Garfish have been reported all over when the wind has died off.

The passage and surrounding areas have been OK for Nannygai, Morwong and a few Snapper have started to appear. Sleaford to Wanna has seen some good schools of Salmon to 4Kg. Especially the Wanna end.

Metal lures and Bigger Soft Plastics have been effective. Billy Lights Point had salmon and squid. Schools of frogmouth pilchards have been in close to shore anywhere from the town foreshore, North Shields and Louth Bay with mostly tommies and a few salmon chasing them.

Whiting reports came from Thistle Island, Spalding Cove, Proper Bay, Bolingbroke and Louth Bay. Small Squid were still in good numbers throughout the bays and off the jetties. 22. Port Lincoln fishing report 09/10/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Summer whiting have started to move into the bays with reports of fish in Spalding Cove, Proper Bay and the North Shore/Sandhill’s area. Schools of salmon were not as prevalent over the long weekend but some nice fish came from Millers and the Salmon Hole. Bronze whaler sharks were spotted by anglers fishing the south coast between Sleaford and Wanna, and some big trevally were caught as well which is unusual.

The north shore has had schools of pilchards during the afternoons with large amounts of birds working them, with tommies, salmon trout and trevally being the predominate species caught from these patches of fish. Lures returned the best results if the fish were close enough within casting range from shore.

Boaties fishing deeper water around Thistle Island had success on king george whiting, whilst anglers fishing in closer waters around proper bay also found a good feed of whiting.

  23. Port Lincoln fishing report 03/10/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Schools of Salmon of varying sizes have been found along the Sleaford to Wanna beaches. Patience must be exercised at times as you wait for the schools to come in close enough to cast to. Metal lures, poppers and big soft plastics have been effective when you can reach the schools. King George Whiting were around Thistle Island, Taylors and the Lumps.

  24. Port Lincoln fishing report 25/09/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

The town jetty and wharf is continuing to produce smaller squid at all times of the day. Squid were also around Louth Bay, North Shields and Spalding Cove. Tommies and salmon trout are also being caught on baits and lures, however better catch results occur when burley is being used. The Sleaford to Wanna stretch of coast had numerous schools of 1 to 4kg salmon. Finding them within casting range can be tricky but when the sharks, seals or dolphins push them in close some brilliant lure fishing can be the result. We haven’t had any reports of whiting in the bays but Spalding Cove on dusk would be worth a try. Whiting have been reported between Carcass Rock and Taylors Landing, the Lumps and Thistle Island. The Passage had some nanny’s and the occasional Samson fish.

  25. Port Lincoln fishing report 18/09/2014

    Teaser Paragraph:

Salmon are being caught by boaties fishing the Proper Bay, as well as some larger fish coming from the Sleaford to Wanna coastline. Halco Outcast lures have accounted for quite a few of these salmon during the week. Smaller squid are being caught from local jetties in good numbers. Yamashita King George Whiting jigs have been working well for larger squid in deeper water. Snook are being seen during the evening; however anglers are having difficulty hooking them.
