I have read elsewhere Carp are good crab bait but I don't have any personal intel on that.
I have a freezer full of KGW heads & frames and Squid heads/guts I need to soak before I need to chase Carp. Also any shitties trumpeters we catch get a quick knifing and into the nets. These all seem to work.

hey good to hear from you again mickyj, dont worry to much over the size reel you are using as long as you happy with it. I have gone down the same path early days of lure fishing & braid line loved the 1000 size shimano's & others. I have upgraded in recent times & purchased a couple of 2500 sized reels somewhat for slightly heavier braids. Their has been a couple of write ups in the fishing mags over the last few months on why 2500 reels are better for light braids but I will stick to me 1000 sizes its a good buzz hearing those small spools spin on a good fish.

Hains Signature for sale on Gumtree, funny ad, worth a read. I bet a lot of boats are sold with the same words being uttered.

    We all love fishing, right?

Apparently I don't like fishing any more - at least that's what I've been told by someone with more authority than me, but here is a ready to go fishing package - just hitch up, drop her in the water and go fishing the day you buy her!

Oh, and I meant drop the boat in the water - not your wife. Dropping wives in the water is apparently not appropriate and/or appreciated. And if you can buy a suitable wife - good luck to you. I've already bought and sold one wife, still paying for the later model and have no desire to find out what it would cost me to sell her (the wife, not the boat).

And the best news is you don't need a big tow vehicle - she can be towed behind a typical family sedan like a Commodore or Falcon! The boat is also the right size for towing behind a family sedan.

You might have guessed I'm really disappointed to be selling my boat, but my wife has decided that the caravan is more important, so this great boat package simply has to go.

She (the boat, not my wife) has seen very little use due to business commitments and my wife's desire to travel in the caravan instead of going out fishing. And let's be honest - if I don't sell the boat to get the caravan SWMBO wants, then I'm not likely to see much use out of my wife either.

A really comfortable and stable boat - the cabin is big enough for two to sleep in and there is heaps of storage space inside the cabin and also on deck. Rock solid fibreglass hull.

Please note that these are all words that should not be applied to your wife - comfortable, stable (as if!), big enough to sleep two, heaps of storage space and rock solid. These descriptions are only about the boat. Please, you have to believe me!

This package is complete and ready to go and includes:

    - UHF (27 MHz) radio

    - all required offshore safety equipment including life jackets, flares, bucket, EPIRB and so on (ask me nicely and I'll even give you a life jacket for the missus)

    - Lowrance LCX-37C colour combination chartplotter and fishfinder (not that you need a chartplotter - apparently wives always know where you are and where you should be)

    - Bimini with clear sides and front

    - rod holder on the bimini

    - bait board (never used, at least not by my wife)

    - bilge pump (electric)

    - 100 litre underfloor fuel tank (which I will make sure is full)

    - Sea Trail galvanised trailer (with new winch)

    - PortaPotti toilet (for the wife's comfort and your peace and quiet)

    - anchor (should not be attached to any person, especially your wife)

She (again, the boat, not the wife) is equipped with a 90HP Evinrude E-Tec outboard, which starts first time, every time. Heaven only knows what life would be like if my wife's mouth was as reliable as this motor.

A 20 litre drum of E-Tec oil (worth over $300) also comes with the boat because we all know how important proper lubrication is and so you won't have to worry about buying lube, I mean oil, any time soon!

As an added bonus we'll even throw in our tow tube which is shaped like a jet ski and you'll also get the tow bridle and tow rope. Capable of carrying three people, this tube is a bundle of fun and gets comments everywhere it goes.

I have found that the tow rope is long enough to effectively mute your wife's screams too!

I did mine with Capt Bouc at his home on Woolnough Rd Semaphore about 5 yrs ago at $90.00, I think it has risen a bit in price now.
Was theory in a group reading through the book with Q & A. Then the exam while he cooked a BBQ lunch. Then self marked the test with the Capt and any wrong answers were doubly explained and corrected. Then BBQ lunch and of to Garden Island for a couple of hours playing in his boat and then given paperwork for motor reg. I don't have his details anymore sorry.

I don't buy bait these days, squid catches are separated into hoods for the wife, tentacles & heads for bait.
Whiting heads & frames are kept for a berley grind up day or snapper bait

If I can get onto slimies, even better for bait

After a day of fishing all thawed out bait goes back in the bait freezer for the berley mix

Every year I end up with about 10 2 ltr buckets of berley

Another handy tip is to only thaw bait out as you use it. Enables you to refreeze it so to speak. Smaller packaging helps with this. Buying or catching in bulk is the go. Just smarter.

Why would you bother to go to any other site rather than the BOM for tides? Every other site gets their tides from the BOM. When you look at sites such as willy weather all you are getting is the BOM data and any finger faults that they may have made. And I have found they make all sorts of errors. There was another tide thread where I posted examples of willy weather mistakes.  From willy weather:

On the day in question I use the Fishing Log program which is based of the BOM site was

    Outer Harbor 9.20 am - 1.64 mtrs

    Pt Noarlunga 9.11 - 1.33

To me this is fairly normal as the tides change by time & height up & down the gulf, also west to east of the state

The only place that seams to get out of sync from time to time is Cape Elizabeth

So, tomorrow I'll be fishing in the morning and watched the news weather for winds etc.

But there are differences between C7 and other links.

    Channel 7 (metro waters)

    High tide

    9.20am / 1.64 m

    Willy Weather (Pt Noarlunga)

    High tide

    9.09am / 1.64 m

    BOM (Pt Noarlunga)

    High tide

    9.00am / 1.4 m

    Tides4fishing (Pt Noarlunga)

    High tide

    9.05am / 1.3 m

ok, clutching at straws a little, as tides/times are not that far out, apart from C7 with a minimum 11 minutes 'out'.

But only c7 and WW have the same tide height.

It's not a big deal from a fishing point of view as what's 5 minutes here or there and .2mt difference in height, but I would have thought that all tides/times would have been obtained from BOM.

    Just weird, that's all.

Moggy23 reacted to Alexsfishin1 in Getting onto the luring side of Bream!
I've been getting quite a few chunky bream lately on both Plastics and Hard bodies!

A couple of weeks ago, I fished with Jacob at West Lakes. We decided to fish early morning without expecting much. We used hard bodies and we were getting follows straight away. It wasnt long before I hooked up to a little bream, followed by a few more!

As the day grew warmer, it was time to head back. We threw lures around while walking back and all of a sudden a nice bream came out and whacked my lure twice before hooking up!! This fish had some go! After a solid fight, it was measured in at 40cm which is my new Personal Best on hard bodies!!!

After a few photos, the fish was released.. (of course!)

Today, my school mates and I planned a snorkelling day with this hot weather. But of course, I had to bring a rod along. The day started with flat conditions and clear water. I had a couple of casts with the Zman 2" Grubz before a few donkey bream followed it right in.   I slowed down my retrieve and the biggest out of them engulfed the plastic!!! I set the hook and it screamed off like a train! After dodging quite a few rocks and almost loosing getting smoked, the fish was tired out and as I was slowly bringing her in, the hook came loose and I watched the fish cruise back down....        It was well over 40cm, possibly even pushing 45cm... But who knows, that's fishing!

After sobbing a little bit, I got back into the action. I could see some monsters holding up along the weed edge but none of them would touch the plastic. It was getting extremely hot and sweaty so we jumped in to cool down. It was a good experience swimming with the bream, I got some underwater footage but unfortunately my mate dropped the camera between some rocks (wasn't his fault, the strap came loose).. Never to be seen again     Which means I won't be making videos for a long time...

After we cooled down, I climbed back to where I spotted the fish. A few casts later, I hooked up to another decent fish! This one was no where near as big as the first one but it was still a very good sized bream. It was just hooked in the top lip but I got it in a comfort lift. As I was getting ready for a photo, the fish kicked and fell through the rocks into the water. I thought it was still hooked but it must've spat it when it kicked... I estimated this fish to be around 37cm, spewing I didn't get pics

Anyways after that, I climbed back towards the same rocks and slipped. My whole rod/reel combo was dunked in the water and my ass landed on a hard ledge.. I had to sit there for a while to recover. But after a few minutes, I got back up and started flicking again. I switched lures to a 2.5" Zman Grub after I got the other lure snagged on a rock. The first couple of casts resulted in another solid hookup! This one felt quite similar to the second fish. It ran me under a couple of rocks but I managed to get it out. This fish measured in at 39cm!!!   Stoked! Few photos and it was back in the water.

The bite slowed down a lot so I decided to venture around to see if I could spot any. For the next couple of hours, I was sight casting them, catching low 30's bream.

It was a beautiful day to be out, although it was hot, it gave us an excuse to go for a swim lol!

Here's just a couple more from earlier trips!

Even got a few nice ones in a cheeky bait session

    Cheers!
    Alex.

    G'day
You can download a free program called gps babel that will convert gps files if necessary.
There's a standard format that can be transferred across all the brands called GPX.  If you get the files in this format you should be able to upload them direct to the lowrance
If not convert them to a lowrance format USR from memory which I think is now up to version USR3 but any that your unit has the software version for should be ok
    Cheers
